According to the Sephora page, “The iconic Dior lip balm infused with color-reviver technology that adapts to the pH of lips to reveal a custom glow for up to six hours.” So yes the dior lip balm has that pH pink!
Ironically the only product that did that right was the essence cranberry lip oil. It's perfect. Almost transparent but not quite, gives just a hint of color and is very nourishing. It was a limited edition I guess, and it's discontinued but in every Essence post you'll see people calling for its return. I'll enjoy mine till it lasts, it's almost finished
Yes exactly, I'd been buying it since there was only one shade when I discovered it, and when I've shopped for it not in-store it's often unclear if I'm getting the "Color Reviver" adjusts to pH colour changing ones or not. (Why can't Sephora get their website together, ugh! They're not the only ones, but still.)
Mahogany is the only shade that doesn't do the pink thing. It's very frustrating! That color is actually pretty strong though sadly. I can never wear it by itself really.
DIOR ADDICT Hydrating Shine Lipstick - 90% Natural-Origin Ingredients - Refillable -- 100 Nude Look. This is a lipstick and different from the Dior Lip Balm with completely different ingredients. It has no fragrance to my damaged nose. I hate fragrance in my makeup because of my allergies. I can't stand mint anything because of allergies, especially the horrible Burt's Bees which comes without mint but is hard to find. I think one of the main problems with make up is the reality that products call themselves one thing but are more like another thing entirely. Lipstick to lipstick or blush to blush or foundation to foundation is misleading. Some concealers can be used as foundation for example. Hanna, you want a balm, but under my rule above that what a product is called means not so much in terms of how you use it, so try the Addict Lipstick in Nude. I suggest Hanna goes to a store which carries all the colors of Dior Addict LIPSTICK and try the 100 Nude Look shade. Don't buy another Dior balm as yes, they do have that technology that turns pink on her. Don't buy another Dior anything without trying in a store. Though a new baby makes a trip to a mall store hard I imagine. Dior Addict Lipstick is my new favorite for soothing color. I use the Elf Lip Mask as a hydrating/soothing clear product at night and around the house. But in winter, even this is not enough. I am very interested in the most soothing lip products as I have a lifetime habit of licking my lips and need hydration more than ever as I age. I believe I may have developed this habit in childhood because I could not breathe through my nose due to sinus infections. This led to dry lips which I probably had to lick while I slept or tried to sleep. Just awful that there is no real treatment for this. I will await the drugstore video with much interest.
@@jessabeauty917I used to work in cosmetics and worked for a lot of different brands. The main difference in luxury versus mid range brands is the god awful fragrance. People think perfume = fancy
It's never even a generally appealing fragrance either! It's always a powdery bitter floral, something you would never consider putting near your mouth! Like stop being weird and stick with soft mass appealing vanilla, no one is complaining about the scent of Mac lipsticks. Or soft mint most people will deal with. Or even soft fruit, or edible florals like chamomile if you have to. But NO ONE is excited to spray perfume in their mouth, it's just a weird thing to put in a lip product.
I recently tried some drugstore tinted lipbalms from german organic drugstore brands Lavera and Alverde and I was totally shocked about how strong and artificially they were scented. Obviously they want to be perceived as fancy and try to succeed in the mainstream market with it. I’m out, I can’t stand it. I once bought a Gucci Lipstick because it was so pretty but couldn’t even stand to have this on my lips because it felt totally chemical and artificial. I had tomwipe it off immediately. I’m so much used to organic makeup that I can’t bear conventional makeup anymore…
I get that fragrance is part of the luxury experience but... Actually I don't get it, why is being choked by clouds of perfume part of the luxury experience?
for the drugstore showdown try Elf hydrating core lip shine (in delightful or happy), Burt's Bees tinted lip balm (in red dahlia), and Sephora Collection rouge lacquer (in no regrets)!
