Lyman wasn't the first to have a turret head, Back in the day many smaller companies had offered turret head presses, However, those companies went the way of the dinosaurs because there couldn't compete in business. So, Here is the thing that Lyman discovered, On their earlier presses they had a problem making the point where the turret attaches to the press developing slop and alignment play, The press is capable of developing Tons of pressure and the pinion bolts could not handle that. Redding though made a breakthrough and salved that problem with new heat treating and different alloyed steel. That is what made the Redding so popular over all the others. However, Now Lyman has done that same thing, so the Redding isn't the Boss anymore. I believe for the price and new quality of Lyman it is the better product to buy. Unless you Like Green. Good review KFW.

So.... You reload the 7.5 X 55. That is an awesome cartridge, The rifles are of extraordinary build quality. I have a K-31 and love it. a good powder is H4320 or IMR 4320, although I do not know id Hogdons is still available. anyway, Sub MOA is of the norm with proper Load development, also If you can get Berdan Primers the Military brass is reloadable and in also quality stuff. I wish that PMC or Wolf would start import one again. The GP11 ammo is awesome as well. Dave.

I have reloaded some for it. I tried converting the gp11 brass to boxer, but had mixed results. I love the k31, quality is excellent. Unfortunately the price has caught up with the quality or I would buy anothet one. Loading the 7.5 swiss is still an ongoing project for me, thanks again for the info.

I started reloading on my grandfather's old Lyman Spartan single-stage press so, I had expectations when I ordered the All-American 8. I agree with your comments regarding the priming function! I went back to the single-stage Spartan for priming. The multiple die stations are very convenient, and if you stay focused, you can reload 9mm or 45ACP quickly (once the primers are already set in the brass!) Q: Have you considered buying something like a 3/16"sheet of steel to reinforce your loading table? Your press moving up and down is wasted energy......

I have been interested in purchasing one of these for bullet pullers, powder drops and de-primers and maybe resize occasionally. From what I have seen of the primer system I would just not install it and still go with a stand alone hand primer or bench primer. I do most my reloading on my Dillon 550B but I often use another press for the other functions, bullet pulling and de-priming etc. There seems to always be some glitches in priming systems in any press. Using stand alone primer systems makes more sense even with the Dillon. I often use it for just a two or three of the functions progressively.

Today 48 years later I still have that RED All American TURRET Press, and guess what it still looks and functions like new. It Is built like a tank and despite what you read on the internet ,if properly taken care of and occasionally taken down and cleaned, lubricated and adjusted you will have a finely tuned Lyman press without any alignment issiues. I like the look of this press, but I agree with you about the priming system. I think I'd remove it unless I was going to just use it to prime a batch. You also mentioned a few spent primers missed the basket and ended up on the floor. Did they spill out of the front of the ram where the priming arm cutout is, or did they just miss the basket after they exited the press underneath? Otherwise, good review and hope to see more videos of you reloading on your new Lyman turret press!

Wow, that is a hard question. I love the Lee classic 4 hole turret. I guess it would depend on what you were reloading for. If you shoot a lot of pistol and want to reload a lot of ammo, the the Lee turret. If you mainly do rifle or precision then the Lyman 8. You can't go wrong with either one, I love both of them.
@jerrymorales6501

@@kyfirearms Thanks for the recommendation. I'll mainly be doing revolver 38/357 & 44sp/44m. I've seen many reviews on the Lee Turret and it is cheaper, but the Lyman 8 looks extremely durable. The one main complaint on the Lee is the powder. Some users have complained about the Lee powder leaking and not being exact. On the plus side, the Lee turret does automatically turn the turret, while the Lyman 8 requires manual rotation. The Lyman 8 is on sale at MidwayUSA as a kit, but still ~100 more than the Lee turret.

