I love this piece so much. I love how Lutosłwaski orchestrated this. It's crazy to me how someone can envision music that's this complex and make it a reality. One of my favorite parts of this is 17:34-18:13 , I absolutely love the chord at 18:13. And I absolutely love the way that F in the horns at 23:41 crescendo into that huge chord at 23:42 that the whole orchestra played. The high woodwinds played a B flat there and I love the sound it creates with the horns still playing that F in the chord. I absolutely love this orchestration, so beautiful.
LOV AT 18:11 when everything becomes CHAOTIC and FRENZIED like sometimes in real life. Then THE ULTIMATE CLIMAX at 23:54 as the whole orchestra extends the same LOUD note continuously until 24:15. WOW!!!!
Fantastic. I saw Rostropovich play this (under composer's baton) at his monumental 60th birthday concerts in London (~50 concerti, from memory, in ?2 weeks!) This one didn't particularly capture my imagination at the time. But now I've the sheet music on order. Well done, Kian. Very inspiring interpretation (e.g. the head movements/directions ~1:00 - clever!) Learning this will be a tall order, but worth it!
Amazing , even memorable music.I will never forget the opening 4 minutes of solo music ! wow! And that idea of a repeated pitch and then it comes again later in contrast with another.Music of idea ! I luv the trumpet intro later . It all feels like a utterly communicative new language that one must do some labor to reach into. My kind of music.I need to listen to Zimmerman play th epiano concerto again .didnt get it years back.this is wonderful elusive. my kinda stuff !
Apparently Soltani plays the 'London Strad' Cello. Certainly his exquisite musicianship summoned forth the gorgeous tonal qualities of a fabled instrument. Soltani also composes, and the premiere of his own composition (an encore to his performance of the Shostakovich Cello Concerto (#1) with the QSO on 17/9/16) was a real treat. Beautiful, mature work.
I love this piece because of the interesting sounds and colors Lutosłwaski produces from his orchestration. And the ideas he comes up with are very complex and I love the way he arranges them.
I think it's better if you just said you don't understand this type of music. It's incredibly foolish to say that this isn't music. All sound that is organized is music.
