I was in a trance listening to you play…incredibly smooth and soulful. I was looking to buy this model as a beginner without breaking the bank, but i also didn’t want a piece of crap lol. I love the sound of a tele. This review was very helpful to me, thank you.
Thanks very much for watching D W, and for your kind comments. We hope we were able to help you in some small way, and I'll pass your kind words along to Dan 😉 👍!
Wow, never heard of Lyx but this one looks and sounds pretty tele'ish and for the money a beginner's real deal without fret sprouts and a well set action. Grab n play. One of your best reviews so far, very enjoyable and complete if you listen to what Dan said. Thx for those bluesy sounds.
@@leodanryan966 Follow up: I ordered one like you have in the video. After installing some locking tuners, compensated brass saddles and a quick truss rod adjustment and setup, it plays silky smooth. Fit and finish above average as well as the fretwork. I'm well pleased with it thus far. We'll see how it holds up over time. Thanks again for the video and those tasty chops.
Thanks very much Brian for watching and for your kind comments. I'll pass them along to Dan. I don't know what backing track Dan is using here. He always mentions it before playing the song, but for some reason this time he failed to do so. I apologize for that 😉👍!
Hey, a familiar telecaster.... I got that one. I took my original video down because i did not like the way it came out. I need put a new one up as I replaced the 022uF microfarad capacitor with a 047uF... that really brings out more mids and lows out. For the price, this is a great great guitar. Have a great Sunday.
Yes I really like this one. Unfortunately it had a screw from one of the tuners broken off in the headstock. They started a new one heading my way before I had uploaded this video. LyxPro and Amazon were both great 👍. Thanks Tom as always for watching and commenting 😀👍.
@Mr. Tom: I would do the same as far as capacitor. I’d put in an Orange Drop. And while I’m in there, I’d swap out the pots too and reverse them after I’d flip the tone and volume plate around so the toggle switch would be far right and the volume knob would be under my pinky. Also, depending on quality, I might also consider replacing the input Jack.
Gentlemen .... very well done video ! Excellent presentation of this LYX Telecaster guitar . So much so that I just ordered one . Dan makes that guitar play and sound like a 3K custom shop Tele ! Hope you guys are doing well . Thank you kindly for this very informative A-1+ video Cheers !
Fantastic review. Just bought this from Amazon and can't wait for it to show up. Thank you for this! Very informative, and you played the hell out of that thing!
I have a Lynx pro at home but it wasn’t a telecaster and I keep on working on my skills and today is my birthday and I played my acoustic guitar and song happy birthday. but man you did amazing!
Thanks very much again, and I just think it's that jack is poorly grounded. Some instruments have no hum, others a little and others a lot. I tried chasing it down, but gave up.
Very impressive, I'm constantly amazed at what you can get for low dollars spent these days. Picked up this one in " white", which is actually a pastel yellow. (which is gorgeous). Great video guys, as always.
Great video review of this telecaster. It's cheap and yes like every budget guitar it needs a set up. Changing out the pickups, bridge and tuners would definitely make it a better guitar. I'm a total beginner player. Love your playing, really great. I'm 67 and have been learning a little over three months. My first guitar was a Donner dlp124 that I'm trying to swap out the humbuckers and wire it with a volume and tone pull potentiometer doing a split coil. Not sure if I can get the wiring correct. My second guitar is a Squire classic vibe 60s stratocaster. Anyway, love the video and am now subscribed to your channel.
Thanks very much for watching and for your kind comments. Good luck with your new endeavor. We are no longer making RU-vid videos, but we have over 500 out there. Thanks for subscribing 😉👍!
I loved your playing, thanks for sharing that with us. I just took delivery of this guitar and I like how it looks and plays for this price. This is my fourth guitar and I thought to myself that worst case, it'll be a pretty Telecaster style guitar to look at as a decoration; but in reality it actually plays pretty well.
Thanks very much for watching and we hope that works out for you. You may want to reem out the tuner holes because Fender tuners are bigger in diameter (I think)😎👍!
Many thanks for the review, especially your thoughts on how it plays right out of the box. I'm a beginner and looking for a Tele to keep in my office at work to get in some practice at lunch or on break. It certainly doesn't make sense to spend 1K for a guitar that is just for practice with no amp. This looks like it will do the trick. Again, thanks for the honest review.
