Grand Prix NHK Trophy 2020 was held in Osaka last week, so this week’s video will take a closer look at the Triple Lutz from the top 5 ladies: Kaori Sakamoto, Wakaba Higuchi, Rino Matsuke, Mai Mihara, and Mako Yamashita.
Can’t express in words how happy I am for Wakaba 🥳 She finally landed the 3A in competition. Though it’s underrotated, but what a monumental moment! I personally think for Wakaba, it was more crucial to land the 3A than winning the competition 🤓 The 3A achievement earns her more confidence and it's definitely a head start to land consistent 3A in future.

私が若葉にどれほど満足しているかを言葉で表現することはできません 🥳 彼女はついに競技でトリプルアクセルを上陸させました。回転不足ですが、なんと記念碑的な瞬間でしょう。個人的には若葉にとっては、優勝よりもトリプルアクセルを上陸させることが重要だったと思います 🤓トリプルアクセルの達成は彼女の自信を高め、将来的に一貫したトリプルアクセルを上陸させるための有利なスタートです。

Tomoe Kawataba’s lutz technique is just superior

None of them are truly full-blade technique. To see full-blade watch Khromykh, Grassl, and occasionally Uno who actually take off with the back of the blade touching the ice with the toe pick not even touching (like a real loop). That being said Wakaba and Mako’s lack of pre-rotation is great to see! And of course Tomoe even though she wasn’t top 5 has the best lutz in the business 😍

I agree for me a full blade happens when the picking foot sort of twists, like it almost becomes perpendicular to the skating foot. The examples shown here are more like a lazy foot that stays stuck on the ice. You can see that they start hitting the ice with the toe pick, but instead of vaulting into the air, they rotate a bit on the ice. In some cases their blade do touches the ice. Usually from what I've seen, a full blade happens because they open their free leg too much, instead of having it aligned with the skating leg. Tomoe has the most beautiful and perfect lutz I've seen in years. I hope she gets confidence to put 2 clean programs and then she will be unstoppable

Mako, beautiful edge and flow. Toe pick problem is easier to fix than edge problem.

やっぱり、1回話に上がっていたフルブレだと減点されるルールを追加したらいいと思う。正しい跳び方をしている川畑さんや荒木さんよりも間違っている跳び方をしている坂本さんの方が加点がつくのはおかしい話だと思う。だから、そのルールを追加することで、エッジも厳しく見られることになるだろうから一石二鳥だしいいと思う。逆に、こんなにいろんな人が疑問に思っているのに、何一つ対策を講じないISUも責任はある。ただ、選手は悪くない、この事を忘れないでいただきたいです。

Wakaba was so underscored in this event!! Am I the only person who think that Kaori is not as good as her scores? lol her pcs should’ve been Wakaba’s pcs. JSF is crazy!

I agree with you on some of this. Kaori's GOE and non-call for flutz was ridiculous, and Wakaba IS underscored (and not just at this event). But their PCS should not be the same. Kaori has superior skating skills and more difficult transitional content. I also found her interpretation of the music to be particularly stunning in the sp. I think she and Wakaba are both great performers and it is fine to prefer one over the other, but these other things cannot be ignored and should be reflected in the component score.

@@eowynshieldmaiden Kaori also has poor upper body carriage, stiff back, poor arm movements and not as good musicality as Higuchi, although she has improved it.

@@joeyartk Your opinion, to which you're entitled. But arm movements and musicality are not as quantifiable as skating skills and transitions. I enjoy Wakaba a lot but her musicality suffers in her long programs when she simply skates down the rink from jump to jump.

Missing my gal Rika, the only top international woman with a true 3Lz+3T combo right now (and the only one other than Liza Tuk with a true Lutz...) But yah Mako's wasn't too bad (it was not *really* a blade assist), and Tomoe's is great

5-Mako, nearly full blade assistance,.4-Mai-Flutz, 3-Rino, ok only single mistake, 2-Wakaba, same as Rino, ok, 1-Kaori-Flutz, overscored GOE. but I commend them for the effort they have put into this extremely difficult and demanding jump. keep going Japan.

I believe for Wakaba's, her lutz didn't really shift to flat edge. To me it looks like the blade was already off the ice (especially most of the front part of the blade).

