You clearly don't understand the context of what is happening here. Also, you're not funny. Hopefully you've improved yourself over these last two years. Good luck!
This is just hilarious lol. I want David Lynch to direct my life to me. "It's 8 'o clock, wake up and wash your face. Wash your face I said. Wash your face"
David Lynch has a lot of experience directing children. Not a lot of people know this, but the Eraserhead baby wasn't actually a puppet, it was a real mutant baby that Lynch found and decided to put in the film.
I was watching this and thought "Wow David Lynch's approach to speaking to children is like the total opposite of Mr Rogers' way of speaking to them" but then I kinda realized he's actually handling the situation in quite a beautiful way that is just a testament to Lynch's character. Because he's not really dumbing anything down too much. Hes asking the children to roll and yell because it would be beautiful, and you can tell he means that he wants them to do exactly that because it would be beautiful. There's no lying or trying to manipulate them to do anything.. Hes kind of just treating them like tiny adults. And you can argue the effectivness of his methods, but you cant deny its a clear testament to Lynchs incredible character
Right? And you could still tell he's not taking it too far with his tone. He's directing them straightforward like adults but his manner is still aware that he's talking to children.
He's just straight up directing them. Not trying to bribe em or yell at them. Just patiently being like, "If you could do the thing I need you to do, that'd be great."
Start making your noise. Start making your noise. Roll around on the floor and make your noise, Alden. Can you make your noise? Alden, if you could start crawling on the floor and making some noise, that would be so beautiful. Cry for me. Crawl on the floor and cry like a little baby. Can you do that, Alden? Can you cry out like a little baby for the film? It'd be so beautiful. Cry out- crawl over there, and crawl around and cry like a baby. See- real loud. Can you do it? Can you do it? Crawl and cry like a baby. Alden, do that thing. That'd be so beautiful- that's great, like that. Can you make noise? Keep making noise. Make some crying noises, some sad, loud crying noises. Don't be happy. Don't be happy. Roll around and be- be, you know, upset. Roll around and be upset. There you go, that's beautiful. Roll back the other way. Roll back the other way. Roll back the other way. Same thing. Roll back. Roll back. No, no, no, no, that's too happy. Roll again. Get over there and roll- roll really, uh, in pain. Really in pain. That's beautiful. Scream like you're at a concert. Can you scream like you're at a concert, Alden? Scream out like you're at a concert. A rock n' roll concert, scream out. Scream out at the man at the door.
David Lynch is the only behind the scenes man that makes you question more about his socialization with the people working for him rather than questioning the media's interpretation.
Ahhh, David Lynch, the man who wishes everyone to ’have a great day’ and golden sunshine day after day with that warm smile, loving voice and perfect hair, all of which guarantee to make your day no matter what Also David: DON’T BE HAPPY AND ROLL AROUND ON THE FLOOR IN PAIN
Lynch makes it look so simple yet it's so masterful when you think about it. You can't say you truly understand how to direct actors unless you've successfully given playable actions to kid actors.
The way be describes the little kid rolling around screaming like they’re in pain as “beautiful” in the way one would describe the Grand Canyon while flying over it on a unicorn in his weird robot voice is just too much!
how else do you ask children to scream in pain, without hurting them. I bet, some directors pinch them or say something horrible to them to make them cry Lycnh is being friendly, making them understand, its all good and hes being completely honest with them and im sure, after the CUT!, they were given some treat
As a director that has worked with children (under the age of 5) on a low budget independent film & I must say, working with children is such a difficult thing to do... its so hit-or-miss with children. You either get an amazing shot you didn't expect to get or you get hours of frustration that you hope can be worked with while editing... most of the time, both.
I heard something similar about directing cats. “You can’t direct a cat, they don’t know what acting is. The only way to make a movie about a cat is to follow it around with a camera until the camera dies and then hope you can write a movie based on whatever the cat ended up doing.”
I'd like to think this is Kyle's audition for Dale Cooper. "Alright Kyle, can you cry like a baby? Can you do that? It would be SO beautiful. You are an FBI crybaby now, you're a long way from home, from mommy, from pizza and chicken nuggies, can you do THAT? Can you do THAT for me Kyle? Perfect!"
He got them crying alright, love david's work but if he said to me , "crawl around and cry like a baby, Alden, it'll be beautiful." I'd probably cry too.