@kyfirearms
@kyfirearms 3 года назад
I am not a fan of that priming system because it gets in the way and blocks the front of the press. I like the priming system on my Lee turret and often use it to size and prime brass to load on the Lyman 8. I mainly got the Lyman for big rifle reloading like 30-06 and to try and get more precision from my rifle ammo. With hand priming you can adjust the seating depth of the primers easier. It's a lot of personal preference. If you're new to reloading then priming on the Lyman 8 would probably be fine for you. Hope that answers your questions.

I prefer a single stage press with the Hornady L-N-L quick change die bushing. This way I do not need a turret press because I can easily swap dies back and forth within seconds. Yet, I am way too OCD for a progressive press and their sloppier tolerances. I opted for the Buchanan Precision Machine hand press with the Hornady L-N-L quick change die bushing, so I can reload on the go. I can easily reload at the reloading bench, kitchen table, coffee table, tv tray, or a park bench, as well as on the tailgate, or on my lap in a lazy boy chair, or sitting on a log out by the camp fire. Hell, I think I might just make a video of me reloading while sitting in a little red wagon or perhaps a wheel barrel for that matter. Any way I run it with a Lyman Universal Decapping die, Redding Non Carbide Resizing die, Redding Competition Seating and Flaring dies, and a Lee Collet Style Crimp die. I was looking at the LAM8 as an "upgrade" to my Lee Classic Turret for precision orientated rifle cartridges. Honestly, the Lee's priming system is FAR superior and easier to use. it's spent primer system and the ability to instantly swap out 4 hole ($14) turrets is better too. Honestly, it loads my rifle rounds in single stage mode pretty darned well. ( Pistol or .22 in "progressive" mode at 150 /hr is awesome too,) After watching your video, I think I'm spoiled with the Lee . It will do pretty much all of what the LAM8 will do. Theres a dozen ways to make a work around so I'd do that and move on. As an aside, you need some larger bolts and braces underneath yhe press. Your mount has got too much play in it. I still really like this press. It is solid and just works well. I ended up buying an extra turret head and you can leave several dies set up and ready to go. I only had an issue with priming on the press. I use a separate tool for priming cases.

I think I'd cut a primer tube short and just drop a primer into it, or else try to fit a Lee priming tool into the slot. I don't like this one either.

Yeah, it's not the best. I just prime by hand in a separate step now. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.

Why not just turn off auto indexing on the Lee?
@kyfirearms

Yes, you could definitely do that and it would work fine. Thanks for the commment.

I love the idea of not have to reset dies all the time to load multiple calibers. Is it worth it? I don’t care about priming, I have a much better tool for that purpose.

It saves a lot of time. I have a couple tool heads now. It's a great press.

Mine blows chunks. Nearly every station is out of alignment with the ram. It’s pitiful. It’s gonna be a dedicated pistol press, that’s the only thing it’s good for. Spend the extra money and get the Redding T7, it blows this turd away!

Just straighten the brass tube out. Not hard. Id still get a new one but come-on.

Mine is a real turd, most of the stations are shockingly out of alignment. It is pitiful! The ram is rough and you can feel high and low spots. I didn’t expect a lot for the price point but this is almost useless for rifle ammo. I’m going to use exclusively for pistol ammo.

I will never own another Lyman product. Their warranty is complete garbage. I had a TMag 2 for a little over a year. The block the handle screws into developed a crack and finally broke. They would not warranty it. Same issue with a tumbler. It quit after about 14 month, no warranty.

That stinks. Sounds like you really had a bad experience and I don't blame you. Thanks for your comment.

why are you so "disappointed" in the press because by your own admission the tube probably got dented during shipping? Call Lyman. They will send you a new one no questions asked.

I called and got another tube. I like the press and use it a lot. I don't use the priming function, because it is in the way for me. It's a great press for the money.

Up voted you. However, you could vastly improve you video by editing out a lot of extraneous gabbing. I don't care about Cabelas, or your work bench. I want to focus on the 8-turret press operates. Hope this is helpful.
