New to the channel great video I just bought the new S&W M&P performance center 10 mm with the 5.6 inch barrel! Haven’t been able to shoot yet just had rotator cuff surgery last week on my right shoulder and I am right handed. So my first shots will most like be with just my left hand. I also bought a 24lbs recoil spring for it seems that has been the cure the FTF problem that some are having. I was going to buy the spring anyways always good to have extras. Going to use the stock spring for shooting comp with 40 S&W! Once I take it though it’s pieces I will let y’all know how it goes! Great Video thanks 🤟🏻🇺🇸
They do recommend that you clean and lubricate before use. But if you've had no problems I say that's awesome. Thanks for watching brother. Stay safe out there.
@@RonBlackstock I know, and I always do. I happen to have a few m2.0’s no malfunctions with any of them. But wanted to put it to the test cause I know that’s what they do to give it a bad review. Still no malfunctions. Thanks and you stay safe as well brother.
Not really, at this point it's been well documented that there's a mag geometry design flaw (flaws) as well as it being undersprung (RSA too weak for proper 10mm). I cleaned and lubed mine before the range and sure, it runs the plinking ammo fine, but the hardcast Underwoods - not so much.
Hey Ron, Thanks for the great video and review of your S&W 10mm. You mentioned that due to the low bore the recoil is mitigated. How does its recoil compare with your Glock .40? Do you have any information on how many rounds this gun can shoot over its lifetime? I assume that the power of the 10mm takes a huge toll on both the internals/frame and the barrel. What defensive ammo have you tried and what do you use if you have already settled on a specific loading and bullet type? Have you had any issues with the gun regarding reliability or with the magazines regarding feeding? Lastly, have the red dot mounts held up or do you use loctite? And does it hold zero? Thanks again. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.
Another awesome comment that took me a while to address. Sorry for the wait. The recoil is similar to my glock 22c chambered in 40s&w. Maybe only a slightly more intense recoil impulse. Depending on the ammo type. I haven't run anything hotter than Underwood 140 grain Xtreme Penetrator in either pistol and the kick seemed pretty similar if that helps at all. I'm not sure about the life span of the barrel. It may be too early to say. My defensive ammo is Underwood JHP. I haven't had any issues feeding ,extraction, or otherwise. As far as the red dot, I didn't use loctite because I wasn't sure about the red dot that I selected. I thought it would be problematic to remove if I didn't like it. I am happy to say that the mounting screws that came with my M&P had a dot of some type of coating on them that has stood up to everything I've done with the pistol. There has been no need to re-tighten the screws and I love the Burris Fastfire that I am using. Thanks again for the support. Stay safe out there brother.
So did you happen to try any of the heavier loads? i.e. Underwood 200gr and 220gr hardcast? The mag drop issue has been pinpointed to magazine catch window geometry - bullets with wider meplat actually push the release out as they move up the column. It's still a design flaw or a QC fail. Did you even try your carry ammo in it? It might work, but it's not for bears or other large dangerous critters, which is arguably what many people want this for. Thank you for the video.
I'm going to do a video pretty soon about reliabilty issues with hotter and heavier loads. Hopefully we'll learn the answers together. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@RonBlackstock sounds good, I look forward to it. Me, since I only worry about a potential black bear, and these tests are pricy, I got some Xtreme Penetrators to test and if they run, I'll just have one hardcast chambered and a mag of XP when I'm out hunting. That should help them last. I guess even in Alaska some people consider the XP's adequate for griz, so maybe not the worst option. I had considered the G20 before and looked at others in the price range, and if you watch enough videos, seems like all of them have issues with the heavy hardcasts, even if for different reasons. Underspringing seems to be common not just for S&W (probably due to the wide range of loadings).
Great Video! I have the 4.6in barrel one and absolutely love it! Curious, What's your carry holster for it? I assume it's light bearing and optics ready, I've been having a hard time trying to find one.
Thanks for checking out the video. The holster that I'm using right now is by Bravo Concealment. I got it from Amazon. Wasn't sure if I'd like something like that, so I got a cheap holster to test the set up. I ended up loving the thing.
Yes - flawless feeding with "target" ammo - we know. We can do that with a 40 S&W. The problem has been with "the good stuff" ... how about repeat fire with a full mag of Underwood or Buffalo Bore 200-220 gr. Won't stop a bear on the charge if round #2 fails to feed and round #1 missed the mark! - OUCH ... bears bite! 😉
@@RonBlackstock nope, hardcasts don't feed! Give them a try, a full mag, as realistic as you'd carry. Xtreme Penetrators might, that'll be my next test, but the hardcasts have very wide meplats, which end up pushing out the mag release causing a mag drop. And also causing FTF. I know, the good stuff is expensive, but not testing it might make the user a bear meal. The issues with hardcasts are very well documented online as well as the mag geometry flaw is well understood at this point. I feel the pain, too, stuff's expensive. But maybe one is better off with a well-tested 9mm (with hardcasts) vs. an untested 10mm that might just fail under stress when you need it most.
@jamesschneider2091 good observation, that's my experience with 200gr and 220gr Underwood hardcasts. Mag drops and FTF. I want to try Xtreme Penetrators next and also have been thinking about hybrid-loading the mag - chamber a 220gr hardcast, load the mag with rounder bullets like Xtreme Penetrators past the mag release window, then top off with 200gr. Something like that. And I already have 24lb. Galloway RSA and stronger mag springs from Springer Precision, that seems like a good idea even without the stoppages.
S&W support out right told me you can not use underwood ammo in this gun. You can use ammo running at 40 cal numbers fine. But full 10mm loads and this thing is not reliable. Get a RIA 1911 or a Glock if you want to depend on a gun for your life with 10mm. First and last S&W for me.
That gives me an idea for a video... I'm going to test a couple different offerings from Underwood for a reliability test in my straight stock m&p 2.0. I guess we'll find out together.
@RonBlackstock I look forward to it! Also sent my gun back to S&W it will be back to me this week. I will go test and let you know if they fixed the issue, or if it is what it is.
I just ordered my first S&W, I am used to more recoil, how do you deal with the recoil? Anyone have recommendations for what to do first? Ordered 4 different kinds of Underwood ammo and some range ammo from local gunsmith. My plan is to clean it, dry fire a lot, then several range trips to try out ammo and site centering and then use for my EDC. Don't plan to hunt but might find an angry hog on my land that won't let me leave peacefully
I believe it's recommended in the manual to clean her before firing. I didn't have any issues shooting mine right out of the box, but if I had known it was recommended I would have cleaned the gun first.
Hey Ron, I'm rewatching your videos and was wondering just for frame of reference, how much do you weigh, and do you feel the recoil throughout your body? And in terms of recoil management, how hard is it to keep the grip on your pistol between shots? Thanks again. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos brother. As far as the felt recoil of my weapons, that's something I haven't thought much about. I'm about 175 give or take. I have a method that an instructor friend taught me concerning pistols. With my left hand in the front I imagine that I'm trying to bend a horseshoe in on it's self. While also pushing forward with my right hand in the rear. It does a pretty good job minimizing the recoil of a pistol.
Based on the familiarity of the site you are shooting on I guess that you were in the Atlanta GA metro area. This looks like a site I worked on and off for over 20 years in Forest Park. I will not list the name of the actual site. I could be mistaken. I landed on this site because I am interested in picking up a S&W 10 mm given the current $100 rebate.
