38 stinking screws holding that cabinet on. Well done and very factual video. I've worked on about 20 of those and they are certainly tricky sometimes. That said, the modulation developed on that with the push pull modulator rivals the Tram D 201.
its wonderful that his old radio was restored. I alway wanted on. all I got was a robin after the it was the cobra two thousand. I"m just watching this in 2021
I have a DAK X That is at the repair shop right now. And has absolutely no RF out however it is showing modulation. The guy should have a back to me this week. I’ve had it for around 10 years. I love my Dak wouldn’t trade it for anything
Top reason for high end soldering equipment like JBC and PACE is that they have the thermal response and power to operate at lower temperatures, like 50C lower, than cheap irons.
Paid $150 for mine several years ago with the matching Black Astatic D-104 desk microphone. It is pretty near MINT. I am blessed to own it. AWESOME CB in my opinion. I like it as my SSB radio over my TRAM D201A but do prefer my Browning Golden Eagle MK IVA for AM. All of them are great CB Base Radios in my opinion even when so many hate the DAK Mark X I love mine & don't care if anyone else likes it at all. {:>)
I had one to play with for a couple of weeks back when they were pretty new, and it was one of the worst radios I've ever used. I lived near the Ohio Turnpike and the receiver couldn't handle strong signals at all. It was deaf as a rock when a trucker keyed up as he passed near me. I had a tiny RS mobile and it was vastly better than the DAK. I would love to transplant the guts from a good radio into that case.
Cool stuff my old friend bless his soul had one of these Daks I remember installing a frequency counter to it for him .... wonder what ever happened to it ? Take care! 73 de ve3hip in Welland Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Just subscribed and like your work. I have a dak mk ix that needs repair and would you be interested in fixing it and giving it a low dead key and want to keep it as original as I can keep it, I use old jb12, jb150,jb 76a amps as drivers and like those old tube radio tones just luv the and thanks sir really like your work
Hi Mike my internal fuse just blew on my DAC 10. What is the proper type pigtail fuse value you suggest the replace it with? I’m also looking to replace the relay. Any suggestions will help. Thanks in advance. Andy
Any American made CB transceivers, Wouldn't it be nice to create a modern version with microprocessor control of the synthesizer and a modern DSP based transceiver board.
NO it would be a POS just like the CRAP they build Today. It is a far better radio as it was designed & if it had been changed then making the receiver be tubes as well would have given it far better rejection. The New radios are pure GARBAGE & drift all of the band because they are Cheap TRASH. I will keep my Old School DAK Mark X over any CB made in the last 25 years or longer.
This is why I always try to run a clean audio radio. I'm like you, what good is a radio if you cannot even understand what another person is transmitting. If I want more power I'll just hook up my linear amp but still with not more than 100 % modulation and only using a power mic turned only about half the way up. If I cannot be understood then what's the sense?
I have heard it is a clone of Cybernet but made in Korea instead of Japan. I have always wanted to get one and actually put a real Cybernet board in one! I have let many of them go buy on auction houses for cheap. Now that I want one to play with the prices has been insanely highly lately!
At 36:26 on the far right of the screen there is two open through hole about a resister width apart, just noticed , thought I would mention it on the rare chance you missed it.
I used to have one just like it. It stopped transmitting and I couldn't find anyone to work on it on the 90s. I sat on it forever and I don't know what happened to it
I hate that so much, the people who have these loud radios that bleed all over and sound like complete crap. Not to mention they say stuff that doesn't even make sense. If you are going to transmit say something that makes sense at least and have a clean signal.
Well clearly most of these companies did not care about the service of the unit latter in life. I doubt the people that made that board in Korea had no idea 4+ decades later people would still be using these let alone restoring them! I am sure they had to trial fit everything during development and had to know it was a PIA to work on.
Bet ya somebody incorparated a sold state radio into one these that were blown out to far I'd like see a build on that heck you could drop a PC 122 or a MB 8719 in there.
Hey Mike can you work on my dak 9 the audio socks I need mines clean up and audio loud and clear and swinging to 5 bird watts forward post your info so I can send you radio
It can heat the solder enough to melt but you will probably end up with a dry/cold solder joint. The old solder is oxidized and contaminated after several decades.
Miks radio repar my hobbies are painting pictures 🖼 and listening to shortwave and ssb I have 5 shortwave receivers iam thinking about getting my ham license
I would try contacting him by other methods. I think you can find his info on Google. Idk how often he even looks at comments on here since he retired from posting on this channel quite awhile back
Took me from 1978 until 2017 to find one that had not been screwdrivered to death & had ZERO Mods but it was worth the long wait. Cost me $125 with the matching Black Astatic D-104 desk microphone.
Dear Mike Radio Repair,I have a Dak 6 radio and I ‘am wondering do you know what year that radio was made. Please contact me at your convenience thank you 🙏
@@mikesradiorepair Great instructional video Mike! I will be purchasing a DAK 10 very soon but wondering if you can recommend a technician that works on these or do you still repair them? From the video it sounded like you prefer not to work on them any longer. Thanks for all of the advice from the video and have a good day. Phil Va
I don't know what FCC is doing abut this people that use this illegal power on CB .What happen with 4 Whats .But there radios will quite working soon or later Mike ,and thy will end up in your shop.
If I could only own One Base CB Radio it would be my DAK Mark X.It works great on AM & SSB & is an Audio Monster on Transmit. It is not quiet as loud as a Golden eagle MK IVA on AM but it is great on SSB & the MK IVA SUCKS on SSB as do any Golden Eagle.I even prefer it over my TRAM D201A.If his friend was just a CB Operator he is NOT a SK.A SK is a Dead Amateur Radio Operator because you don't use a Key on the CB just on Amateur Radio. He is a Dead CBer not a SK.
The Term Silent Key has nothing to do with a CB Radio since a Key (CW Key) is NOT used on the CB Radio. I have been a CB Operator since 1965 & I understand that & also as a Ham Operator myself & others have an issue with someone who never was an Amateur Radio Operator being classified as a SK. CB is not, never has been,& never will be Amateur Radio & that is just a fact of life.(Wikipedia: When referring to a person, the phrase Silent Key and its abbreviation SK indicates an amateur radio operator who is deceased.) Amateur Radio operator Wikipedia) (Silent key (plural silent keys) (Wiktionary: A ham radio operator who has died.) {:>)
