Thanks for posting this. I ofen used to see people filming what appeared to be nothing special and thought to myself "what a wally". Now I appreciate so much what they were actually doing, documenting memories of years gone by for many. The Hoppenstopper buses used to be real 'bone rattlers' but were cheaper, who remembers the Elvis lookalike Hoppenstopper bus driver?

I remember them days I used to sit on the benches by Don Millers waiting for my then girlfriend she worked in British Home stores, summer time we used to sit in George square and people watch, it was like a park back then with lots of trees, happy days

this is the luton i miss, my childhood days looks so clean and i dont remember seeing any crackheads or homeless people compared to now, the roads be full of dirt and litter and u hear junkies arguing and shouting

It's a lot worse now. I had to visit today, not out of choice, it was just incredibly sad. There was an air of desperation and sadness around the town and most people resembled the living dead. How did things get so bad in Luton?

Great footage! I’m guessing this was filmed in late 1991, when the Crown Court building was completed. It didn’t look as if it had yet been commissioned, which was April 1992. I had the misfortune to have to go into Luton town centre today. Not a pleasurable experience! While improvements are being made, you can’t polish a turd, only roll it in glitter.

Oh man! It's certainly has changed. I remember the Hoppenstopper. The Lutonian buses. The Luton and District buses. I used to catch the 38 from where I live to the town. Such memories.

I have lived in Luton for 40 years before moving to High Wycombe . I went back just recently to just see how my beloved Town was getting on and could not believe the difference it has turned into a third world country . I thought High Wycombe was a Sh*t hole but but sure do miss my past back in the 70 s living in Luton . Makes me sad to think it has been allowed to get like this WHAT HAS HAPPENED to LUTON ???

Drugs supplied by the Luton based Asian gangs that import it in bulk and then break it down and distribute it. Their many cash businesses are then used to launder money. Deal with the supply and addiction will cease to be a problem.

I lived in Luton in 90s and it was a dirty rundown hellscape. Apparently its worse now. I struggle to believe that is possible. Its in defence, the community in Bury Park was lovely. I can still spot an Afghan hat from 200yards away.
