She's an abused girl and probably the child she lost was the fruit of her father's abuse That drove her to anorexia and panc attacks and her heart was too shattered to be saved by a "charming prince". The palace with strong walls is probably a cemetery (cemeteries have got walls in Italy), so it's also probable "Coraline" took her life in the end, so that nobody could hurt her anymore. Damiano said it's a true story but he didn't want to tell more about the real "Coraline".

Correct. This song is a tribute, Coraline is a fictional name and the lyric is based in a true storie without happy end. This song is a message to all the people in this condition, just look around and you will find someone who love you even all the fear and monsters in your life.

This lyrical ballad has some of the deepest and most tragic meanings of all Maneskin's repertoire. It is told in the form of a medieval fairy but tragic tale.The truths Coraline knows are so atrocious you can't even name them. Read the lyrics once without music. Put the meaning of each stanza in the story together and you will discover Coraline's 'heavy burden' and why she is so anxious and she doesn't want to 'eat' but rather she wants to 'disappear'. Stanza 1: description of Coraline's appearance: she is a beautiful girl and sensitive, she feels the sorrow of other people and she carries it within herself. Stanza 2: description of C's tragic psychological reality: her heart is broken into two halves, she has lost all her energy because of the evil she has to suffer and people who don't know about her inner self and the violence and 'burden' she has been exposed to say she is weak and can't do even the most common things (going out of a door). But one day she will succeed in going through that door and her life will start to change. A new beginning for her will then be possible. Stanza 3: The singer tells C she can change her life 'take her things and leave', but C doesn't have the force to react, she 'wants the sea but she's afraid of the water', there is a monster she is afraid of... a father who is not a father... and now we know that the sea is really inside her and her womb... She loses the fruit of her womb. She doesn't know the meaning of love... And any word said to soothe her sorrow and help her is useless it is like an 'axe in the back'... Stanza 4: what will the singer be/do for her if she wants to be helped. He will know her truth and fight for her without asking for anything in change. Stanza 5: conclusion: we end in the same way as the story started (in a circular movement) = there is no solution to C's burden. There's a castle in town with walls so massive and solid that nothing more will afflict C. She will find eternal peace inside that castle. Maneskin once said in an interview that this song is based on a true story. The name Coraline has been chosen for musical reasons.

Sorry, you got it wrong again. The lady in the band (half-Danish girl Victoria, who put the band together and named it in Danish...) is on the bass guitar; the guitar is played by Thomas. The song has no relationship with the movie. The name was chosen because it sounded good; I suppose that means that it came in handy whenever it suited him to switch pronunciation three times mid-song. Damiano, the singer, writes all the lyrics; he said it's a story he witnessed personally and he made it into a sort of fairy-tale song. Details are not disclosed, obviously, and I'm sure all comments here will be unleashing the usual list of explanations of the meaning, but the truth is these are only theories. Coraline is a character with lots of issues (afraid to go out, unwilling to eat, afraid to grow up and own her life, possibly abuse etc) and the translation is correct when it says "she lost the fruit of her womb". Personally I think this might refer to lots of things: whether she was sexually assaulted and lost a baby (since "she has not known love") or she simply became sterile as a consequence of extreme anorexia and her useless father was never there for her and let her end up in a hospital or in a cemetery... It doesn't really matter that much. In essence, Coraline had it bad. One main point here is that the story is told by the viewpoint of the knight who so much wishes to save her, but in the end is probably helpless. I don't know if that was a young Damiano (imagine how young that must have been. He wrote this song at age 21) or someone he knew, but I think the song can be relatable for all people with struggles, and also for all the people around them trying (and failing) to do something about it.
@marinaparigiani4090
@marinaparigiani4090 3 года назад
pirimpallo: your lengthy explanation is fairly faithful to the story. Pls note that Victoria De Angelis is not the leader of the band but contributed to the name of the band but contributed which have been playing together since the age of 15-16 (baskers in Rome). All the four of them have a specific role in the band which seems to be working just fine.

At the guitar is Thomas, at the bass Victoria. It's a real story, without happy ending. Damiano changed the girl's name, which he knew, and only he knows what really happened. For sure, the knight could not save the girl. The castle at the end could be a cemetery or an asylum.

The band, when asked about this song during an interview for a radio station, said it was inspired by a true story but obviously refused to reveal more.... In my opinion it is about a young girl physically abused by her father, who got pregnant and consequently forced to have an abortion... Then she became depressed feeling unable to share her pain and searching for help... etc etc...

Måneskin are a fantastic young band, Damiano, the singer, writes the lyrics and the music is the work of the whole band. They started very young, when they were 16 to 18 years old and even earlier. Coraline is from a true story. They are extraordinary, I recommend listening to La Fear of the Dark, Twenty Years and Bruises on the Elbows as well as Zitti and Buoni with which they saw Sanremo in Italia and l'Eurovision, taken from the latest album Teatro d'Ira volume 1. From the previous Album The dance of life, I recommend Back home and The distant words. These are all wonderful pieces in Italian but the English language production is beautiful too. A hug from Italy ❤

Coraline is the story of a child abused by her father. Her schizoid heart prevents her from loving what she loved about her because of her nature. Like her father who turns into a monster, so the sea and the river are reflected in her fears. The meaning of the good is reversed. The father is evil, so is the food, going out the door of that prison, seeing the future - for Coraline all this is steeped in great pain. A man who would like to help her in a safe place, a shelter for children taken from the family. He would like to give her shelter, affection, without asking for anything in return. But Coraline is broken, forever. It's a song about domestic violence.

The song tells the story (a true one, apparently) of an abuse. Coraline is severely depressed, probably because of an abusing father - the translation at the end of the song is wrong, it's not "father of nothing" but "a father who's nothing like a father". Coraline may have lost a child (I hope not from his father, but there is a hint at that) and she withdraws even further into a castle with powerful walls - which as far as I understand may be either her inside walls and the walls of an asylum (or both), where she becomes numb, the only thing she could do because to feel something for her was reduced to feeling infinite despair. The singer, Damiano, sings about him wanting to save her (I'll be also a soldier etc.) but clearly he couldn't do that. It's definitely not a happy ending