I find Burt’s Bees to be quite pigmented too. I’m not quite as pale as Hannah but almost, so may be in a similar place with everything looking like a lipstick haha Intrigued by the Elf though, the hydrating core sounds very promising
The elf core lip shines are some of my fav! I recently received a three pack of the Burt's bees as a gift & couldn't handle how much menthol is in them 😢
I love the burt’s bees one too, in the red dahlia and hibiscus shade. I also like the fresh tinted balms, but I do think they’re worth searching in person as some shades are more pigmented than others.
I really think you would like k beauty tinted glossy balms. They are well formulated, often with nourishing ingredients and even SPF. Fragrance tends to be minimal and they’re drug store priced. The Romand glasting melting balms and the Nivea Japan rich care and color balms are a good place to start.
I had a Gucci lip balm that I loved and used daily. I used it up within a year and promptly re-ordered. When I re-ordered, I found that the price had gone up significantly-- and then when I received it, it was already smelling like crayons, i.e., it was old (even though the stamped code suggests that it was manufactured in 2023). Yes, I returned it. Anyway, this whole episode, especially the price rise, has turned me off to luxury makeup. I'm not saying I won't buy it anymore, but I'm taking a fresh look at drugstore and indie brands. I'm looking forward to the drugstore balm video!
I was in love with the Gucci sheer lipsticks with the rosebuds on them, I used all my favorite shade, the Marguerite Jade, and the 2nd one i ordered smelled like crayons. Sucks because they dont have that shade anymore....IT WAS EVERYTHINGGG
@@elisepeachey1633 The colors from the original series are quite bold, pigmented colors. But 10 and 11 from the Dusty on the Nude are a lot more manageable even with a bare face
These aren't glossy, but I adore the Fresh tinted lip balms (I think they call them lip treatments). They're nourishing enough on my lips that I don't need anything underneath, it's a true chapstick kind of bullet format that I can throw on without a mirror, the colors are lovely (I have Honey, Cocoa, and Plum), they have enough pigment to show up but not enough to feel like a lipstick, and the scent is very subtle. They also come in a pretty heavy metal component that I absolutely love.
“Bright flamingo-y sunset pink” is NOT what the Dior looks like on you…. Not sure if we aren’t seeing it properly on camera? But honestly, it’s very natural on you. It lifts your skin in a flattering way. What’s wrong with pink?
Has anybody tried the 08 Brick Red shade, and did it turn pink on you? This product is my Holy Grail lip balm; regardless of the shade, I'm here for the amount of pigment and the consistency. However, after trying 01 Pink, 15 Cherry, and 04 Coral, I think I want to try a less pink one. I'm leaning towards either Warm Beige, Mahogany, or Brick Red.
Whoever recommended Fresh Sugar Cocoa Lip Balm in your last video. I got it and 10/10. I love it. It is a pretty brown and smells lemony but isn’t so pigmented that you have to worry about putting it on without a mirror but I will say not really shiny. Just a good hydrating balm.
Hannah saying, 'it was a real hallows and horcruxes situation,' made my day 😂 Wonderful video as always! Edit to add that I tried that Dior one almost 10 years ago in college, when I was first experimenting with luxury makeup, and I found it to be absolutely atrocious in multiple ways 😬 The color was almost impressively unflattering on my fair-light olive skin (thank you for making me see that I have olive skin, Hannah!) and it actually dried my lips out, somehow. It definitely had the pH color changing thing going on back then, I think it even said pH on the tube and was advertised as such. I am very much looking forward to the drugstore version of this video! Question: would you ever consider trying to find a long lasting lip stain over which you might put a neutral balm? That's what I like doing on light makeup days with benetint. I'm still trying to find other sheer enough, natural-looking tints, but it does enough for me right now to really sparingly apply the benetint and then just be able to apply the aquafor I dug out of my backpack over the top for nourishment/protection.
I actually think the Chanel balm looks fantastic on you! I personally love the YSL but I only have it in the clear shade, which appears slightly pink in the tube and is called pink but is genuinely clear with no color changing properties. BTW the Dior balms definitely have color changing (pH pink) pigments in them. It's the whole "color revive" MO.
