My style is completely different to yours, for one I love hats, and I’m a city girl. I don’t come here because we’re similar, I come here because you’re all the positive vibes. For someone who only wants to surround herself with positive things, you’re the only person I religiously watch because I know you’ll just be you (country grandmother and all) and it’s going to be like sitting down with a friend and having a chat. Thank you for the continuous good vibes x

Lydia, you really did inspire me to be me ❤ I was obsessed with becoming more elegant and had a certain idea about what elegance is and ended up losing myself in it. I grew up in the countryside and always wanted to leave as soon as possible because I thought that it was not the right place for a classy lady. You made me see that a country life can also be elegant and that I don't have to always be ultra feminine and elegant. Just a little hint of elegance in every outfit and everything that I do is enough. And now I have started writing about it on my own blog. Hoping to spread the same message 🥰 So, Thank you!

I want to say this as a fashion RU-vidr and lifestyle I have reached a point in my life where honestly fashion has become boring and repetitive I start asking myself is this me would I wear this in reality . I have reached a point where I want to be practical look for brands that are staying true to them and not being washed out by fast fashion . J used to aspire to buy a designer bag but now I think I get that same item in a high street store for less . I loved you talked about this and brought light to it so I am not the only feeling this way thanks Lydia for showing what growth looks like taking time looks like and restarting all over again looks like

While watching this video, I thought I don’t have a similar style to Lydia, but she really has inspired me to be more myself and to love what I love and to wear things, but things, and style things that feel like “me” I hadn’t really thought of it til I heard you say that was a hope of yours and I can honestly say, that’s exactly the way this channel has inspired me in my own life. as far as luxury bags. for 22 years I’ve collected bags and it’s been a passion but honestly tik tok ruined luxury fashion for me and it’s almost been a relief not trying to “keep up” with what is new. hugs to you!

I completely support your decisions to buy classic pieces, long lasting pieces but why do you then advertise fast fashion from Amazon and KM which is the diametric ethics? 🤨
@juliekonieczna
@juliekonieczna Год назад
Agree! Timeless pieces are not from polyester/polyamide and other similar fabrics and those are mostly advertised by Lydia. The argument that on Amazon is cheaper so it’s available to bigger group is an absurd. I’m buying very good quality of clothes and not for a fortune! What’s the most important they will serve me years, not season or two like polyester fabrics then to do.

I don’t think her point was that she won’t buy fast fashion, but instead that she is not driven by trends.
@juliekonieczna
@juliekonieczna Год назад
@@user-kl5js8zz6c Agree with you that it was her intention! However, I’m not talking about the video itself but my longer observation of some Lydia’s choices of fabrics and collaborations. I always check description box and clothes’ material composition that we could see in the video before buying. For example, KM pieces look stunning, they are just simply beautiful, elegant and very feminine but they are simply not worth the price, looking at the material composition of most of their pieces. I love Lydia, she is a true inspiration to me, and watching her growth for many years is amazing. Knowing her love to well crafted clothes, she could take an advantage and educate us on good fabrics and where to find not pricy pieces than rather blindly advertise polyester.

Bravo Lydia. In regards to fashion and the direction that it has taken over the past several years, I agree with you 100%. You don't have to live up to anyone else's expectations and buy into their hype. Dress to please yourself and be the person you were created to be. That's the person that Carrie was drawn to and wanted for her best friend. That's the woman that took Ali's breath away and made him fall head over heels in love. That's the person that inspires her subscribers to rise above their circumstances and live out their dreams. That's the Lydia we all know and love. God bless you and your beautiful family. 💕

Lydia, I love the chat about the fashion industry. As someone who has been to fashion design school one of the assignments they gave us was to go to department stores and compare garments amongst various price categories. It's amazing the amount of expensive designer garments that were lower quality than mid tier ones. This assignment was so much more eye opening to me than all of the other trendy over the top stuff they fed us. Being able to appreciate high quality garment construction over the name on a label should be championed above all else. And just as importantly with sustainability I believe that having a wardrobe that is more classic and timeless filled with high quality items you love is going to allow you to consume less, put together outfits easier and just genuinely enjoy fashion more deeply. There is a reason why the "classic french girl stye" is still the most coveted style to this day. Timeless wardrobes are chic, effortless and non pretentious. I've been around here for awhile and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your style evolution. I cant wait to see you discover new and different brands and continue to live your life authentically and most importantly for you.

Karen Millen has some classic statements. I have always loved their fashion. However, karen Millen has turned into fast fashion, especially since they do so many more collabarations. Especially for every season. Fast fashion has increased in the Past 5-6 years. Also in the make up industry. I. was recently in London and pretty much there was not so many unique things. Pretty much every brand is extremely similar to another brand. Nothing is very unique as it was in my younger years.

