Damn straight, Johnny Cash deserved to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! With such classics as Cry, Cry, Cry, Big River, Folsom Prison Blues, Ballad of a Teenage Queen, A Boy Named Sue, Get Rhythm, The Man in Black, I Walk the Line, Luther's Boogie, One Piece at a Time, San Quentin, Tennessee Flat Top Box; Johnny Cash was as much a part of Rock & Roll as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Sam Phillips, Bob Dylan, Dewey Phillips, Buddy Holly, Creedance Clearwater Revival, and Allman Brothers Band.

There is nobody on this planet that has a legitimate argument that Johnny Cash should not be in the RRHOF. This guys had more hits, over a larger time span than just about anyone. I didn't REALLY get into Johnny Cash until 4-5 years ago, but finding his music has been a blessing for my soul. RIP Johnny Cash. Legends never die!
Its a rare thing to see and hear a true legend speak. A lot of people will never appreciate just what this man did for music. They will never appreciate just how much he contributed to the music that they listen to today.

His collaboration after thiscinduction into the RRHOF with Rick Rubin was mind blowing. What a come back with one of the purest music ever been recorded.
@@glenndrexler1677 He was one of the pioneers of the sound that would evolve into Rock and Roll. His early stuff wasn't the traditional country music of the day. He was doing something new. He helped give birth to the sound Rock and Roll.

Mentioning Sister Rosetta Tharpe made my day. I looked her up years ago and SHE was part of the foundation of rock and roll via gospel because her guitar playing and thumping the strings like Robert Johnson and others literally WAS the bass line of all of future rock and roll. Without those early black blues musicians, there would be no Chuck Berry and Little Richard and ultimately Elvis Presley. Johnny Cash blurred those lines from old blues, to Hank Sr. to his own style of rockabilly country like Carl Perkins Jerry Lee, The Big O and anyone who ever walked into that little studio in Memphis in the 1950's. God bless and keep them all . If you want to know a different side of how it all began, check out the documentary on Muscle Shoals recording studio which was the brother to Sam Phillips. What a legacy they have given us musicians from now on.
Johnny Cash is one of the most influential and impactful artists in the history of Rock and Roll, without Johnny the history of music wouldn’t of been the same. Greatly love, forever admire, and greatly miss you Mr. Cash. God bless you sir.
The crowd gives Johnny a pretty tepid welcome here...and it seems like Johnny is reacting to the criticism from others that perhaps he doesn't belong in the RRHOF. At this point in his career, most viewed Johnny Cash as washed-up, with little left to give...and he was essentially without a record label to support him at this point. Little did people realize that the following year, Cash would re-invigorate his career with his partnership with Rick Rubin and release a string of fantastic albums that have come to make him a musical hero to a whole new generation of fans. Today, nobody would dare question whether Johnny belongs in the RRHOF.
mjanovec I don't know if the crowd does. They're being respectful and this was before the inductions became media circus events. I think it was hypocritical of people to complain about him entering the HOF when his contemporaries who were just as much country-western as he was - Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. - were already in. Cash impact on rock was immense and he had every right be in there, even if his career had ended in 1958 when he left Sun. I agree with the irony of the timing considering that only a year later he would begin recording with Rick Rubin and reinvent himself for the final act of his play.
I wouldnt say a tepid welcome, it looks to me like it was a very respectfull welcome. A calm applause and a standing ovation. after all, he is not a rock band with screaming fans. he is a classy artist. just my opinion
There will never be another Johnny Cash....a true Renaissance man. He did it all. But every time he spoke i wanted to hear what he said ...he was so influential to me.. and a very spiritual and humble man. Really Really miss him.

What a lot of people don't understand is Johnny,Jerry Lee, and Elvis are the Forefathers of Rock. They were the first to do it they laid the groundwork for what Rock was then and is today and Sam Phillips gave them the platform to express their music.
It breaks my heart to hear a man of his standards a true man's man feel and you can definitely tell that he feels like he didn't not belong or qualified to be in the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame I truly believe that through his hard life of ups and downs that there isn't any of these so called rock and rollers that could hold a candle to Mr. Cash today. Is early influences were just as much influences as the stones the who Springsteen U2 once again always going back to the blues in the early days as he said race music it's funny that the crowd really seems lukewarm. If this award was given next year the ticket prices would be 10,000 a piece and they would blow the doors off the place to get in.