But for lutz with true counter rotation at take-off, it is the back part of the blade leaving the ice first. この動画がヘイトとか不満を持ってる人たちはルッツのエッジが正しくない選手のファンですかね。今のIsuの判定で正しいエッジで飛んでる選手たちが被害を負っているのは確かで、エッジさえ正しく評価すれば順位も大分変わりますよ。ISUがこの動画を見るかみないかは関係なく少なくともフィギュアスケートのファンの間だけでもこのようなエッジ問題を軽く思ってはいけないと思います。ルッツのエッジを無視してGOEを押すのであればわざわざフリップとルッツ二つのジャンプにわけておく必要ないでしょう。

@ふみ 10年前からフィギュアスケートの勉強をしてきたのでリップも知ってますし、もちろんプロトコルもちゃんとみてますよ。ISUのルールブックも読んで常にルール確認もしてます。説明不足でしたが、私が順位が変わると言ったのはこの大会だけでなく、これまでとこれからの全ての大会のこと言ってるんです。今回のような選手の間に大きな実力差がある、ほぼ全日本2は変わらないかもしれませんが、GPファイナル、世界選手権などA級大会ではエッジのジャッジで変わりますよ。だから去年基準シェルバコワちゃんのルッツがかなり問題になりました。(結局cocで4！されましたし) そしてルッツだけ！っていうわけではなく、フリップも含めて全てのジャンプのエッジをちゃんと採点ほしいです。フィギュアスケートは芸術のなにか以前にスポーツですよ？？センター試験とかでこの問題…正解書いてる子があまりにも少なすぎる…よ〜しこの問題は受験者全員正解にしましょ〜というのと何が違いますか。他のスポーツや分野だったらすでに大大炎上案件ですよw 当たり前ですが、両方ちゃんと飛んでる上記のように調子がのいい時のリーザ、梨花ちゃんが正しいですしそのような選手を育成するためにもちゃんとジャッジをする必要があります。じゃないとルール要ります？？

@ふみルッツ含めて全ジャンプのジャッジさえちゃんとすればこういう動画が作られることもないですし。ここ最近までルッツのエッジは見過ごされてるのに、フリップだけ!マークつけてますからフリップ動画がほぼないのもそれでしょ。

It's an era started by Medvedeva :(. We had a good run of actual Lze calls between 2006 and 2014 (the post Sasha Cohen era lollll) and then once Medvedeva showed up the technical panel just gave up again lol. Truly sucks for Mao that the peak of her career was also the peak of when the ISU actually cared about lutz calls. (Also, for Yuna! These lutzes aren't any less sketchy than her alleged triple lip lol.) Side note for anyone looking for actual ladies' lutzes... watch most of the skaters 1994 and earlier. Back then, if a woman had a flutz she wouldn't compete it. You get some amazinggggggg outside edges from Denise Bielmann, Midori Ito, Tanya, Nancy, Chen Lu, Oksana Baioul, etc. It was only when a "full regimen of triples" was required to be competitive that the flutzes realllly appeared. Otherwise, the skaters would just not opt to compete them. (Unfortunately, Yamaguchi, Kwan, Hughes, and Lipinski really ushered them in and normalized them....)

The worst Lutz gets the highest score. What the F era of FS are we living in? P.S. Yamashita does not use the full blade to jump. Check the movement once again please. I think she has the best technique along with Tomoe Kawabata.

Dear author, the edge is judged mainly at the moment when the right skate's toe touches the ice. What's the point of freezing when right skate is over the ice? It doesn't make sense.

After watching this I missed Yuna Kim so much🥺 her 3Lutz3Toe is incompareable speed , deep outside edge with almost no prerotated , delayed , huge ice coverage , most natural flow in between triple Her 3Lutz3Toe is one of the iconic combinations of women skatings

it's not, it's just the toe pick. she just picks in at a lower angle (which honestly seems kind of riskier to me in case the pick doesn't catch). it's not really possible to only use "half the blade"..... either you're using the toe pick (depending on the angle you pick you'll catch different "ridges" of the pick), or you have to use the entire center of the blade and place it onto the ice like a deep edge. (Like Mihara at 1:48). The worst offenders of prerotation just go even further and then turn on that edge before taking off (sorrttt of like Sakamoto at 4:10, but really Aliev and the Russians are way worse)

@@ぱにぱに-k1g そうでしたか、ロシアのメドの審査員の見えない所でのごまかしジャンプでの金メダル🥇は有名です。動画にも残っています。一度や二度ではありません。常習犯です。レベルがどんどん高くなりごまかし切れなくなったのです。薬物使用後の動画まであげています。指摘したら慌てて消しています。動画を調べて見てください。嘘にまみれている事がわかってしまいます。

This was the first time in 5 years that Kaori put the 3Lz in her SP. Although it is technically a flutz, I don't really care about that. She landed it cleanly, and the program is absolutely breathtaking! I love it!! 🤩💖🇯🇵⛸🥇

ほとんどのトップレベルの選手が正しいルッツを飛べていないのですからねえ。坂本さんだけが甘く採点されているわけではなくむしろ樋口さんの採点が辛すぎに思えます。日本選手を応援しているので当たり前かもしれませんがオリンピックや世界選手権の英語のコメントも　ユヨン　イエリム　サカモト　ヒグチの点は低すぎ　イエローボックスには辛口というのが多かったです。欧米の選手も表彰台に載ってフィギュア人気が高くなるのは歓迎です。
