The peak of the Lyrid meteor shower was on the night from Sunday to Monday. The Lyrids are best observed in the morning hours. At the maximum from April 21st to 22nd, up to 18 shooting stars per hour can be observed under optimal conditions. Unfortunately, the very bright, almost full moon and clouds disrupted the observation, so that only a fraction of the shooting stars could be seen. A fascinating side effect of the bright moonlight in combination with the veiled clouds was a very strong lunar halo. A halo is a light effect that occurs, among other things, when the light of the bright moon is refracted in the ice crystals of cirrus or veil clouds. A circular arc around the moon can then be observed. And that night you could see him particularly well. By the way, if you missed the highlight of the Lyrid shooting stars, with a bit of luck you can still observe some in the coming nights. Because the Lyrid meteor shower is active until April 30th.

Nice to see that some Lyrids were still visible despite the Moon. I missed the peak this year as had total cloud cover all night. Great video - thanks for sharing 😃

What time specifically did you see them more often? Like around midnight to early morning?