Thanks very much for watching and for your kind comments. I will suggest, however, looking into Squier Telecaster guitars. They can sometimes be purchased on Amazon.com for under $150 😉👍!
I bought one of these after Christmas. Very playable right out of the box (maybe I was lucky) and very light! I plugged it into a Proco Rat and heard little to no hum, I was really surprised about that. I may upgrade some stuff like the saddles down the road, but I’m enjoying it as is right now.
We're glad you are enjoying your new guitar. We kind of liked it as well. Thanks very much for watching our humble video and for your kind comments 😉 👍!
You play with so much feeling 😯 truly impressed don’t get mad at me but I’m gonna take some of those chops 👍 just subscribed very inspirational thanks 🙏
Leo, I have a question for you & Dan, How long have you guys been playing ? I myself am just starting out, I bought that exact guitar & how long would it take someone to play hopefully with practice as good as you ....I'd say a ton of practice...your amazing Dan Just wondering❤
Thanks again for watching Brian and for your kind question. I don't really play much. I (Leo)never have. Dan has been playing for over 60 years, so I'll ask him to answer your question 😉👍!
All anyone can do is start, and make an effort to improve. Any information helps, as long as you apply it. I started at 11, and I was pretty good by the time I was 19, at which point I really got serious. I’m now 70 and still learning.
@@dryan08 Thank you Dan for taking the time to answer my questions , I think we all wish we could play guitar instantly....but in reality it's alot of hard work, Your an amazing guitarist I hope someday I will aquire the skills to play like you , but for now I really enjoy watching you play 👍👍👍
Thanks very much, Emiliano, for watching and for your kind question. We've not yet done a Monoprice Tele style guitar, but as I recall the LyxPro has a very thin and comfortable neck. That said, I think the Monoprice is a bit more substantial instrument. The LyxPro is very light basswood, but Monoprice usually is more along the lines of a Squier plus you get the gig bag with it for around the same price (sometimes even less) 😉👍!
You guys are great. Really enjoyed your informative and entertaining review! I am seriously considering getting this and haven’t decided on whether to get the ant which is what I believe you have, or the mahogany or green. They all look nice. How would you compare this LyksPro to the Glarry? Thanks again, much appreciated!
We have done a few Glarry guitars, as a matter of fact the first review we ever did was a Glarry ST-3. It was a good guitar, we've only done one LyxPro and it was good, but I think it beats the Glarry hands down. Thanks for watching, and for your question. Have a Happy New Year 😊 👍!
I have the same guitar only mine is left handed got it from Amazon I love it what great sound only 109 dollars finished neck even a telecaster vintage bridge man how can you beat this I got just before I bought my gretsch streamliner
Glad to hear it Eddie. It's not often that a manufacturer of inexpensive guitars makes a lefty model! We have also reviewed the Gretsch Streamliner awhile back .Thanks for watching and commenting 😉👍!
First of all thank you for watching our humble video, I have no idea and this guitar was given to a student so I can't check it for you. Sorry about that 😕.
nice review... I saw one on Amazon returns in perfect shape for $99 CAD ($77 USD) and grabbed it. You cant even buy an unfinished Chinese kit guitar for twice that...EDIT 2 weeks later. I received my guitar. My only complaint was the poorly installed tuners in over sized holes in the headstock. Easy enough to fix with shims or by filling and drilling. I changed the tuners to Wilkinson and put new strings on. Nice twang and it stays in tune now! Can't complain for $99 CAD
Well pardner, I'm the guy who does the filming and I certainly appreciate the comments of encouragement. Thanks very much for watching our humble video. 😀 👍!
I watched another video of someone reviewing this and they had problems with it staying in tune. did you have this same problem after the review when you where using it if you did. I'm asking this cause I'm looking for a cheap affordable electric guitar as my first one, I have 220$ to spend. Do you have any recommendations that are better then this?
We have had no problem with the tuners on the LyxPro Tele that we reviewed. I just purchased and we reviewed the Firefly FFLPS Nature Burl XG. It is a beautiful guitar that is very well made and I paid $220. There are other options available for about $189 + shipping which is about $27. You can purchase Firefly guitars at guitarsgarden.com. Shipping usually takes about a week or so. Thanks for watching and for your question. Another option if you can find one is the Eart Strat copy. They sell starting at $197 including shipping on Amazon.com. There are more expensive ones as well.
