I often ask myself why I am not sitting in a library, in a old gothic house with a spiral staircase and ladders to reach the top shelves in a black turtleneck reading about god and goddess in the dark with only a single flickering candle dripping wax onto the aged wooden desk I’m sitting at to illuminate my surroundings even though it’s the 21st century right now.

I'm greek and this playlist is stunning, it makes me feel like i'm walking down the roads of Ancient Greece. So proud of my country and our history. Thanks for giving me this remembrance! Here is the poem "Axion esti" ( "Worthy it is") , Genesis III , from Odysseus Elytis (greek poet/nobelist) that praises Greece : "Then he spoke and the sea was born and I gazed at upon it and marvelled In its heart he sowed little worlds in my image and likeness Horses of stone with manes erect and tranquil amphorae and the slanting backs of dolphins Ios, Sikinos, Serifos, Milos “Each word a winged swallow to bring you spring in the midst of summer” he said Αnd ample the olive trees to sift the light through their fingers that it may spread gently over your sleep and ample the cicadas which you will feel no more than you feel the pulse inside your wrist But scarce the water so that you hold it a God and understand the meaning of its voice And the tree alone no flock beneath it so that you take it for a friend and know its precious name Sparse the earth beneath your feet so that you have no room to spread your roots and keep reaching down in depth and broad the sky above so that you read the infinite on your own THIS WORLD This small, this great world!" also Mikis Theodorakis one of the greatest greek composers set music to not only this poem but to the whole project "Axion esti", here's the link : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YEdeJav1bOM.html

Oh, sweet Adonis, Lay beside me Beneath the swaying stars As sunlight falls under And leaves us cold- Cold like your skin Upon my own. Sweet Adonis, How swift a broken love Can destroy these temples we swore To offer scarfices to: I find your blood sprayed Across white petals and somehow, We are no longer pure; Perhaps this love Never was. My love, we are beautifully Forsaken by the stars. My reddest anemone: We fall down like the tears Of our own sorrows; I have learnt to drown Without fear. My sweet Adonis, lay beside me As we perish beneath Immoral gods. **A little poem I've been working on :) this playlist inspired me to finally finish it!!

There might be a lot of people around you: excited tourists, curious students, people escaping from everyday life... But as you sit there on the hard ground, leaning on a rock that was (in an era long past) part of the once majestic temple you're looking at, a vision that only you can see unfolds before you. You see the dry grass turn green and the ruins being restored by some invisible architect; it's a reverse time lapse of long millenia. As you let yourself fall into the spell of ancient mythological beings, that remote corner of your mind that still fights to hang on to reason looks back to your forgotten lunch, and you hear the echoes of your best friend's words that morning just before you left her house, when -pointing at you with her cigarette- she mockingly warned you, "Be careful, darling. Stay out of the sun, out of trouble… and out of your mind, like always." But that memory gets rapidly foggier (not from the smoke), and in one last attempt to snap back to reality -whatever that is- you mutter, "Dehydration I suppose." But you're there. Alone, all of a sudden. And even though there are no people around you, you hear whispers. "What are they saying?" You slowly turn around, looking for the source of those whispers, but before you can find it something makes you gasp in surprise. People in strange clothes that you've only seen in movies appear out of nowhere, walking towards the temple. With your eyes wide open you walk slowly towards them, but before you can reach them, more people with the same type of clothes appear at some distance: a family, it seems, escaping the sun's heat under a tree. Startled, you retreat a few steps and gaze somewhere else, and there, a bit farther off, what looks like a market suddenly emerges. Every time you venture to blink, more and more people that Time buried in anonymity appear before your eyes. And all the while, those wordless whispers surround you like the breeze. This is more than you can take. You don't know what's going on, and you start running, as if that could help you escape from all this, but you really don't know if you're running away from or towards insanity, because with every step you take the scene becomes more crowded and more vivid. The colors, the scents, and the sounds feel more real than reality ever did. The people stare as you pass by, and you answer at the top of your voice to their questioning looks, (ironically, in a language they don't understand) "What are you looking at! Do you think you can just stare at me like that? You're all dead! You’re a dream! A shadow! You are just an illusion! In just a blink of Chronos' eyes you will all be no more than dust! No more than lost whispers! The echoes of lost whispers in the wind!" The soft breeze had been blowing stronger and stronger while you ran, until at that moment thunder rumbles. You stop. And you realize. You take one last look at the storm clouds, (for a moment you thought you saw someone there), and the people in the distance, just as you’re slipping back to the present. "What was that?" someone asks you, and when you don't answer the stranger goes on. "Oh, sorry, I thought I heard you say something about illusions or echoes... really poetic stuff. But it was probably just this insane heat messing with my head," the person adds laughing before walking away. "No, I didn't say anything. It was probably just a breeze passing through the trees." You stop to listen, as if to make sure of what you just said, and strangely you hear familiar whispers in the wind. And you can finally understand. They are voices of the past, singing ancient songs that now only the wind remembers. Melancholy hits you in a way that you’ve never felt before. Because the memories flood, thinking of this lost civilization in its climax, and you realize that they never thought of themselves as a future lost civilization. You finally pay attention to the people around you. A falling leaf caresses your cheek as if it were trying to comfort you. And in a whisper you ask the wind, "When will I join you?"