The YSL is perfection on you! I'd wear that every day if I looked like you! I'm a huge fan of Dior Addict especially Tie & Dior and Beige Oblique. I think you'd rock the Beige Oblique
I've never really found a *truly* nourishing luxury lip balm. I have chronically dry lips and so many lip products just make it worse. I have the best luck with NARS Afterglow and Dior Addict. For nourishment I typically wear a a liner for definition and then top it with By Terry balm - that's truly nourishing but no colour@@jessabeauty917
I am thrilled to share that I am enjoying this video in my brand new (to me) Babaa sweater. Coveted for 2+ years, finally found at my amazing local consignment store. Babaa I love you as much as I thought I would. Thank you allowing me to change the subject and yet come full circle for a brief moment. Pls don't throw me off the island.
You are in luck! She already did a midrange review video. It popped up as a suggestion at the end. The title is something like, « why is it so hard to find a tinted lip balm that… »
Here to highly recommend the Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment, if you do another mid-range video. They definitely have that translucent quality, ability to apply without looking at a mirror, and a buttery feel on the lips. Loving this series!
It's because you haven't tried the nude shade of Bobbi Brown extra lip tint, which I've worn for years and checks every box you say. Thicker, plush, no scent, and ok I'm getting to the end of the video and now you are saying it. Yes, you DO have to try it. It's perfect.
YSL has a new Tinted product that I think will hit more of the mark for you, it’s not released yet, but it is in the stick form and on the Canada website says coming soon. It’s the “Loveshine lip oil stick”. Shade range is ok too.
YSL is always so confusing with their lip releases. They always seem to have various formulas of glossy/balmy/shiny lip colors that rotate out over the years. I remember having a ton of love for I believe it was the “gloss in balm” formula from the 2010s that was a perfect sheer lip color. I feel like if I just wait they’ll cycle back to some “new” but similar product line.
Hannah I tried Clinique Black Honey for the first time today and it immediately made me think of you and your lip balm quest!! A little more pigmented than Burt’s Bees Red Dahlia but not lipstick pigment at all. Thick cushiony lip mask texture without any stickiness, and a decent amount of shine. ✨
I am now left with 6 YSL. 4 Chanel and 4 Dior lip balms and not wanting to use any of them, mostly for the smell..my all time favorite is Clinique lip treatment !
Burt's Bees tinted lip balms are my favorite. On me, they are hydrating, very shiny, and lightly pigmented. I highly recommend them for the drugstore showdown.
Hannah!!! Have you seen the new foundation by about-face?? They have olive shades and I have seen reviews saying they are great. I saw them in store at ulta and as a pale girl, I was shocked that the lightest shade looked too light for me which is NEVER the case, and then I saw several olive undertones and you can see the green tint in the bottle. I thought of you right away and had to let you know
Charlotte Tilbury Hyaluronic Happikiss Lip Balm Lipstick might be too pigmented, but it feels so nice and comes in some neutrals. I really love it for the office in pillow talk
The last time Ulta had the 21 days of Beauty sale, the Bobbi Brown Extra Lip tint balm was part of the sale. The Sale has been renamed to the Semi-Annual sale and it starts soon(I think it starts March 8th). During the last sale I purchased the shade Blackberry and think you might enjoy that shade.
I think you would like the Illamasqua Hydra Lip Tint in the shade "Picnic Plum." It's a sheer balm in orange and green that... miraculously... turns into a subtle cool mauve on the lips. Wouldn't give you a wet shine, but a comfortable your-lips-but-better finish.
I feel so seen in your search for the perfect product. Everything you described in wanting a tinted lip balm is exactly what I've been looking for. I think I found it though. I think you should try the Dior Lip Glow in the shade Mahogany. Like you, I'm quite fair, and I find a lot of pinks to be instantly too bright, especially if they have any warmth in their color they tend to look orange. The Mahogany Dior Lip Glow is subdued enough like a berry color that it looks like my lips but better and shinier. I've bought it so many times now, and I've never bought a lip product so many times. I think it's worth a shot.
