LX Ranch: Chuck Wagon Breakfast 

It’s amazing to see a video in 2020 on RU-vid of my old man and his wagon. Thank you for bringing back all the memories of being under that fly. He and that wagon went to lots of places together. Going with him to the LX and to the chuckwagon cook off in Amarillo was some of the best times of my life.

the more i watch this video, the more I want to be a chuck wagon cook. i cooked for firemen for 28 years. its time to be a cowboy

This is a beautiful video. The cook might have done that a few times. Great star of the piece, the 1882 cookstove -- I grew up with a cast iron cookstove, and there is nothing like th heat and comfort those stoves throw out. Thank you.

All I can say is I'm watching this on a Fri. night about 11:30 pm. and by the time cookie was done I was starving. Good job and a good hot breakfast before the day starts.

Not sure how this came up in my feed, but I’m glad it did. Reading through the comments, I applaud your patience in answering the questions from people who have apparently never seen hard work before.

I did a project in a whole lot of communication sites surrounding this area. Remembered seeing the ranch. This was back in 2012. Took a picture of a mean old mule outside a site in Pampa...loved him....I use it as my picture on RU-vid when I want to be incognito. Outside the town of Muletree I crossed a couple of ranches to get to a remote site. When I got there a herd of black cattle with dark eyes surrounded the site. At one point I stepped out the site and their were at least 50 pairs of eyes focused on me like I was the massiah and was suppose to take them to the promised land. Perhaps I was the first black man they ever saw. There was some serious expectations in their eyes! They probably knew they were meat and not dairy cows. Gained a lot of appreciation for Family Dollar and Subway. I was all over West Texas even into southern OK. ...you learn to look out for tornadoes...this was right after one devastated Moore. Lived through the one that went through Wichita Falls in '79...that was enough for me! You learn to keep your gas tank topped off...just because your GPS said there was a gas station does not mean it's been operational for 50 plus years. At some sites ice would fall off the tower guy wires like javelins. They could land 100 feet away. Opening combination locks when it was cold out was harrowing to say the least. Passed horses out in the fields and felt sorry...nothing should be out there in that weather...but I was out there with them. Took pictures of the gate locks...interesting work of art for sure. This video took me back to my hunting days with my buddies in Arizona. Did not get up quite as early but sure loved cooking for them. Realized I was not there to hunt...still was very successful at it. They never knew what to expect because I loved cooking. I invited some folks over to breakfast once on the north rim of the Grand Canyon while on an archery hunt. They were from Boston and was amazed how snug and efficient our camp was. Those liberal thought they were getting instant coffee..NOT. Fresh ground whole bean. We entertained them for a few days. They were traveling cross country in a Datsun station wagon eating trail mix and food from a can warmed on a sterno....that's was some time in the early 90's. Desert was always a treat...my specialty was Granny Smith apples sauteed in brown sugar, butter and a little lime juice topped with toasted almonds. Nothing like seeing grown men perk up as I produced a can of whipped cream to top it off after four days of hunting. Here's to you Jim and Ernie....see you on the other side one day....I will be in a chuck wagon with clanging cast iron skillets.

You did a good job putting this together. I really appreciate the lack of dialog that shows that these guys know what they're doing without pointless yaking stating the obvious of what's going on. Nice job.

Would love the recipe for the biscuits. The chef uses such a light hand to roll and cut them up. They must of been light and fluffy. Hard to see the finished result or I missed it somehow. I know it’s hard work but everyone makes it looks so easy and enjoyable to be a working cowboy. Great videos.

This reminds me of my younger days at the sawmill my papa cooking diner for the hands. He made the best cakes in those old wood stoves.

I have eaten a lot of meals cooked on a wood stove. I clearly remember my mother in the kitchen in high summer frying chicken and making biscuits. I don't know how they stood the heat.

Any clue what brand or what you call that Dutch oven/covered skillet is? I have one like it with a 14 on the handle but I don't have a lid for it. Mine has a bump out on the bottom that looks like a flathead screw. I'd appreciate any help because I can't find a thing out about it.
