@@carolina12195Love the writing of this show. It’s not random little things that come back, it’s actually plot relevant details slowly revealed to us and I love it
@@carolina12195 why do I keep forgetting about that show like it wasn't just as cool as this one I just feel like it's slightly less popular than the rest or maybe I'm just extremely forgetful
"There is no Heterosexual explanation for this". This was a real tweet from 2020, when the trailer for season 1b released and showed the Lumity scenes from Grom. Dana Terrace even answered, "There really isn't." This was when we know Lumity is real and nobody can stop it.
Dana: "Can I get more money to draw more frames?" Disney : "For an epic fight scene?" Dana: "Yeeeeeeeees." Dana: *Actually animates a dance gay scene like a boss*
Yep! There are five or six important scenes in the series where they really put everything into the animation budget to make sure the emotional beats hit with the intensity they deserve. When you see the animation style shift like that, you KNOW something big is about to go down.
When Luz and Amity danced, their magic was significantly stronger than it usually is. Amity's abomination was so much bigger than in previous episodes, and Luz's plant magic became a giant tree! I feel like this just represents a bigger picture about how they give each other strength. How perfect they are together.
I love Luz and Amity so much. Besides being Disney's really first LGBTQ+ romances, it's just so natural! Amity is not the classic popular girl, that needs time to warm up the the MC. No, they become friends mid season 1. And her crush on Luz is so cute and amazingly shown in her blushing. Luz is oblivious, but probably because she doesn't know the feeling being like by someone like this.
Pretty much every decision Amity makes up until this point is for approval; from teachers, her parents, people in general, but she also had a sort of shield because she was pretending to be this mean person that was extremely confident. Amity's biggest fear is showing her true self, and them still rejecting her. She was terrified of aksing Luz to Grom because now Luz knows who Amity truly is, and her rejection would absolutely break her.
Luz was also been an important catalyst for so many things starting to go well for Amity again. Such as starting to mend her relationship with Willow in the previous episode. It's easy to imagine Amity feeling if asking Luz out went poorly, all that would get taken away from her a second time.
First off, Weeby, you are slaying that dress. And that Hooty plush is so cute. Secondly, this episode is phenomenal. The reveal that the note was for Luz, is one of my favorite parts of any reaction to the show. It's such a defining moment in animation that still hits today. Also, Luz and Amity's dance is one of the most iconic moments in the series, it's gorgeous.
I love how Weeby's dress looks similar to Eda's, even has the uneven part in the front! I'm so hyped to watch this ive been YEARNING for this ever since you showed the Hooty short
It was a great decision to have Luz pretty much never mention going back to the human realm until this episode, because everything hits like a truck. Luz hasn't even been thinking about home because it doesn't actually feel like home to her. It was a place where everyone thought she was weird and tried to change her, and Luz feels so much guilt because her mother is also part of that world. This episode really shifts Luz as a character and introduces very interesting concepts for her.
I still remember the day of the premiere, this episode left many fans with their mouths open and started one of the best ships that animation has ever had. Luz: "So, who did you want to ask out?" Fans: "It's you, Luz!" Paper: Fans: *Pikachu surprised*
This actually premiered on the FNAF anniversary on August 8th. King ain't the iPad kid... Snaggleback Rebecca Rose dressed just like Luz (we had a trailer) That shot of her mom in the portal was the last of the S1B trailer, but fans were able to match the backgrounds and figure out it came from here rather than the season finale. If she grabbed the other half : "you're afraid of me?" Moringmark - a renowned comic artist for Gravity Falls and Owl House- (doing the latter since January 2021 post-S1) - made a comic where Luz had the other half blown her way, had it upside down and ask "who is ZNF?" Amity sighed in relief and everyone around them facepalmed (including Luz's mom who had no idea why. XD I think there's an art of Willow beating Miraculous Ladybug. Fans took to calling this letter sender "Creepy Luz"
You looked amazing, Weeby! With that plush I sense an _incredible_ cosplay opportunity in the future, and I don't mean dressing up as the Owl House! Couple of points worth noting: 1) You know a scene is going to be good when the frame rate of the animation suddenly doubles! Got another one of those coming up in a couple of episodes' time... 2) Luz's Grom outfit is in the bi flag colours, because our girl is loud and proud! This episode was an incredible moment for me because before I watched the show, most of what I knew about it was fan comics I had seen on Imgur, plus clips shared by animators I follow on the socials. I had assumed that Lumity was nothing more than a wishful thinking fan thing, based perhaps on very vague hints dropped in the show. I never dreamed cute blushes and a stunning dance scene was what kicked the fandom into overdrive. After seeing this episode for the first time I binged the rest of the show over the next couple of days because I had to know where this was going!
Fun fact, before this episode came out someone released an Owl House game that had the from tiara that induced hallucinations of their worst fears as a weapon So many theorists speculated that that was going to happen here
Be VERY CAREFUL Showing Hooty any likeness of himself Remembering way back when we thought a basic stage fright plot is the deepest King could get... You're definitely gonna need a King plush Welcome aboard the S.S. Lumity, the finest ship of this era of media. We got gorgeous art, big feels, and a perfectly ecological energy source: the boiling blood of Disney execs
You didn't really point this out but when Luz and Amity danced, their magic was significantly stronger than it usually is. Amity's abomination was so much bigger than it usually is in previous episodes, and Luz's plant magic became a giant tree! I feel like this just represents a bigger picture.