Finally caught up on all my HLP videos, thank you for the binge on a well needed day off! ♥ Tossing my 2 balm drug store cents into the ring: NYX Fat Oil click stick balm, I know, but hear me out: 1. a solid, not liquid, click stick pen (I know, not a bullet), cap goes on securely, you can toss it in your bag with confidence 2. sheer, an actually sheer tint-- not nothing, but not lipstick, lots of natural, neutral hues, yet fun to choose from-- the color is definitely there, just not bam THERE! 4. shiny, glossy, wet looking, NOT frosty, the color in my possession: #12 "trending topic" described as a "cosmic charcoal" cosmic, sure, I guess, there are tiny flecks of a copper shimmer in the balm that do not show up on the lip, but add to the wet-glossy look, no frost. Charcoal? umm, no, it has a brown- reddish brick hue to it, just barely reddish brown (I am a pale AF gal, it deepens the color of my lips in a subtle, yet beautifully glossy way) 5. not too thin, not too thick, a melty, nourishing feeling balm, not sticky at all--hydrating oils in the formula, feels good on your lips, not gone in a New York minute, but you will want to re-apply throughout the day. 6. not stinky, not perfumy-- a light fruit juicy inoffensive scent, not in your face, does not linger, is pleasant, no taste, no minty plump 7. the packaging, meh -- elegant? no. functional? yes. cartoony and kitsch, I suppose, if you want to stretch it to through that lens 8. inexpensive enough you could keep few of them at your reach -- in your bag, at your desk, in the car, if you so choose -- easy, no mirror application, with a tint, a hint of color Bought on a whim while walking the aisle at a CVS, no regrets. I too have been balm seeking. YSL candy glaze kept catching my eye. Scenic Brown, but every time I looked, every review, it just kept coming across as more lipstick, less balm. I hear here balm, I think sheer, I think tint. I don't think opaque, which is what it seems it is, I am glad I passed. That shiny, pretty component almost got me, but that is not what is going on my lips.
I think you’d love the Tarte lip quench in Rose (or Buff or Coral) - it sounds like it hits all your checks! Unfortunately I think they’ve discontinued it for the maracuja line but you may still be able to find some around (I got a bunch on sale). Really sad it’s on the way out, total MVP!
And yes, I once bought a Dior Lip Glow balm that was kind of like a soft peach colour - bought it because very pink shades don't fit me and my complexion. Would recommend :) I still have it, but I am not sure if it is still for sale.
Has this girl tried Burt's Bees tinted lip balms?? Sure, not glamourous, but certainly performs magnificently. Perfect colors & wears like a dream. Honestly don't know why I've never seen some hype for it (the best never do, do they). I suppose this will go in the "drugstore" video. Is bullet-casing a deal-breaker ? Does the drugstore even offer such a thing ?? Also...she may find them too pigmented, not thick & glossy enough.. I personally love a good pigment I can rub down for a "popsicle", which I think looks fantastic & is goals.
You might try the Gucci ones, and they have a rosewood thats pretty brown... And yeah I hate the PH ones, especially when they dont tell us...(stay away from Guerlain, theyre PH and dont say so... Also, theres a balm from Girlactik you might like, its very soft, like the click up ones, but has a pretty light tint, comes in a really great neutral to warm nude, a light orangey coral shade, and a non-PH clear pink, and theyre super nourishing and thick feeling. The only thing is they do have a scent, but they smell sort of like grape bubblegum, and I love the way they smell...You might like the Gucci and those from Girlactik, they fit most of your boxes. I have all the ones you mention here, and my fave is the Bobbi Brown too... hope this helps! :)
The Nature Republic Honey Melting Lip is supposed to be incredible - very similar to the Hourglass, but only $9! Might be worth a shot if you do a k beauty version. (Romand is way too fragranced for me, but the Peripera Ink Mood Glowy Balm is great !)
