Hello Misha The engine of your black 850 T5 stil runs in my brothers White 850R. Unfortunatly your White V70 T5 didn't make it very long. 2 years after you sold it to me, it got stripped for parts
@@Peterdieleman lol don’t use your time on him.😆That’s pretty cool you got it from Misha! Which mods does it have in your brothers car? Good luck in future my guy.
@@sebastianejlertsen3118 At first he had a 16t 3 inch downpipe and a custom chip, i believe it was around 300hp. Now its complete stock and still his daily driver for i believe 12 years now
Tim Williams is an absolute legend in the UK Volvo community. What he doesn't know about these cars isn't worth knowing! He invented the "block-mod" for the 5 cylinder motor that went into the Focus ST MK2 and stopped many of our cars from getting cracked cylinder liners.
Wow. This guy drives so controlled and is really enjoying it. Probably not the fastest time with this car, but he isn't trashing it. And that sound, awesome.
Big fan of these things. The owner is such a gentleman. Love his style of driving. The lap felt really smooth and composed. I guess experience talks. He is a senior at the 'ring I suppose.
Many advantages to Volvo, but the tight fit of interior pieces is lacking similar to a budget American or Korean car. Do what you can to live with that minor issue and it’s such a good car though!
If you do end up going for 1 go for an 850 not the V70. Don't be fooled into thinking they are the same 850 built when owned by volvo v70 was peugot or ford owned and fell to peices., I had an 850 (96) which was bullet proof like drove 100 miles no oil in it and was totally fine. Biggest problem in 10 years was cutting out when stopping at lights (needed new cat) and a seized brake caliper once. Yeah I had to change brakes and pads and other just stuff that wears out. V70 well it fell to pieces, all the electrics started have problems and many other thing I never had to touch on the 850 and spent about 4000 in the 4 years I owned it, both cars were 2nd hand with around 130k when I bought them.
@@VolantFool Yes, its the same platform, but i think they are two different cars. Volvo kind a tried to make them better, but in my opinion they failed a bit in some of the models, but it is Fords fault, they where saving money and it was shown. I have some volvos in my garage 240, 740 turbo, 850 2.4 petrol, v70p80 turbo, my 850 is from 1996 and it has more than 500 000 kms and still no problems with electronics, interior, engine, and drivetrain, only rust starts to eat it, but that V70 form 1999 at the same kms is not that good in quality. Jeah, its kind a comfortable, but seats are not that soft as in 850, all the window regulation buttons started to malfunction or brake down, had to replace them all on all doors, same goes for some of instrument panel buttons, their soft touch material peals off and then it looks disgusting, then door leather starts to segregate....on all of the doors, door rubber seal starts to peel off, had to glue them back, then rear window wiper brakes down - had to trace a broken wire behind rear seats. Some lights wont go away in instrument cluster - check engine comes up, goes away, comes up....stays for two days, goes away, ABS starts to malfunction in some periods, and the hardest is that i cant find a problem.....looks like there is a big problem in wiring, but it takes a long time to find it where, so i am not even trying to repair it anymore, but if you can find a V70R P80 - grab it and never let go :D Its just my opinion, if you have both of them for a longer period you will feel the difference.
I love Volvos from the early 80s to the early 00s, even though I've never even driven one. They're just admirable. This is awesome, and I hope people keep as many old Volvos going as long as possible. This man did some amazing work.
Google's typical Volvo owner: this chap comes up. The phrase he has a very particular set of skills comes to mind. Great car, nice lap, now wants a Volvo estate.
you are going hot on the Torslanda speciemens :D. I remember my friends dad(may him rest in peace) he got the 850r black station wagon and it had a map(think it was around 300hp), this was around 20 years ago. We had such blast driving around in that as youngsters :)
Congrats for the video. As a Volvo fan I was absolutely shocked by this 850 and also by such gentleman and knowledgeable owner... Volvo community is the best.
That was awesome and the guy knows how to use the 5 cyl tourqe my younger brother had one many years ago when he passed his test and regrets not doing a full btcc rep and not selling it. Just wish there was a speedo cam but really enjoyed it 👌🏻
Aww man! So much love for this video 😊 I used to own a yellow 850 T5r. I loved that car more than any other, before or since. Sadly I rolled it.... badly! Broke my heart. That engine sound took me back though. And Tim, you’ve done a great job with that car, good work mate. Thanks for the video Misha.
