Radio Invicta featured on the LWT London Programme in 1982, starring Tony Johns and Steve Devonne.It explored the growth in alternative radio in particular London's original Soul station, Radio Invicta 92.4 FM, which started broadcasting in 1970.The programme is as oiginally broadcast by LWT, with thanks to Darren James for the original programme.

It took me a long time to get a copy of this show I had not seen since the Friday night it was first broadcast! It is a MUST see for all fans of pirate radio and is great to see Tony Johns and Steve Devonne two great dj's featured on the show.

The Soul music scene was massive in the UK at that time. Yet you never hear about it when they show retrospective programmes on TV. Its just Punk Punk and New Romantics. I wonder why....Hmmm.

bob rew It's down to what had the most impact, but also there are too many strands to keep track of. You had the post-punk scene, post-disco, the sixties revival, etc.

not true! black music had THE MOST impact during the 1970s and even today. NR was a very short-lived over-rated era by comparison. its unfortunate that journalists today do not research that period properly, and just choose to ignore the facts.

Steve Walsh knew what Soul was all about, Man you had to be there Radio Invicta "ROCKED" the house JJs was 600 deep in sweaty bodies and nobody wanted to go home, we were going to do a rematch, but things went South on us. JJ.

Invicta were great if you liked soul music. Tony Johns and Bob Tomalski were top men, both alas, no longer with us.
