Nick, the fact that you're from DNA blows my mind. My elder brother bought the Tom's Diner and La Serenissima remixes on vinyl about two decades ago and they left a huge impression on me. Those tunes, along with 808 State's In Yer Face, Utah Saint's Something Good and KLF's 3am Eternal formed the soundtrack of my childhood (I'm 29 now). Just wanted you to know that you've got a big fan from Singapore.
just bought this device. It's an awesome device to accompany me while on the road. the keys are a little bit tiny but I found no problems at all in playing them, always be my favourite toy to keeps me busy on the road :)
Just to say I still have one that I'm using with my laptop when I'm travelling, and it works like a charm and fit my laptop bag. So it was really a bargain there's 9 years ago !
#Its a great little keyboard however the USB port connection is quite fragile so please be careful. If too much pressure is applied, It may fracture the USB port connection to the circuit board. I had to open mine up and re soldier mine back on which is a pain. good luck
Just happened the same to me. This really sucks! For someone who's not able to soldier it back together, I'm guessing it's going straight to the trash.
Found one in the electronic recycling at my building in perfect condition. I tried to plug it in and realized the USB had done exactly what you described. I Cracked it open and now was wondering what to do next.... Guess this is a perfect time to learn how to solder! Thank youuu quarantine.
I've taken the keystation mini 32 with me everywhere I go for almost 3 years already. Had a great time using it, until the usb connector fell off, but that's what you get if you take with you enduring all kinds of things. Great keyboard still, but its time for me to try out other mini midi-keyboards!
I purchased one of these to use with my GNU/Linux laptop (Xubuntu 14.04) ... Worked out of the box. Very happy with it, and it only set me back £35 :-)
Great review Nick! Ive been put off M-Audio since my v1 Oxygen 8 spazzed out many moons ago! Use a Akai Mpk mini now with my laptop but I would consider this for iPad use - Thanks!
Can you tell me what type of cable, connection,.... you are using and we’re can we buy it thx, buy the way, YOUR iPad IN YOUR VIDEO, is APPLE OR, SAMSUNG ?
Thanks for making this review. Very informative. A question please, as I couldn't understand how to achieving this from the manual (if possible at all): Is there an option to set the pitch/bend function to go up/down in a specific value? For example from C -> half note up to C#, or a whole note to D etc? Thanks!
I have several bigger keyboards and lots of other equipment and I don't have any interest in buying Keystation MINI, but I watched this because your reviews are excellent. And I don't think I am not the only one doing this...
I'm using an iPad mini 2 with a lighting USB camera connection and I have a full second delay between when I hit a key and when I hear any sound, any tips?
do u think i can play some chords with this, becazse myfriend plays voiline and when we meet together in his house we could play a bit together... do u think that is possible with this?
can anyone tell me how the durability of this midi after years of using? someone commented somewhere that it only lasted a few months for them... thankyou in advance ^_^
Hey, great video! I have a question: Should I buy the M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 or the AKAI LPK 25? They cost the same in my trusted instrument shop (thomann). I just want to record some synthi sounds (like strings or piano) for cubase AI 7 while recording my guitar and bass. Thank you for your help!
If this is late, I'm sorry but I would say the M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 because they have pretty much the same features except the AKAI LPK 25 doesn't come with any software. Also the Keystation has more keys. Again, sorry if I'm late.
lool perfect for me tho since I'm in the same situation but about to buy what do you mean with that it doesn't come with any software? Aren't both just "plug it in and play"?
the octave just suddenly didnt work in fl-studio. And when i push the button the led will only go to to green which is the first octave?any tips on how to fix this?
hey thanks for the review, i think i'm going to switch from nanokey to this one... Questions: is the sustainkey only a toggle switch, or can you change it to momentary? is there an editor software? can you assign midimessages to the pianokeys?
It's been a while so I don't know if you still want an answer but if so, he says in the video it's Garage Band which I believe is Apple-specific (doesn't work in other OSs).