Crumbling pillars. Destroyed ceilings. The stones that had once proudly stood in my mother's name were now scattered all around the decrepit frame of her temple. The old olive trees stood guard to the deteriorating structure I had once called my home, aged with knots and scarred branches. I walked up to the trees, brushing my hand against an old trunk. "I'm back," I whispered, and their leaves swayed in the still air in welcome. I stepped through the grove, the sagging branches skimming my cheeks as they did when they were younger, murmuring their greetings. "Welcome, child of Athena," they sighed. "Welcome home." I climbed the stairs into the temple, the once-flawless stone now cracked with age. The sun's setting rays reached between the pillars to no avail as Helios pulled further away across the great expanse of the sky, and before long, I was once again immersed in the familiar darkness, bathed in the cool twilight breeze and moonlight of my youth, all those eons ago. It was time. I lay on the cool and fractured stone with slow, measured breaths, sinking into its timeless steadiness. Through the space where the ceiling once proudly stood, the stars painted the figures of Orion and Pegasus, dancing across the night sky in the soft glow of Artemis's moon. I closed my eyes, letting out a single breath. Images flashed in the darkness behind my eyelids. Golden fields, groves of young olive trees heavy with fruit, the salty spray of an incoming ocean tide. Nymphs splashing in sparkling streams, dryads giggling amongst the dancing trees, satyrs with panflutes at their lips. A bright, bright white light... I opened my eyes, dazzled by the brilliant glow. "Welcome home, child," my mother's voice rang out, echoed by the clouds surrounding Mount Olympus. "Welcome home." [ www.wattpad.com/user/sunnieno ]

You can feel it. The heartbeat thrumming throughout the world, humming just low enough to go unnoticed. Unless, of course, you knew what you were looking for. You sit with your hands wound around the stems of vibrant wildflowers, watching the sun rise over the ruins of the great temples. Somewhere deep within you, you can feel something surging. A soft smile settles upon your lips as you feel that heartbeat growing stronger. The whole world knows it's coming. Most just didn't know why they're on edge. But you and a select few others know the truth. The sun warms your face as you start to laugh, letting the joy run out of you for the first time in years. _The Old Gods are coming home._

Marble ruins are scattered throughout the tall grass, the stone like pale hands extended towards the heavens. You are lying where great temples with marble columns that scraped the clouds once stood, where long since forgotten gods were worshiped. You are lying where a grand market's stalls once spilled throughout the streets, where families who will not be remembered played and lived and died and fought and talked and loved. The sun hits your face, hot and scorching, burning with the ferocity and life that once crackled through the bones of this land. There is something bittersweet about the beauty around you. Something melancholically peaceful about lying in the ashes of something once great, something wistfully elegant to bathing in the past glory brought about by long dead rulers. And there is an odd comfort to knowing that the memory of you will one day be reduced to the whispers between stone and rubble.

You stare down at them, at all the ones that'd cursed you into this ethereal body, into this ethereal place... ... and you loved them for it. But you hated them the very same. They casted you out... ... _they put you to shame._ You stare up at the dark, spiky icicles that line the top of your realm, as if you could stare past it and at God's sparkling glass throne. The god of them all... ... even Zeus himself. Thought Hades was the keeper of the Underworld, he was a mere gatekeeper to you. To your Hell. ... _to where they_ all _may end up._ Claws that weren't yours - they couldn't _possibly_ be - scratched at the rocky cave wall, tracing old symbols and worn recallings of a past long gone. You tapped once on the wall, hearing the pang of the echo miles before it actually hit you. _Ethereal indeed._ Silence was your best friend, as was blood and merciless evil. But one day, one time... you would get your revenge. _You only had to wait a little longer._