Nature republic was pretty pigmented I thought! And the shade I got was so much brighter than I expected I had to return it (plum- was hoping for a moody black honey but got bright red. Maybe the shade fig would be better idk)
I have a few of the Chanel ones. I really love them. I also love Bobbie Brown lip products though so that sounds promising. Matilda on video always has great suggestions in this category
I love that YSL lip balm, but when you were outlining your criteria I was like, oh no it is really pigmented. It is so beautiful and I love how heavy and luxurious the bullet feels
How interesting that luxury products are so heavily scented… I never bought luxury products because I never felt the need, so I wasn’t even aware of this but now I have one more reason to avoid them 😂 super excited for that drugstore version!!!
I have been in the same hunt and had similar experience with the Dior one. I'd also stay away from the Nars lip balm as it will dehydrate your lips. The one I've found I liked most was the MAC squirt gloss stick, with the Chanel balm coming second place for me ❤
Dior Addict Mahogany is my ride or die, and I have your coloring. I have tried again and again to find a cheaper option that works as well for me and have never found anything. My only complaint is that I go through it so fast, way too fast for how much it costs.
I would recommend the MAC squirt plumping gloss sticks - they are just what you are looking for. Very similar to the hourglass formula but less pigmented and a little bit more tingling. I have the brown shade
The dior lip glow definitely has that PH ingredient!!! It sucks because the formula feels nice, but it gets way too saturated on your lips. It does leave a tint after wearing.
I wish I would have watched these videos last week. I too was on a journey to find the perfect tinted lip balm. Ps the Nivea blackberry works great on my rosy lips. Was very interested in hourglass as well sooooo
I just bought YSL 15 and for me, it's a light wash. But I'm biracial with light medium olive skin...so definitely you got the wrong shade for your fair skin.
i don’t know how the isamaya balms would fit into future editions of this series (as in between drug store and luxury and you already covered that category) but i’d love to see you try one! they seem to run the gamut pigment wise but clear & black shades seem the most translucent (tbf this is a selfish request as i’m considering buying one and would love your thoughts first 😆)
That YSL looked lovely on you. I know it doesn't meet the brief, but my goodness it looked pretty. Edited to add: The blurb on the Dior Addict says it "reacts directly with unique chemistry of each woman's lips before releasing color." (On the eCosmetics page). So yes, it may do some pH-fu.
Just from experience-I have the same struggle as you-you gotta go with the lightest shade in these ranges, even if they are pink (they almost certainly will be). These are the only shades most likely to have desaturated pigment load. (They won’t always be like this, but you have a better chance.) It’s a shame that this is how the brands approach formulating the colours in their ranges, but it’s just the way it is. But… if it is a desaturated pink, it’ll either be grey enough or translucent enough that it will work even though pink isn’t the colour that you think you want.
Oh my goodness w each product I kept thinking “Hannah really needs to try the Bobbi brown lip tint” so I audibly cheered when you mentioned it at the end 😂 Will be fascinated to see if it hits your marks!
my favorite ever tinted lip balm is UZU/Flowfushi's 38C/99F lip in shade -4. and im heartbroken because they discontinued their lip products. but it's still going strong, the perfect purple shade that complements my features and can be used as a blush as well! i got a pack of 4 products for maybe $50, which was a lot, but no regrets. i still have them a year later and use them regularly
Ok I meant to comment on your first video about a lip product I am currently really enjoying: Allie Glines’ brand Ravie Beauty Effortless Lipstick in Dahlia. They also have Lily you might like, too. They have a slim bullet and package and I Enjoy the texture/ formula. No scent. Nice color. You might want to check it out.
Tirtir has a new lip product called a melting balm. It's transparent and nourishing. Might not have as much shine as you want, but give it a shot. I quite like mine and wear it with no other makeup.
one more pitch for the finding ferdinand delicious balms, which are far more lightly tinted than their product photos! mon cheri is a brownish color that you might like, although i have the black balm myself (a mauve). the texture is thin extremely buildable, so it never looks overwhelming even if i put on 4-5 coats.