Timeless pieces which may be more expensive but last the test of time. I found in my early 30’s my style changed to a simpler style but with fabrics that make me feel good-ie. cashmere, silk, linen. Definitely agree I'm in my mid 30s and not into 90% of the trends. I too remember when fashion was very exclusive and classic, its why I fell in love with clothes because everything was so elevated, aspirational. Soooo many luxury influencers say they rather spend more on quality vs quantity, but at the same time EVERY NEW TREND, which feels like they come around at least twice a year, they buy new trends. How is that more sustainable if you're changing your entire wardrobe several times a year EVERY YEAR?!!!!

Very riveting listening to your view on luxury brands today. I’m a very big Dior customer, and I love a lot of what they do. However, I order specific pieces from them that are still super classic and timeless. I don’t buy the stuff that’s covered in their branding and 90% of the Dior I own you wouldn’t know it was Dior because it has no branding on it. I absolutely know what you mean though in that all of the luxury brands seem to have their beautiful things and then this whole array of stuff covered in branding for folks who feel like they need everyone to know that they are wearing something from that brand. It is sad for sure, but I guess all companies are trying to grab any dollar they can. I love your current style, and I find it inspiring to be confident in yourself and your style. I agree 100% with Lydia’s discussion on fashion at the moment. I’ve been LOVING what Balenciaga has been doing but it’s clear to see every brand is emulating their effect. I was dressing quite edgy for a while - Balenciaga, Korean fashion, oversized everything, my hair was bleached white … and noting how I was essentially adapting into a trend that also made me feel less mature and less sexy … I immediately sold and returned a slew of clothes, let me hair grow back out to brunette, I went back to my classic Gucci and Ferragamo shoes, I did some hauls at Banana Republic, J Crew, mens warehouse, Albert Clothing, and Margiela, and I now wear things to fit slim and my my confidence has been boosted. I feel I look so much more mature sophisticated sexy and I feel like a gentleman. I still have an edge with some of my piercings but my God I feel like I look so much more fashion forward !

Love your evolution Lydia, I have followed you for a long time now and it’s wonderful to see you so happy being you. Your honesty is very refreshing around fashion trends, stripping back skin care etc, you seem to be becoming more comfortable promoting products you genuinely love although I appreciate this platform is your business so there is a necessity to still generate income. You seem to be getting the balance right.

Lydia, always so grateful when you share your thoughts on this topic; i could chat about it for ages. As someone who has never had the budget for designer but has worked in fashion/retail for 12 years, wearing what makes me feel happy and confident has always been the motto (even when i dressed like a 16 year old skater boy 😂). There is so much trend-chasing that people have lost themselves. There’s also something to be said for living in the country and being focused on less materialistic things that drives this feeling. You’re less caught up in the rat race and comparison because you’re tending to the sausages and your garden (literally), and life has become more about quality than quantity. None of this is said to sound judgmental. Like you said, wear what makes you happy and be true to yourself! I hope you continue to share your thoughts on this topic, it’s so important and validating. ❤️

I’m not British, I’m from America but I’ve always been into high end fashion and you’ve definitely made me see it in a different light. I have noticed everything that you talked about with the Luxe Brands and it’s disappointing but it’s also a light that you’ve made go on in my head. I think your message is phenomenal and there’s nothing more positive that you can share than to be yourself! And I love the way you dress and it suits you beautifully xo Trina

I think I've touched on the Instagram comments from you before but it's worth mentioning again, I think. Instagram didn't start out as a platform for 'influencers'. It started out as a platform for photography. As mobile phone cameras evolved and video shooting became that of better quality, more and more people started posting video content and eventually RU-vidrs and bloggers made their way to IG and here we are. My Instagram feed used to be absolutely *filled* with beautiful photography but all I see now is video content and adverts from 'influencers'. TikTok is too rapid for me and I prefer watching video content on RU-vid (I don't like shorts as I think they probably are better suited for TikTok). In order for me to enjoy moving media, I need lengthier videos and so RU-vid is my preferred media for that. I *do* wish that Instagram would be an out-and-out platform for still photography again though. I think if people want to see video content, they'd seek it out - wherever it might be located. I did and born in the late 60's. It feels a little bit like 'influencers' feel like they need to be everywhere in order to advance themselves. And that's not always necessarily the case.

