Couldn't agree more. Put this on the other night and was literally blown away by the end it. From the soundtrack, cinematography, the limited script, the depth of character Phoenix had and so. Endless elements that Ramsey nailed, including how delicately she handled such a dark subject matter. I hope she can make movies

The fact that this movie is *that* underrated actually makes me sad.
@bramblebop1904

How's it most underrated? Nonsense. It got a bunch of awards, and there's no story there -- not in the movie, not in the book. It is, if anything, _overrated_ .

A truly masterful movie. I have been treated for PTSD (NOT military combat related). This is the first time I’ve ever seen PTSD depicted, truthfully, in a movie. The semi-hallucinations, the unbidden memories of weird details that are, “stuck,” with you, forcing themselves into the front of your consciousness; the spontaneous urges, to shout at, or just talk to the, “memories.” The broken glass of experiences, with every moment passing as a here-and-now flicker . . . Almost impossible to put into words, but made flesh, in this work of art. I will be eternally grateful that I now have something to point to, to say, “Well, since you keep asking, it feels like; it is experienced like, THIS.” And, I will know that, for the first time, someone else can get a grip on what it is, to have PTSD. I can never thank the makers of this movie enough for that. The sound design deserves a mention. Consider, the coffee pot, bubbling in the house that Joe has broken into? We hear it, before he’s even inside, and the noise of it, sets the scene, the internal tension. There were so many scenes with such clever, dynamic, use of, “noise.” It made me wonder if maybe Lynne Ramsey has, or has had, PTSD? They caught it so accurately . . .

I LOVED the little glimpses of the characters past Lynne allowed us to see. Just enough to get an idea, yet the audience have to do the work. That fork polishing scene with he and his mum? The more I think about it the more poignant it gets. Without spoiling anything, I would say it's been a small soothing ritual that kept them going.

Also loved that the cutlerly being polished looked like the same cutlerly that we saw crashing around Joes mother as she hides in terror under the dinner table. A sad but weirdly victorious moment for them both, a link to their abused past that is gone, now they sing together while cleaning those forks! You really feel their relationship so strongly. Amazing film, I love it!

Interesting fact: Lynne Ramsay was the original first director hired to the adaptation of "The Lovely Bones". But all of a sudden Peter Jackson said he wanted to it, so the studio immediately fired her and gave it to Jackson because with his "Lord of the Rings" movies on his CV they thought with his name attached, they could sell more tickets... We all saw how "well" that movie turned out top be -,-
@threetwo7
@threetwo7 2 года назад
If Ramsay took over the direction on the lovely bones I think that would’ve been a top tier movie. I still love that movie but after watching “never here” I really think she would have brought that movie to another level. Lovely bones was one of my favorite movies.

This film is sheer brilliance, in every sense of the word. One of the greatest movies of high art ever made. In terms of a critical plot point, look at the right hand of the agent that Joe mortally wounds. On his middle finger, he wears a ring of Freemasonry. At the governor's estate, the main floor is of the checkerboard pattern, similar to what is found in every hall of Freemasonry. Actual masons use hammers in their labors. "Yes," Joe uses his father's favorite weapon of traumatic abuse, the hammer, to exact justice on those who'd rape kids, but it is no accident that it is also the chief tool and a major emblem of masons and Freemasonry. The bottom line is that this movie is trying to layout how one of the worst kinds of crime, the remorseless sexual exploitation of children, is not only covered up by governments, but is also indulged in by the elites of the world. Think Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Luc Brunel and the governments that they absolutely worked for. Isn't it beyond strange that not a single one of the elite John's who raped those children has ever been exposed, in spite of the FBI confiscating thousands of photos and videos from Epstein's estate? Those men should be officially exposed to the world, and they never will be. Those photos and videos were made for a reason, and they will be used to blackmail and control politicians, judges, lawyers, CEO's, scientists and doctors. Proof of the international nature of such horror? Look up Sir Jimmy Savile. Let's be grateful that a film as brave as this was finally made. It is as poetic as it is powerful. A must watch piece of cinema at its finest. A heartfelt "Thank you" to everyone behind this masterpiece!