You walk towards the cracked pillar, half of it missing from it. You feel a sense of calmness and peacefulness as your hand runs over the etchings on it. Despite not knowing the ancient language, your mind seems to be able to understand the intention of the words. You shake your head and continues to walk deeper in the ruins. As you continue on, you notice how the scattered pieces of the marble floor is almost buried by the grass. Yet, you can imagine how decorated the floor once was at its prime. As your mind begin to picture the drawings and engravings of the floor, a faint sound of music starts to flow in your ears. You could feel yourself sway to the music. However, the moment you notice it, the music disappears. The sun warms your body as you begin to question the ruin. Suddenly, the stone at the middle of the ruins attracts your attention. You start to walk towards and without thinking about it, you sit on the flat surface of it. Suddenly, different scenes start to fill your mind. You suddenly see tall statues supporting the ceiling, people dancing as the music thunders through the halls, walls carved with stories, citizens bowing at you, a baby in a crib, two hands cupping yours, tears dripping on the floor, ashes and fire covering a city, a dagger in your hand, and the feeling of lips on yours before darkness covers your sight. With sudden urgency, you open your eyes and gasp at what you saw. Before you could leave, you feel a pressure on your hand. You look up and gaze at a set of an oddly familiar pair of eyes before something breaks your attention. "Hi, have we met before?"

I felt the warm sun on my face. I opened my eyes, next to me lied my best friend and around us were ruins and trees. If you stand up, you could see the sea. It had a wonderful colour of blue. No worries, no fear. I wore a long white dress with a bit of gold on my hair. I could have cried of happiness. Everything was perfect. I just imagine your most beautiful dream, it was just like that. I sat on the hill with my best friend watching the sunset. I put my head on her shoulder and smiled. "Do not worry." She said. I closed my eyes and responded: "Why should I worry?" She didn't replied. We sat there for a long time, my head on her shoulder, her head against mine. The sun was slowly going down. "I will always be there for you." She whispered, "always. Even if you don't see me." I didn't know what she meant but I said: " I will too."I slowly fell to sleep. I didn't worry. She was with me. But during the night, I started asking myself questions like How did we came here? Why are we in Greece? And then I heard noises and I saw lights and people. "Oh lord, she's awake!" That was my mum. I turned my head but it hurt a bit. My mum hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "What happened? Where am I?! Where are the sea and Lou?! " My mum looked at me sorry. A doctor came to bed. "You're in a hospital miss. You had an accident. Two weeks ago. " That couldn't be! I was in Greece this night! "Where... Where is Lou?" I asked. tears appeared in the eyes of my mum. "She had the accident with you. She... She died" She sobbed. I started to cry. " But I was with her these last days," I said. "No honey...She died two weeks ago. 5:05 despite the trouble it's gone through, the stone wall, full of cracks and dents, refused to fall. the broken buildings stuck in frozen time, memories of when flowers blossomed and the river rippled like rainwater, and when the streets, now crowded with the remnants of rubble and broken shards of the lost civilization, used to be crowded instead with people leading different lives. the shadows that were once lit up from the searing heat of the sun shining down upon them, were now encased with wild beasts and overgrown weeds. the only living things being the pests dwelling between the cracks of suffered sanity. war had taken place there, obvious by the way the air was forever scorched with the scent of loss, misguidance, suffering, and death. the broken shards of peoples' remains lay beneath the dirt, dusted over with rusted metal. and amidst the lost remains of metal and weeds, of dirt and of shadows, of crumbled walls and suffered sanity, stood a great statue. frozen in time, forever staring at a place once-prosperous of life, forever longing to return to the days when its people stood beneath it and sang of its imagined glory. When they looked up at it with pride. When it heard the echoed whispers of its tales being told from one to another, and it missed the moment in the middle of the night when the torches would be put out and all lay in bed-- dreaming of its wondrous adventures when the crickets came out to lull its people to sleep and they felt the blanket of security be placed around them. but never again shall it feel the warmth of what is now lost. it had failed them and for such actions should be punished-- by staring eternally at the destruction before it. frozen tears forever rested upon its cheeks.

