The Luxembourg American Cemetery is the only American military cemetery located in Luxembourg.
More than 5,000 U.S. service members, many of whom lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge and in the advance to the Rhine River during World War II, are buried there.
The cemetery is also the final resting place of General Patton.
Together, We Remember their sacrifice.

The American Battle Monuments Commission honors America's fallen service members and their stories at 26 overseas cemeteries and 31 monuments.

Many of these brave souls have also been instrumental in freeing my country of The Netherlands. Every year on May 4th we continue to honor them. A mere “thank you” does not envold the amount of our gratitude!

I visited here on a cold, drizzly March afternoon some 20 years ago. I and another American from Chicago, were the only ones there. At closing time, we were approached by a park employee, who asked if we were Americans. After replying Yes, he then asked if we would like to take down the two large American flags at the head of the cemetery. I remember it like it was yesterday. What an extreme honor!

Beautiful and humbling place. I had the honor of lowering the flag the day I visited in 2017. It will forever remind me of those who have sacrificed all.

I wonder who has the original burial records of these American cemeteries prior to some of these soldiers being disinterred in 1949 and returned to the United States for reburial.