Bruno Cx You should just go with the cheap one, make sure you read the reviews first though. If they say it works then it should work with the keyboard.
oh i contactes m audio support and there is no problem at all.All you need is headphones and connect them with your pc.Its a midi keyboard so it doesnt produce any sound unless u use fl studio logic pro x or other programms like these :) sry for my english i'm greek :p
If you have fat fingers consider a full size keyboard, believe it or not you can pick up something like a 49 key casio with general midi for like $20-30 and it served me equally as well as the axiom did for a 10th of the price.
i'm thinking of getting one of these for doing midi drums at home, and possibly learning some keyboard stuff. I'm not a professional musician so is this kinda what i want?
looking for a good travel controller. i already have an axiom 49 at my home studio. checked the 25 key version out but i dont know its just 25 keys... do you know any options for me ? :)
How long is it? (That's not a personal question by the way). I can't seem to find the dimensions listed anywhere but I want to know the length of this keyboard before ordering one so I can work out if it will fit in my backpack, Cheers, Nigel
Hey I just got an m audio but have no idea how to use it. Can anyone tell me what programs do I need to instal to play ? Dont have a cd just the keyboard
Can you guys review the Impulse keyboards from novation??? I really want to hear your professional opinion on them - I was going to buy the Axiom but then the impulse comes out and they seem very similar...
@sergiosalvatore1 korg microkey is THE BEST travel controller. it has a full 3 octave keyboard (37 keys) pitch bend and mod wheels. (yes they are actual wheels) and the keys are the same as the microkorg xl wich is great
hi im looking to st up a mini hoyuse studio and im looking for a cheap keyboard or controller something like that that will work with fl studio... would you recommend it for me to buy??
Do you know for definite if this would work with iPhone 5 using camera connection kit? As i know there are other midi keyboards on the market like the iRig keys that do support the iPhone, and i know the camera connection kit isn't meant to be used with iPhone but this is used on the iRig keys works without extra power. However i haven't found any information on the internt where someone has actually tested the mini 32 with an iPhone. & i dont want to buy this to find out if it won't. Thanks
Hi, Can anyone help me. I don't like how the volume plays depending on how hard you press the keys. Is there a way to make all presses sound the same volume?
Hi Owen, Your software usually has a control somewhere for velocity sensitivity. Not all midi software will have the option, what application are you using?
+Owen Nosal Hey Owen, I don't know if you got a solution for that yet, but if not, I think that FL actually has what you're looking for, I don't know what version are you using but in the 12.0.1, if you go to the options, and then midi settings, down there you have options for the "note on" velocity and the "release" velocity. Hope it helps
I just bought this, at first I thought what is this crap, the keys were to hard and springy, but after a couple days of messing around with it you get use to it. My friend has a 25 key oxygen and I feel it is better since you can take the mini with you in a laptop case but his is to fat, I use to own a axiom 49 which was a great keyboard until I wanted to go make beats anywhere, so yea the mini is great bang for the money I just need help assigning the knob in nexus.
I wanted to buy more expensive but i changed my mind because this little thing will do job for you especially if you do some techno. It is good enough, what you need only good software like Halion from steinberg and you are ready to roll. Software is more important than this and to have good music no one even find out you are playing on some childish keyboard because it is not it is real midi controller with less features what honestly you don't need. It has very good velocity sensitive 32 keys good for any techno move around it is not so hard on fingers that is another plus why i like this keyboard. I had before with 49 keys but i returned to Amazon because it was more harder on fingers this one is winner my friends and people even don't know so much about it. I would like also say you need also good DAW like a studio one pro 6 to play with it
if its a home studio i suggest you find a "full" 61 keys keyboard as you most likely will be unhindered by travel if you are gonna travel alot with the keyboard i suggest this or another light 32 keys keyboard (ps a real full keyboard is 71 keys but 61 keys will work for you unless you are working in classical music)
only problem i see is the size, a bit bigger than the other small keyboards...at first you would think it's not such a big deal but then try fitting it in a laptop bag, or worse for the ipad users... seems like you'd just have to lug it around