Couple fun facts/headcannons: Luz is confirmed neurodivergent, and it is almost unanimously agreed that she has ADHD, and with that comes the urge to actively do things you shouldn’t, which is very strong with buttons (I have both ADHD and Autism, and I can attest to the pull of buttons). There are a couple different theories as to why Luz is oblivious to Amity’s feelings at this time. One is that she just simply doesn’t pick up on the cues (either due to not having friends in the human realm, or my personal head cannon that she also has Autism), or that she has pretty low self-esteem (which is displayed a bit later) and either doesn’t believe that Amity could have a crush on her or is scared to make the wrong assumption and get rejected (which is again supported later). Luz’s Grom outfit is really fun!!! From what I can tell the general consensus is that the Tux and Tutu combo is either to be a bit of a symbol of her Bisexuality, or to show more prominently that fact that she is gender non-conforming.
I think this episode is the best that Amity has ever been written in this season. She has feelings for Luz, but she still has her snark and wit. There's romantic chemistry between the girls, but they're still great foils for each other. I still like the other Amity in subsequent episodes, but I felt that she lost some of her edge along the way.
I mean, most of that edge is her defense mechanism. She loses it because she feels safe and happy, and doesn't feel the need to lash out or push people away or put others down in order to feel good about herself
Yeah, I definitely miss Amity's edge from the early episodes. Unlike other people who may have taken a while to warm up to her, I liked her from the get-go. But losing her edge is a small price to pay for what we get down the line. I will say, I think one of the show's biggest flaws is taking characters who are rough around the edges and sanding them down too much to make them more likeable.
"Oh, whew, it's just a giant monster, not her actual mom" is not a sentiment that makes sense in many situations, but this is one of them! Also, what a roller coaster, bait-wise. OMG, Luz asked Amity to prom?! Oh, wait. "That's what friends do." Of course, Mr. Mouse, what was I thinking? Wait. Wait. What is this dance?! Pretty sure that's not what most friends do, girls. But... Luz still has no idea who Amity wanted to ask? So she didn't see it that way? But of course Amity wanted to ask Luz... and The Mouse actually lets us see that explicitly?!? At the end of the day, I come down on the side of, "They would not have crafted that dance scene so lovingly if it wasn't meant to be a romantic moment."
grom likely became about dating as like a response to the fear of Grom getting loose. Either you wanna cozy up to someone so if worst comes to worst you cna face it without regrets or at least not alone, or having someone at your side may be beleived to help protect you from grom's fear magic, or something else.
You looked absolutely stunning this episode. I cannot overstate how much you killed it in that dress. That's the kind of dress I hope to wear one day, finding one that fits me is difficult to say the least.
Dang girl, you slayed that look !!! Your hype for Lumity makes me so happy, your passion is contagious 😭 Its so cute you waited for Hooty before filming a new reaction 🥺 (You may or may not need him for comfort in a few episodes 👀)
When you see the animation style change like that, you KNOW something big is going down. They spared no expense when they felt they needed to hit the strong emotional story beats just right with the animation.
THE HOOTY SCARF-LIKE DECORATION FOR THE DRESS HELP- 12/10 18:00 Amity saving Luz :) but still i think its very sweet that Eda actually protects, as she said, "her kid". its gotten more frequent in media over time but it's always nice to see the kids not having to carry everything ^^ 18:50 considering Amity's family situation it is honestly kinda surprising (but also relieving ig) this was her biggest fear haha- 20:50 the shipping panic is so real haha 🎉
This reaction was 100% worth the wait! Ur outfit was stunning. Could anybody imagine where Amity's character will eventually end up after less then a season? I sure couldn't. But she and Luz r adorable, queens forever. But another highlight of this ep is Luz's relationship with her mom. I already brought up the importance of accepting ur reality in this show, and I'd say being responsible for ur decisions is just as big of a theme here. That's why Luz struggled with this, she initially had trouble with both. But I feel like she's much braver then she gives herself credit for. Overall this all just sucks, because the Boiling Isles have been such a great influence on Luz's life so far, but will her mom understand it? Luz isn't sure.
Omg you finally reached the episode where in my opinion the show gets picks up and the episodes get real good especially in season 2 also nice hooty plushy and dress😁😁😁😁😁😁
I love how the thought of Camilla actually being brought to the realm was a scarier concept to you than a monster assuming the form of her 🤣🤣 (P.S. you are rocking that outfit holy smokes!)
To this day, I don't know why Luz's mom didn't find it strange that the signature on the letters was misspelled. I guess she thought it was just a weird joke or something? But if someone, especially a family member, sent me a letter with their name spelled wrong, I'd be suuupppeerr suspicious.
First off, while I had a feeling you would dress up for this episode as per the comments suggestion/request/demand, I didn’t expect you to slay this hard! The Eda cosplay is perfect for you! Secondly, Luz and Amity is the beginning of one of the most defining things in Disney TVA history. You will enjoy it! ❤️
Ooh boy, now we start picking up the pace: say goodbye to the more “filler” episodes and just watch as the pacing ramps up exponentially into this masterpiece of an animated show
I love this episode! I remember this episode, on Disney Channel before it was taken down in favor for Disney +. This was where Lumity was born and I am glad this won GLAAD awards. My favorite episode of Season 1. 💜🏳🌈
The way the letters have Luz's name misspelled is a clever way to show how her name is actually pronounced. Despite the way it's said in the show, a lot of people don't seem to get that Z's are pronounced like S's in Spanish. Which is ironic because S's are often pronounced like Z's in English.
Me: I can’t wait to see what happens next!! I wonder who’s sending those letters? My brain: girl. You’ve seen this show already. You been in the fandom for years. YOU CRIED THE DAY THE FINALE EPISODE CAME OUT!! Me: shhh!
later down the line there's gonna be another scene with very smooth animation (even more than the dance in this episode) but for that one they didnt get budget, the animators just kept coming back to that scene whenever they got stuck on smth else
That dance of Luz and Amity had been the first thing I had seen when the episode aired and all my social media suddenly exploded. I had to watch the show after this.
