Only trained ears can understand and appreciate Sri.MDR's music. No.1 bass voice in carnatic music till date.

Every Gopalakrishna Bhararti's song carries heart-wrenching meaning,as every serious rasika knows. MDR is one of the few who could bring out that sorrow and hurt Bharati felt when he was living when he sang his great songs. Thanks for posting this. N K Kumar

The very best rendition of Abhogi ever; I'm not forgetful of Geeyenbee's meticulous "Manasu nilpa sakthi...",however. Even MDR did that song too -- once, I believe. MDR kept away from songs popularized by Geeyenbee out of sheer respect for him, I believe. This is just one rasika's conjecture, you see. Any way, we shall enjoy both these giants -- when we get a chance.

Raj Namboodiri! Is he related to the famed Cartoonist Namboodiri? Both spell "Namboodiri" same way -- I wonder. If that's the case, that'll be wonderful. Both Namboodiri and R K Laxman captured MDR's profile the best way possible. Once I sat next to Mrs R K Laxman at a KSG concert in New Jersey: I deciphered the Reethigowla ragam for her("Nannu vidachi!--my prediction was correct!) That conversation between us about his estranged husband back in 1990 remains a private matter. N K Kumar

_if it is Abogi and Manaau nilpa kiruthi Madurai Mani Iyer with Chowdaiya on violin is miunimum 2 laps ahead of any other vidwan with due respect to them. superlative abogi by MM iyer.pl listen and agree.

Chandrakala Ragunathan While I can understand your admiration for the great Madurai Mani Iyer, the beauty of our music lies in the scope it offers to the great exponents of the music to render a song in his or her own style.In fact, the beauty of the song is actually enhanced by the unique style of its exponents.Viewed from this perspective, to say that one singer is better than the other, far from telling anything about the singers concerned,only reveals your admiration for the style of the singer you like listening to.Due to the uniqueness of each singer, there is no common ground for comparing.