Well, keeping the T5-spirit alive at the ring. 23-24oct i'm going there myself again. Throwing the C70 out there for a few laps. And that number plate, P80 TWR. Awesome! 😏
Its lovely to see and hear passion as we all know the right to repair and build is slowly being taken away by manufacturers. kudos to people that turn bricks into what the real car fans dreams....Great content as always...
Did you notice that? This over 20 years old car remains comfortable even there. You easily hear the passenger, and still can talk with him calmly))) I love Volvos for that!
Wow, haven't heard that name in a long time. He was very well regarded when I had my 850 T5 many years ago. Looks like he's still got the bug. Fantastic cars!
Some say Tim is a bit of a legend! I have met him briefly with his friend Shem. Both of which are the go to guys for any UK owned Volvo! Would love my 850R to go as well 👍🏼
Lovely drive knowledgeable fella.. back in the day I had a lovely tussel in my 4x4 cossie with a yellow t5 was a bit hair raising was struggling to lose t5.......stopped chatted to the guy after had a gd chat that's how it should be (memories)
What a cool car! I had three 850T5 estates - two stock and the last modified for track days. Wish I hadn’t sold them and often look for one but now so rare and pricey. Loved the handling of each, not as frisky as a Clio Cup etc. but very stable and still easy to make the back swing out a bit to cut understeer . Though torque steer was hilarious. The last was a 240,000 miler I stripped out, had Racelogic Traction control, Powerflex bushes, modified brakes etc for track days. Sold to a guy to use in hill limbs but never heard how it did.
Tim is an awesome guy. I'll be buying a Gripper LSD from him for my V70. If anyone wants a Gripper LSD he is the man to get it from. Best prices in the market ;)
Misha :) Volvo 850 is fwd.. You already have that in your Polestar. But don't you want a old classic rwd Volvo in your garage? I have to sell my Volvo 945 2,3 SE S.A.M tuned from factory cause I simply can't throw any more money on the car. I owned it since 2002 and is the second owner. I think my 945 deserves a life with you in the Apex family and driving on Nürburgring with you. You guys could turn it into what I always have dreamed of, but sadly probably never will be able to do. A track monster! It's black with black 18" rims. Could be something :) Wagons is the best 🙂
Always wanted one and still on my go do list, it’s the noise of those 5 pots, oh and the designed with a ruler aesthetic. I thought the t5 5 pots were as powerful as it got until I saw some of the Northern Europeans playing around with old blue blocks and pentas, all hail the turbo brick owners
What a cracking car , I love t5s. And driver was very calm and smooth 👍🏻 Could tell he was maybe at 8/10 , car had more in reserve but you can have fun without going crazy and risking the car.
I had an 850 T5 too, boosted up another 50 or so horsepower. I remember tuning back in the day was difficult past about 310bhp without massive engine internal changes. The focus RS version of the lump was not out then. It was a fantastic car and had legs on the typical rally rep cars of the day (Evos and Scoobies), which always surprised them. I always figured those had lots of 4wd transmission losses. Handled well, obvious torque steer was easily manageable.
Misha, I would say get rid of the VW tractor and get you one of these! More power, an actual station that can be used both on track and off-track to carry parts around and people. Also my father had quite a lot of Volvos back in the day and their engines are bullet-proof! He told me a lot about the 240/242 Turbo he had and 940 as well and all the really old school boxy Volvos there were back then. Also lets not forget these things are practically tanks on wheels, if you do crash one of these the repair costs probably would be cheaper than expected but ofc lets not forget about how much you need to pay for the Nurburgring itself in that case.
when you started the intro with good morning comrades, it sounded like good morning cowards XD, and danggg my love for bricks is getting bigger and bigger
The person is driving it like I would myself. Speeding up from within or after a corner but stay a bit sober when entering or approaching the corners. Too bad mine is FWD so it will never be driven there. Thumbs up for fast Volvo's!
That Porsche at the beginning was also probably shocked to see this old station wagon keeping up with him. Back in the day, Volvo was a major force in rally racing and racing in general.
I still have the standard KW springs so I'm using them with very little added castor. I'm in the process of changing to straight spring to enable increased castor.
