LUTZ PREROTATION COMPETITION!! // who prerotates the most?

DISCLAIMER: I'm not making this video to hate on any skater, just wanted to see the Lutz technique trend for the top 20 ladies. A lot of skaters can prerotate 1/2+ but still have enormous jumps, like Kaori or Yelim. A lot of skaters can prerotate 1/2+ and can have jumps that are basically twizzles.
Wanted to end my hiatus with a BANG. Here is a random video idea I had 1 hour ago and put together with some sloppy editing. I'm super sleepy and it's 2am currently, but I had to get this video out because I haven't uploaded in forever!
Almost done with 1st semester of college. Woo.

Another problem with a lot of these skaters is I’m seeing a whole bunch of FLUTZ’S but not really any LUTZ’S. A majority of them go from the backwards outside left edge right to the inside edge right before they take off! That makes the jump a flip which, if you are an elite competitive figure skater, you know is actually a downgraded difficulty jump from the Lutz. The flip jump is below the Lutz by one spot. 🤦🏻‍♀️BRING BACK PATCH!!!!!!!!!! ♾ PLEASE!!!!!!
@antong1036

Most of those, given pre-rotations, morph into loops rather than flips, which one more step down the jumps hierarchy. You can't really prerotate much if you strike your pick into ice, so many of them just drop the blade completely to make half a revolution on ice. That is to say, few of them have good flips as well.

The toe pick boot should ideally hit the ice at an angle no greater than 45 degrees (0.125), and by the time it rotates to 90 degrees (0.25), everything should begin to lift off. Kamila's 3Lz becomes an overrated 2Lo. She starts off with the naturally unavoidable 0.25 pre-rotation, but instead of lifting off, that's merely the angle of her boot when the toe pick *begins* to hit the ice. Her weight then shifts onto the full front outside-edge of the blade (bad) and spins another 0.5 revolutions (even worse) before actually lifting off the ice. This turns the jump into a double loop, because at the moment of lift off, the original skating foot is now the free foot crossed over the toe-pick-turned-outside-edge-spinning skating foot, and she rotates for 2.25 revolutions. Not her fault though, and the ISU tacitly allow judges to overlook these deficiencies prejudicially.

Prerotation is not penalized by judges, simply because Judges can not see it when skaters took off the ice, because of the speed. Yuzuru Hanyu has already studied how judges can't see it in his thesis at Waseda. Unlike Yuna Kim, whose jumps were almost always textbook jumps, nowadays many skaters take advantages of the judges' inability to recognize it in order to get higher scores by increasing speed of the jumping. Then, another consequence of such a high-speed jumping was visible, not in the eyes of judges, but in the actual eyes of ice workers: which is the size of holes and number of squid marks left on the ice after skaters finish their performances. For those skaters who followed the textbook technique of jumps, the PR score is relatively lower than other skaters who "manipulate" the blind-spot of judges to get higher scores.

Thank you. This just shows how much of a farce the whole point-based judging system has become. The fact that Valieva was expected to win OG with technique this bad shows that the sport and its judging need yet another overhaul. A Lutz shouldn't have more than about a quarter turn of pre-rotation; no woman should yet have been given credit by the ISU for landing a quad Lutz, because, in terms of how the jump should be performed, none has (there are plenty of men, including the first to have the jump ratified who are guilty of this cheat as well). I could go on and on, but I would happily go back to the days where elements were performed with perfect technique rather than rampant use of incorrect technique to ostensibly perform the most difficult elements.

@@lamcy1731 I’d like to point out that skaters can compete well beyond 18 if they are taking care of themselves correctly, don’t get injured (which okay, is difficult not to do) and yes, having solid technique and a smart training schedule as well as lifestyle can make a ton of difference. It’s called “Ladies figure skating” for a reason, it’s not the “little girls figure skating” event. Personally, I’m sick of seeing little girls try to do what their bodies are not meant to or built to do at many of these ages. And I speak from 14 years of experience. And I’m especially sick of seeing these little girls trying to eeek out these jumps and other elements they don’t have the proper technique to do. They’re not being taught correctly. @teamshcherbakova702 2 года назад
Reviewing all jumps' takeoffs and landings in slowmo will take too much time, it's technically not possible. It would make the competition too long, and it's financially not profitable so it's safe to say ISU(or any other sporting body tbh) won't do it. I mean look at rhythmic gymnastics, their judges judge in real time, they don't even watch replays, because if they do it's gonna take days for just a single apparatus's qualification round to finish.
@vreedlak1833
@vreedlak1833 2 года назад
@@teamshcherbakova702 I disagree. They'll only use it on lutzes and flips. The process shouldn't take more than a minute - and it may not cause any "delay" in scoring at all if it's done efficiently while the skater is taking bows and getting off the ice and walking to the kiss and cry. I also think that the judges shouldn't consider the height of jumps - the modern technology already exists to tell the height (and distance) of jumps. Rules should state what is considered a high enough jump in order to get more GOE points.