Thanks very much Robert for your kind comments. I truly think that for a $100 guitar it already is. Thanks for watching and keep the comments coming 🙂.
One of the biggest issues with this brand is there finishes don't seem to cure my lyx strat has the pattern of the gig bag pressed into the finish does not look good even for 50$ WITCH IS TO BAD I PUT WILKERSON LOW GUSS AND IT SOUND GREAT ON OF MY FAVS 5 POUND STRAT.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comments, but I don't think that because that happened to one guitar that it would necessarily happen to all. Have you brought it to the attention of the seller? It's possible that you can get a refund or replacement. In any case I hope you get it worked out. Thanks again for watching 😉👍!
How is your LYX TELECASTER doing it sounds AWSUM same kind I have been playing mine alot and my gretsch streamliner my other nine guitars are in the closet there getting a little jealous ha ha
It was given to Mike McLean to be passed on to one of his students. I've been thinking of trying one of their Strat copies. What do you think? Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄!
I'm continuously amazed at the prices of these guitars! I can't begin to buy the wood and all the hardware, and build one anywhere that cheap! It looks nice and sounds decent, too. Although I think Dan could make any guitar sound good. I wonder if you have a grounded outlet where you're playing at. I know I have an older house. All of the outlets are 3 prong, but some of them were changed years ago, but not all the wiring was changed. Some of the wiring in my house is still the old 2 conductor without a ground wire. You can buy a little tester that plugs into the outlets, at Harbor Freight for about $5. It has 3 lights that tell you if you have a grounded circuit and even tells you if it's wired backwards. They're handy to have. Hope ya can figure out the problem. Take care guys!👍😎🎸🎶
@@leodanryan966 I'm not sure how to do that. The tester I got there is yellow and they fit in the palm of your hand. They have 3 prongs, just like any appliance. They have 2 yellow lights and a red one. They're only about 1 1/4" wide by less than 3" long. I wish I knew how to send links, but I'm so old fashioned it's pathetic! Lol😂
An old fashioned beginner that can play well after just reading the manual. Most of us just throw the thing away, but never again.Teasing aside, do you think it is as good as the Donner Tele?
Thanks very much for watching and for your kind comments. The LyxPro is a good guitar for $100, a Donner Tele copy is a bit heavier than the LyxPro and Donner has truly upped their game lately with making some really great strat copies. I'm not sure what they currently offer so far as Tele's but I'd say that Donner is a better bet for your hard earned $$$ 😉👍!
Thanks very much for watching and for your kind suggestion, I'm not certain that would make it any better. It's already a 3 prone pron prong plug, I just don't think it's grounded properly and since I personally did the electrical work, I have no one to blame but myself 😎👍!
Yes a little bit, but not too much and we forgot to mention how well dressed the fret ends were. Thanks for watching and for the excellent questions Harry. I wish you would have been there to ask when we were videotaping. Lol 😆👍!
@@leodanryan966 I mainly play my gretsch streamliner I do alot of writing my own songs more on the early sixties sound of rock n roll singing and guitar rythem
@@leodanryan966 yes I agree I like it for rythem sound when I'm singing has nice tone I know your supposed to put the 10 guage strings on it I like the nines cause it easy to play and I don't feel like adjusting the trus rod and the bridge I'm leaving it the way it is sounds nice 👍 and rich with the nines
I appreciate my name call out at around the 17min area, but I didn't understand why Dan did it in relation to palm muting. What am I missing in relation to what felt like a slight comment at me? And, I heard you laughing about it as well!!
It's because in one of our previous videos you made a comment about not palm muting during the demonstration of the pickups. All in fun. 😉👍! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@leodanryan966 I have no recollection of that event. But it must have struck a chord, pun intended, with Dan for him to remember and mention it today. 😉 I'm happy for the mention.
I think that Glarry, monoprice and this guitar are probably all made by the same companies? Interesting. Just picked up an $80 monoprice that was an incredible telecaster--no fret sprouting and after a minor adjustment, it plays beautifully and stays in tune. The pickups are surprising good on that model. Plus a padded gig bag? WOW. I just can't figure out how they are producing it so cheap. Slave labor?
Thanks very much for watching, so far as where guitars are made, I dunno (Heaven possibly) glad you got a good guitar, Monoprice makes some great guitars 🎸 😀 👍!