Hell, Johnny's SO much better than ALL of 'em in today's formulaic, pathetic C&W "sing with a southern accent" scene. Smh. The Beatles music naturally erased their British accents most of the time - there's no need for it in C&W, just sing like an American - like the great Johnny Cash!

I was lucky enough to see him and the Tenn.Two perform up close at a music industry event. He had a face that belongs on Mount Rushmore. "Not rock and roll?" Who could believe such a thing? More than anyone else in American music, he was all American music.
What a nice, unassuming, kind and celestially talented man! Most of these people didn’t deserve to be here. They should have invited all his fans and friends…it would have been standing room only and the standing ovation would have gone on for so long they would have had to shut the place down!! If that night did nothing else, it should have sent him home with his heart bursting with pride and thankfulness. If it didn’t, then shame on those people there!.! I thank God that he was here in my lifetime. Bless you Johnny, and your loved ones.
You all have to remember this was before his resurgence with Rick Rubin and The American Recordings this was 1992. He was in many ways a long forgotten washed up old country star in the eyes of many young people, many of which had no idea why he would EVER be inducted into the Rock hall. I'm a HUGE Cash fan and I know his greatness, I'm just trying to give context to all the people saying "The Audience should do better!" For a long while there from the 80's into the mid 90's Johnny Cash was an old timer and a has been. People forget. Rick Rubin and the American Recordings revived him, but this was before that. People unfortunately have short memories in general.
Dont forget Johnny was the first to come up for the idea for blue suede shoes which is one of the first as we know it big rock n roll songs ever he deserves it.
Yes Carl Perkins wrote Blue Suede Shoes but the idea and subject for the song were given to Carl by Johnny Cash - Carl publicly admitted this and gave credit to Johnny during the 1977 TV tribute performance hosted by Johnny Cash (where Johnny, Carl, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis sang a tribute to Elvis, who had died earlier that year).
It is like this guy when my dad took me to see him live and when he plays cocaine blues and a boy named sue he became my hero for a while all back suits what took me Then the Beatles and Stones and Zeppelin and I forgot about this guy but every time My dad put it on I was so not into moments yet but I wont forget it ever again.

Will someone please explain how RICK HALL, who started the great FAME Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL and had a hand in literally hundreds of historic Rock 'N Roll recordings, is not in the RRHOF? AND - how is it that JOE COCKER isn't in the RRHOF?
I was blessed to he born in Baptists Hospital (even though I'm a religious Jew) which is now called Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, while Johnny Cash was dying there. I love his music so so much, what a great guy
That's strange that Johnny did not mention any thanks to Luther Perkins or Marshal Grant. They made up a very large part of the Johnny Cash sound. People like them and Scotty Moore get very little praise when it was those guys who really made Rock and Roll come of age.
I reckon I read somewhere that during the early '90s Grant and Cash had some rough arguments, which led to Cash ultimately firing Grant. If you've seen other '90s performances, Marshall Grant is replaced by a man named Dave Roe. Before presenting the song I Walk the Line during a live show in 1994 (it's up on youtube), Cash says; "So it was Bob Wooten on lead guitar, Dave Roe upright base. Here's us in 1955". We all know that simply isn't true. It was of course Luther Perkins on lead guitar and Marshall Grant on upright base. They were part of the original band "The Tennessee Two". I think this is the very reason that Johnny never mentioned Luther Perkins or Marshall Grant here. However, there is a live Farewell Concert from 1999 up on RU-vid, in which Marshall Grant is once again playing with Johnny, and at the end of the show he gets credit from Johnny. They ended as friends.
How does LL get in to the Hall before Johnny? Easy-LL and other modern performers have Austin City Limits and cable TV to help with an instant reputation, instead of playing dives and county fairs to make a few bucks and hope to catch a break. At least Johnny made it in, many won't. The discussion of should a performer be in the CM or R&R HOF or both is amusing to me because I'm old enough to remember when old time country music fans rejected what are now classic C&W stars as not being C&W. R&R and C&W come from the same roots. Some groups are claimed by both, some are not.
