0:21 was my favourite. Always remember start up of Russ Abbott's Madhouse, Play Your Cards Right. Whenever LWT started at 5 15 meant the weekend has officially started. Loved the handover as well from Thames
I remember Friday nights, watching telly after school, and guess what? Telly was actually worth watching back then! It's utter horse shit now hence my presence on RU-vid.
Nobody's interested anymore. The ITV logo and the continuity are drivel. Even sky can't be bothered now. That awful sky one logo 2018. If they can't put any effort into introductions why do they expect anyone to watch the channels.
Not just idents, but regional programming. I grew up in several different itv regions. You could almost recognise from the type of programme which station had made it without seeing the frontcap. Wildlife was invariably Anglia, Hard hitting documentaries were Thames or Granada, Soaps could be from anywhere but were very regional. So it was easy to tell who they had come from.
Well of course later on Granada bought LWT as part of their then ITV buy up, along with Border, Tyne Tees, Yorkshire, Meridian; whilst Carlton bought Central, HTV Wales and West, Anglia. Later on Carlton and Granada as we know then merged to become ITV as such. Channel was added later as was Ulster-UTV; leaving Scottish STV who then bought Grampian; and ITV then bought GMTV. And there you have the state of affairs now then really I guess too?!
1:19 - for me as a 7 year old kid in 1992 this ident meant the weekend has finally arrived! Friday night, 5.15pm and it was LWT London Weekend Television. No school for a few days. Just fun!
ITV was the best when it was regional, just a chav channel now ( apart from the occasional drama series which they are trying to revive). I prefer it when the announcers say the name of the station in full rather than the letters though, LWT=The Gentle Touch, Upstairs Downstairs, London's Burning, Poirot, Second Thought's and its sequel, Faith In The Future with the late Lynda Bellingham{RIP} and Forever Green to name a few of the programmes they produced.
LWT THAMES and my own ATV all the seventies and early eighties ones make me want to burst out crying for some reason 😂. I had a really cushty upbringing and tele was always on.
@@jimbo6059 the old tv indents were excellent and quite imaginative back in the days. I always guessed that the indents would have names as they have to be produced, thanks for your reply. I also remember that Meridian and Central had some funky idents at the time.. 😉
@@jimbo6059 BBC sport in the mid 90s was a good dramatic ident. Was watching a football panel talk recently and they were referring back, so probably to give the program piece some style and reference they played that old ident, it brought me back to the time they were talking about to show the footage lol. Nice little bit of retro treat there😏😏
the lwt indent at 0.22 is the one i fondly remember from 6pm friday till whatever time on sunday you knew you was going to be entertained with the price is right , please sir , fenn street gang ,,,, and much more .. unlike nowdays tv at the weekend is crap
The last one here was the same fate for all the regions. Meridian tv also had a very dramatic Ident but was sadly lost to this wishy washy itv branding.
We're all here to see 0:13 and 0:21 aren't we? Even now it still feels a bit weird that Thames TV changed over to LWT on a Friday night. But don't even mention Carlton TV to me...
While this is lovely nostalgia, it does now make me wonder... why did London need weekend tv? I remember the handovers at 5.15 every Friday, but even then never quite got what was different about it as it was still ITV to me..
The London advertising market was so valuable that a week-round London ITV station would have had disproportionate influence over the network. (See how influential LWT was on only two and a half days a week!)
@@marnanel Thanks. That sounds understandable. They had the really big one off shows like the Audiences that would have brought in millions. Also thanks for giving me a response with the longest gap from the original post I've ever had on here. 7 years! I'd completely forgotten I'd ever asked the question... 😀
0:21 Classic (best ident music ever? 0:51 Classy (maybe a bit too classy for LWT!) 1:18 Stunning beauty at the beginning, ruined by OTT percussion at the end 1:30 Exceedingly clever and breathtaking the first time you see it, but waaaay too dramatic for an ident that was played over and over and over... 1:50 Zzzzzzzzz 1:59 Eh?
Does anyone know the date of the change from the early mustard-coloured version to the first of the tricolour ones (at 0:12-0:13)? I think the arrival of the latter must be one of my earliest TV memories.
