Luxor Las Vegas Nile River Ride 1994

I shot this video in Las Vegas in 1994 while staying at the Luxor. It's a copy of a copy of copy from over the years, so the quality is poor - but it is nonetheless really cool. Most people don't even know that this ride existed, as it closed permanently a few years after the hotel opened.

Thank you for this upload...The tour guide is my old family friend Jack. He passed away years ago. People used to ask him for autographs because they thought he looked like John Denver when he had his glasses on.

It is sad that many family attractions are closing down, like volcanoes, pirate shows, water parks, lazy rivers, rides, etc.

The volcanos suddenly bursting was killing local birds. Read Vegas is slowly turning away from family-friendly attractions. 🤷‍♀️ ✌️

Footage of the old Luxor river ride is very rare - Never got a chance to see this, my first time at the Luxor was in 1997. I've been trying to see if I can recognize any of the areas to see how it was converted back to the way it is now

People have a hard time believing. I tell them “If you’re a girl, you don’t have to pay for vegas nightclubs. Guestlist is free.” They always call me a liar. Oh well. I’ll just keep going for free while the doubters pay.

I just remembered this existed while I was collecting old ride footage to recreate childhood vacations. So glad someone uploaded this and it's remembered, it was really cool. At the same time I was there they had a two floor arcade sponsored by Sega and it was just the coolest thing for a 13 year old, I loved the egypt theme. We stayed here but visited all the hotels.

They originally marketed it as transportation, but it turned out that it was faster to just walk to your destination, so they then marketed it as entertainment, which also didn’t work because it wasn’t very entertaining.

I rode the Nile River Ride in 1996. I thought it was pretty good, and I'm amazed to read it only lasted 3 years. It's the only time I visited Vegas (for 2 days) and I enjoyed this ride. I thought we paid something to go on it but I forget. We didn't leave disappointed though. I was reading online some say it was removed because......it wasn't thrilling enough. Give me a break! Can't people just enjoy a cool dark ride? Does it really have to be some kind of roller coaster too? My best guess is the real reason it was removed was to make space for something else, such as more rooms. This attraction took up a lot of room. We found it worth our time to visit in our limited time, and we stayed at Circus Circus which was probably a lot cheaper. But if funds weren't of concern staying here with the Nile Ride inside would have been very nice.

There are several videos of the hotel when brand new that show its original layout ...I stayed when the ride was open....You are walking on the river bed when standing at the front desk and along the corridor to the towers! When you entered the hotel you did not walk to into it as today but stayed level with the driveway...bridge walk ways took you over the river and a ramp went down into the casino ...also the front desk was on the side of the hotel facing Mandalay Bay with grand entrance... All was ripped out in 1997 by a new CEO to "upscale" the hotel with the Towers suites and new Theater ....it really was cool when it was brand new and was very busy in the early years

They really let that place go. So sad that they put so much into the Luxor when they built it, it was so legit like a museum. I saw the Tutankhamun exhibit when they had it there. But later they just gave up on everything... filled in the river, turned the Sega arcade into a food court, got rid of just about everything and now it's just another run-down themed casino.

Yes it looks rather boring. “Faster to walk” sounds like the Vegas elevated tram. By the time you walk to the rear of a casino, wait for the tram, and reach a second casino, you could just walk there (in half the time).

@@electrictroy2010 It wasn't boring at all, unless your bored with the classic dark rides or jungle cruise adventure rides at amusement parks. Sadly though kind of rides aren't as popular at parks like they used to in favor or huge thrill seeking coaster type attractions. The dark rides were my favorites as a kid of the 70s and teen of the 80s, and I still love them. Must be a generational gap thing that younger people seem to want the big thrills and can't appreciate the "artistic" approach of theme rides that were once popular. None of my friends that I've attended amusement parks with were big fans of the huge thrill seeking rides, and when I attend parks today, there is very little to go on as the people I'm generally with enjoy big thrill seekers even less than I do. Bring back these kinds of attractions! When I visited, I don't recall it taking guests to their rooms but rather it was a ride. Maybe they re-themed it a little different by 1996 when I visited?

I wish this still existed it would've been cool even tho my first stay here made me hate the Luxor (I don't hate the employees at the museums there or the people at the restaurants or the security or the maids they were very nice and helpful. But the front desk and everyone else there like the employees at the shops that try to sucker you into buying stuff). Had ADA problems, my mom is (sorta) bound to a wheelchair (after taking the 4th COVID Vaccine back in April 2022 she couldn't feel her legs or feet or hands. She couldn't really walk at all at the time. Now she can sorta walk now but she can't balance that well so when we go on trips she has to bring her travel electric wheelchair and she can use her caine when we're out of the house at home). We got there at 1:00pm and we did sign up for early check a few days earlier but apparently they didn't assign us a room so we had to wait until 3:00 😃. Once we got the room it was small and a bit dirty (but he beds were made and clean) but the problem was it wasn't an ADA room and we couldn't change rooms that day because apparently (as we were told from the front desk) it was past the time they could do it. So we had to stay the night in that room and switch to another room tomorrow. We did end switching the room it was a bit bigger than the last one so it was nice. But on the 2nd of being in that room I started to hear chirping from my air vent. It sounded like a cricket, I did hear crickets around the hotel but I was told by employees that it was just an audio but I wondered why they would put an audio of a cricket around the hotel. But as soon as I heard it in my room I thought maybe they just want to cover up they have a cricket infection but I tried calling the front desk anyway about it and they said they would send someone up. We waited for 2 and a half hours but no one should up so I called again and they said they couldn't bring anyone up. They said they will give us a discount on our bill but after I checked the next day on our bill it didn't change it's still same price.

He said this tunnel gives him an uneasy feeling [at 2:02] and I've heard some say they've seen a ghostly apparition in one of the tunnels during this ride. Wow.