People forget Instagram changes when a new “it” app happens. They added stories when Snapchat was the “it” app and have now added reels since “TikTok” took over. I remember when Instagram tried to take ownership and copy-write of any photos posted on the app. That lasted all of a week before the backdown on that

@Claire Evans Speaking as a Swede living in the U.K. since 1998, the ‘influencer culture’ began much earlier and sooner back in Sweden and I think Lydia once mentioned this in one of her RU-vid videos a few years ago. I think they all started out as ‘bloggers’ but, and again, once mobile phone cameras evolved, so did that whole scene. I think as well as companies realising that there was money ( *big* money) to be made, ‘bloggers’ became targets as they saw a way to reach a younger audience and much quicker as well. With Instagram and their ‘stories’ function, everything is instant! And can you imagine bagging a contract with a huge online personality, often with followers in the hundreds and thousands, the amount of money that is to be made? This doesn’t anger me, far from it. Big ‘influencers’ are often younger women who earn life-changing opportunities and often go on becoming authors, designers, photographers, etc. etc. and so on and so forth. And why shouldn’t they? I wish Instagram and social media had been big when I was in my late teens and early twenties as I might have been able to fight myself into the world of journalism and/or photography. I just really wish that there was a way for Instagram to go back to what it was and leave RU-vid and TikTok for moving media. Really bad advertising and these ‘Suggested’ videos are truly awful and ruin the whole experience.
Год назад
@Claire Evans I’m a daily RU-vid user as well as Instagram. I have TikTok downloaded (I might look at it once a month) and I keep in touch with family back home over Facebook but that’s as far as it goes for me. I just need to add as well, though, that I think that this was one of the best videos from Lydia that I have seen in absolute ages. Fashion isn’t timeless - style is. And once you’ve found your own style, you truly find yourself and what makes you happy. I’ve never owned a high end handbag or high end clothing in general but that hasn’t made me an unhappy person. Quite the opposite, I found my style very early in life and, apart from needing a bigger size, kept to the same style for almost 40 years.

You know what I hate about Instagram? Suggested posts. I didn't ask for them, and it ends up burying all of the lovely content from people I actually follow (yourself included). I wish there was a way to opt out (or opt in if that's your jam) and to be able to see what I truly want to see, instead of all this nonsense that is clearly not tailored to my interests.

I also think that you, along with a few other British RU-vidrs, are really starting to bring back that old British vibe, in the states, they call it old money vibe, but that almost sounds so throwaway and trendy. There will always be that classic timeless style that I’m always after! And things like that don’t have to be splattered with monograms from high-end stores!

I totally agree with you in regards to how luxury is changing. It’s sort of becoming very “fast fashion” and unfortunately things are not made to last anymore, that goes with everything from tech, to home ware, to designer items. It feels like you’re not getting the quality that you pay for anymore.

You’ve entirely missed the point of her collections then. They are classics and therefore not fast fashion trends (trends being the operative word there) and the price point is perfect for an inbetween high end luxury and typical high street to ensure as many people as possible are able to access a well thought out timeless wardrobe that will sustain them for years to come. As such, not fast fashion.

Dear Lydia, I have been following you for years now and recently of course I have noticed a change in your style but actually it’s the same change everybody experiences, only it is your kind of fashion. I have really appreciated this blog with the Carrie-Paris situation which reminds me a bit of pre-Covid. Either way, the real reason why I am writing this comment is for your honest talk about fast, fashion and luxury. This was really inspiring! It is true that also the big design brands are going a more street style and fast fashion way but I believe that is more linked also to our fast paced life. Maybe living in the countryside slows everything down a bit... so you remain inspiring - only from another point of view than earlier!

What a great video - I was feeling exactly the same thing and thought that I must be really "off" in my thinking! But now I see that there are lots of others who share the same thoughts, thanks to you. I used to love the classic luxury brands, but now when I watch fashion week, it's completely different. I guess it gives us a chance to really be who we are and not feel we have to follow any brands or trends, but rather wear what we love and feel fabulous in, and that will be our very own ever-evolving trend.

I agree with you Lydia. They have put aside elegance to give way to a relaxed style that sometimes seems vulgar. Or dressed to go to a tailgating or a football or basketball game. They adorn them with glitter and believe to make them look elegant. That's why I admire and applaud Ralph Lauren. It will never compromise his brand. It will always be elegant whether for formal or sporting occasions. His brand will always be classic and immortal. And you always look so classy lady, with the most beautiful and lady like clothing.

I completely agree. So what if people want to stick to the trends and want to invest in a piece made of high quality materials. Shes constantly purchasing an absurd amount of poorly made clothing (Amazon, Nasty Gal etc) and I’m pretty sure you’ll never even see some of the pieces once. THATS fast fashion at its finest.
