I love that Lynda Barry is so weird and people love her. I grew up around people where my being weird like this wasn't accepted and I was always sort of...set aside and not really paid attention too.
I love Lynda Barry and watching this talk, I cringed because of the facial expressions and body language of the audience who reeked of the smell of Silicon Valley. That's a tough audience. You are my hero for being 100% yourself anyway. The song as an icebreaker is brilliant. I'm going to try that with my students.
Well, those sitting there stone-faced and confused are *just* the folks who needed to hear this lecture! They need to get in touch with creativity more than anyone, right?
Good talk--like the idea of image as a means of breaking psychological neuro-fixity as it is with sensory-motor neuro-fixity. That a person can't get out of their condition until they can "see" the way out. Ecstasy treatments used to treat ptsd using this principle, and it was effective.
I like her enthusiasm. However, I never really read her comic strips; I always thought the drawings were shoddy. I am prejudiced in this way; if it doesn't pull me in visually, I don't care about the stories.