Great video and channel guys! I dropped some BYO pickups, from Amazon, in my Lyx Pro Tele and it sounds amazing. Check out my Suenos cover. Well, a little bit of it anyways Lol
Thanks very much for watching and for your kind comments HermitKingMaster, I'll be happy to check out your cover and subscribe to your channel. I'm uploading a video right now so give me a few minutes. 😉👍!
What exactly did you expect for this $ money ??????💴 If you did nothing but put in on a wall, you got what you paid for ! 🎉 What were any expectations at all ?
What is it that you are complaining about? I gave this guitar to my son. He loves it. But I 'll say this. No matter what I pay for "a guitar " I expect it to be a playable instrument right out of the box. Thanks for watching.
..i dont like that they don't match the color of the Woods they glue together for the body, ..on any of them, which they should do if it's going to be a clear coat rather than a solid Color. Mismatched wood like that i would Paint. I know it's just aesthetic, but aestheticly to my eye it looks like sht.
@benwright6330 Thanks very much for watching, I disagree. Do you realize how difficult that would be to do? The guitar was only selling for around $100 as I recall. You are entitled to your opinion I suppose.
@@leodanryan966 I bought a Glarry tele with a perfect amber finish the first year they came out, on sale around Christmas time, for $75. free shipping. A year later I ordered another, and it was unmatched wood like yours, also I noticed even the guitars pictured in their ad had changed from the earlier beautiful matched amber to that streaky looking stuff. I don't know, ..the earlier ones were way nicer, ..it's like they either cheaped out or ran out of the better looking woods as they got nearer to the bottom of the barrel.
a nitpicker and overly-detailed look at a cheap guitar is misleading. A cheap guitar can be trash or good for the money, if you know what to do with it. New tuners and pickups may do it, etc. But a cheap guitar may suit you fine and have weaknesses easy to overcome if you are experienced in guitar tweaking.
Well, we appreciate your time and kind comments. I don't know if Dan was nit picking or not. The entire point of our guitar videos is " can you play it right out of the box ". This is a really good guitar. We don't say "for the money ", because what you pay for it is irrelevant.
I don't get it. If you're tight on budget and this is what you can afford then cool. I get that part. However you're a decent player and why, oh, why you would buy a cheap Chinese copy that will never appreciate a single $$ baffles me. That is unless, this is, all you can afford. Having these fine reproductions are a nice alternative to a real Fender which are increasingly pricey. Still, I'd rather have a real Fender if the $$'s can be made available. 👍👍
First of all, thank you for watching and I would usually say and for your kind comments, unfortunately you must be trying to troll us. I am Leo Ryan, I can barely play the guitar enough to say that I play. Dan is my brother. He on the other hand has been a professional guitarist for over 60 years. We have this channel for fun, just to spend time with each other in our older years and better get to know each other as brothers. We started this channel by accident back in 2017, and since then I have purchased hundreds of guitars to review one each and every week. There are 52 weeks in a year, and purchasing a Fender or Gibson every week would be rather expensive. I don't have that kind of money. We are not monetized, so nobody pays us for this, and when we're done with a guitar I have usually in the past donated it to a student who didn't have one. That being said, I don't feel like you are qualified to ask me "anything at all!" Now, you can go and please don't let the door hit you, where the good lord split you!
I noticed that you are a harmonica player. If I were you, I wouldn't give advice to real musicians. What investment have you in your collection of Hohner harps? $20-$50 each? If you add all of them up, you probably have less than the cost of the cheapest guitar we've ever reviewed invested, you have been on RU-vid for 12 years, and you have 4 videos that have zero comments. You may even be better at this than we are, but we have the distinction of actually doing it.
@@leodanryan966 You played it well, but as I said, I'm not in love with the looks of the thing....and because of the shape they made the headstock you can't really reshape it to a more Tele type shape, like some of the other cheapo tele copies.... Just my opinion...
@@fabulousfreddyisready Well, I feel quite privileged to be able to play a guitar that costs only $100, and actually sounds pretty good. I am aware of your opinion, but I actually like the looks of the guitar. Squier actually makes a body that looks just exactly like it but it's $300, and I have never liked the shape of telecaster headstocks. I don't like the shape of this one either, but it really makes no difference to what any guitar looks like as long as it does it's job. This one does that.