Paying very close attention to this series as I am looking for the exact same product you are looking for! I don’t know why it’s so hard to find! Have you tried the Honest Beauty Tinted Lip Balm in Plum Drop? It’s not as thick as the hourglass but it is at a drugstore price point. I’d also LOVE and indie brand version of this series!! Pretty please 🙏 😊
My personal favourite from the drugstore is the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm! Red Dahlia is my shade of choice but there are a few non-pinks to choose from 😄
My two favorite lip balms that are just tinted lip balms and not lipsticks. One is from it cosmetics. It's my go to everyday lip balm. Another that I was just introduced to is from Ilia. It's great too.
i got the dior lip glow in rosewood thinking it would give me a ‘my lips but better’ look, since my lips are naturally dark pink. the color is definitely way more pink and vibrant than i was expecting, i have to hype myself up to wear it out lol
Hi Hannah, not sure if you will see this BUT - the BEST tinted lip balm I have ever tried is one by an Australian company called Perfect Potion. They have four colours but the Venus Lip Tint is my personal fave. It’s beautiful, moisturising, long lasting, not sticky or over the top pigmented. Honestly perfection.
Have you tried Gucci's Rouge de Beauté Brillant Glow & Care Lipstick? I think you'd love Linnet Stone, and I'm pretty sure you're good with the Gucci fragrance. These are my favorite types of lip products.
Try Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in the colour Boy…. No discernible fragrance (surprisingly) Perfect cool beige Shiny & nourishing but a thin formula so possibly not as viscose as you would prefer but nonetheless very comfortable Also worth a try is Guerlaine KissKiss Bee Glow Lips Balm in Blossom Kiss
The cover girl tinted lip balms are so good, they give me everything that you mentioned minus the high shine but honestly I’m not against adding a touch of lip oil on top. But seriously even more than that, try k beauty lip tints. Rom&and is stupid cheap and they have a really good glasting balm. This is exactly what you’re looking for. I only use k brands for my lips because I go for that natural every day look and I abhor the lipstick look and feel. Korean lip products are so different
As someone who is also quite fair, this is honestly an ongoing issue for me across the board with cosmetics …. The pigmentation everyone else seems to be on the hunt for is the thing I want LESS of lol. I guess what I’m looking for a lot of the time is more akin to a wash then the super saturation of so many cosmetics. I had a great translucent lip balm from wet’n’wild that surprised me with just how great it was. It was that perfect amount of a wash of pigment and shine but was actually a genuine lip balm. Sadly, I am at the end of it and they don’t make it anymore. *le sigh* so it’s back to the drawing board for me as well. All said, I’m looking forward to wherever this journey you’re on takes you because hopefully it will work out well for me as well 😂
Hi - I have light-medium olive coloring with a cool undertone and relatively dark lips. The Bobbi Brown extra lip tint (I have bare raspberry) is hardly visible on me so since you are fairer might work for you? It is scented (maybe fruity - not sure) but it doesn’t bother me.
For a drugstore trial, I wonder how you’d get on with Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine. It is fragrant, but in that sort of lipstick-vanilla way that I personally don’t mind. It is fairly sheer on me but it might be too much pigment on a less saturated skin tone.
I've bought the Dior lip glow dozens of times in 4 different shades, and part of what I've loved about it is that it does stain my lips a bright sheer pink color. That being said, the company's consistency over the yrs hasn't been great. For example I ordered the plum shade one year and it was a gorgeous sheer color, I ordered it a little over a year later, and it was opaque as hell! With even one swipe! I couldn't wear it. It was WAY too pigmented and looked like a full on lipstick. I felt duped as it had for sure been altered from the prior version. Also, in yrs past the Raspberry shade always stained my lips, however the current one I have doesn't stain AT ALL. This REALLY annoys me, because these balms are the furthest things from cheap. I want to know that when Im buying one I'm getting what I got before. If anyone knows of a dupe for the Ultra Pink or Raspberry shades I'd love to know.
