how amazing and beautiful.... one of my fav religious mass is Mozart's Requiem... I never heard about Haydn's piece... and today I learn how it has inspired my fav composer's masterpiece! it's like finding the Holy Grail for me!! and I can hear everywhere accents of Mozart's partition.... Thank you so much for sharing!! no share, no grail for me!

I finally came back to this spectacular requiem. "Cum Sanctis Tuis" is one of the greatest choral fugues I have heard.

You may enjoy Peter von Winter's Requiem too, then. There's a computerized performance of it on RU-vid (no actual recording, unfortunately). Winter's Hosanna fugue from the Requiem is easily in the same class.

Brendan Ward : No, this is not correct! This Mass is (K I:8), MH 155 pro defunto Archiepiscopo Sigismundo by Michael Haydn and not the Requiem in c-moll MH 559; Incorrectly attributed to Michael Haydn, written by Georg von Pasterwitz !!!!

Amade and his father even are believed to have PLAYED in the first and two following performances, only what is not known is which instruments each of them played, could have been violin, viola or organ. It's not imaginable they attended 3 consecutive performances, which is proven, and not having participated.