POV I laid in the ruins of my favourite temple and tossed my things aside. "I thought I would find you here," Athena said. The goddess of wisdom had been appearing to me for the past few days. "Yes, ma'am. I just wished you would tell me why you're here!" I cried out, sitting up on the white pillar. "You should know that by now, my dear," She sat next to me on a broken pillar, and set her slender, cool, hand on my arm. "But I don't! I don't know, and it's driving me crazy!" I screamed at her, abandoning all pretense of politeness. "You are my child!" She laughed easily. I was speechless. How could I be her child? I wasn't smart, or wise. I couldn't possibly be her child. "What!" She said, easing herself onto her elbows. "Is it that hard to believe?" "No, well, yes! I'm just nothing like you, I'm not smart, or wise." I said with downcast eyes. "You are everything like your father, and as crafty as both of us. Do you not love history?" I nodded, curious. "There. Wise." "Oh," I said, surprised. "I just wished that you could have known sooner, my dear, but your father asked me not to tell you until he died. And here we are. Are you alright?" She asked, catching me as I fell. I grunted and passed out. When I opened my eyes, it was all a dream, all but the fact that I was in her ruins. The fact that my father was dead. The fact that I would never know what to do. I was unwise, but I knew that she had truly been there in my dream. I knew it was true. This possibility scared me more than life itself. More than death. More than fear.

A warm wind blows, mixing salty sea air with the scent of freshly bloomed hyacinth. Starlight sparkles from above, their light growing faint as wispy clouds slowly make their way across the darkening sky. At the foot of the hill below, merchants are packing up for the night, snuffing their lanterns and packing their wares - if you concentrate, you can just barely pick out a hint of their exotic spices in the air. You stretch, your upper limbs shaking, reaching toward Diana-in-the-Moon, and your lower limbs grasping deep into the fertile soil. The workers on the next hill over are working tirelessly to build a temple. Their picks and hammers ring out unceasingly, day and night. If only they knew. The gods don't need or want or care about fancy buildings or elaborate frescoes. They care about the earth. They care about the sea. They care about the fawn and the wolf, the hare and the fox. Centuries later, the temple, the merchants, and the hyacinth are gone. Replaced with more buildings and more people, the velvet grass now hard concrete, the field of hyacinth a bleak parking garage. You alone remain: a lone cypress tree, standing on a hill, waiting for the day when things will return to the earth.

That first photo, the statue of Apollo and Daphne, is one of the most beautiful things I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. It's in the Galleria Borghese in Rome and seeing it up close really made me appreciate just how amazing artists are, especially artists who make marble sculptures (I took a marble carving class in Greece, it is HARD).

_Short povv- how you enjoy itt_ _Wattpad: @Arcane-Sonder_ A dense coat of dust brushed over the scene before you as you slowly made your way through, arms wrapped around yourself in a poor attempt to stay warm. Your torn wings hung uncooperatively from your back, dragging the gutter of the ground with you with every step. All that remained from the once beautiful city, were ruins… Broken down structures, and bodies, scattered across the remains of a glorious place. Your heart sank to your stomach at the thought of what might’ve happened to him. It felt selfish to only care about one person with all this misery around you, but you couldn’t help it. All you wanted was to make sure he was safe… or at least that he survived… You called out his name, your voice failing you with every scream but it didn’t stop you from trying again and again. Tears clouded your vision but you quickly wiped them away, continuing through the ruins until finally catching sight of something familiar. Golden robes, the kind only he wore. A gasp escaped you and you ran, ignoring the agonizing burn from your wings and the ache of your bare feet hitting the uneven rubble. You ran, until reaching the body and you knelt down next to it. Or more appropriately… him. The once bright glowing aura which usually surrounded him, completely absent, leaving behind an empty pale over his body. You brushed the dark locks away from his face revealing the lifeless tranquillity of an expression. Your breath caught in your throat, your hands trembling as they lingered on his cold cheeks, no longer able to feel his warmth. “No… No… Helios…” you choked up on your words, barely able to even say his name. With a slight struggle and all your strength, you held him up, just enough to be able to embrace him, resting your head against his chest as the tears began pouring from your eyes, landing on the torn golden garments he wore. It was almost as if the sky shared in your sorrow, casting dark shadows over the world, leaving it dark, cold, and lonely… just you and your dead lover.

As I lay in the ruins of Greece, I could see the gateway to heaven, angels preparing to take me to their world. " But I can't give up! No. I'll resist, resist, resis..... My soul was ready to leave. I was never able to forgive the ruthless creature that did this to my fellow citizens and me. "Never will I forgive the monster that caused this painful death, I...I will....". All that was left were mere corpses. ☠️💀 RIP
