Father of M-Pesa Michael Joseph, former Safaricom CEO, talks to CNN's Richard Quest about the future of banking and how Kenya is positioned to lead once again.
The best part is you get to register your phone number to Mpesa once you turn 18! It is literally every Kenyan child's dream. And you can buy airtime, Data, deposit money to your bank account and vice versa, make payments as low as buying fruits from the streets, send and receive money and bail out your friends and family in seconds. You can also use it in other East African countries so you only need your phone and ID to withdraw money on Mpesa agents while on vacation.

@Haruno Mana As a beginner who don't understand how Bitcoin trade really works and you really want to make profit from it. I will advise you to first start working with a professional broker.
sasa kila mtu kwa comments ni kenyan.... just browsing trying to find perspectives from the rest of the world na i can't..Kenyans praising themselves here then going on twitter to complain on our real problems...
Every time is a good time to invest! Investment is n ot a game of chance or luck like the lottery, rather it involves critical reasoning, planning, and diligence and focuses on achieving the major goal (PROFIT). Notwithstanding, one should put into consideration that various externalities may occur during the investment period which could result in a high yield in profit or loss.
Investing in cryptocurrencies means facing great volatility. But that is exactly what makes trading cryptocurrencies interesting for certain trading instruments, such as CFDs (Contracts for Difference).

@@maureenkaki3090 Ok 1st of every country in Africa is gr8 but in all honesty if you want me to disprove that thing you just said your next door neighbour is the best country in Africa as it has more history as well as so much pride also home to some of the most beautiful women on this planet if I may add and contributed to humanity more than your so called greatest country Kenya oh and the country I am talking about is Ethiopia and I am sure you have to agree with that as every body else and if you want me to tell you how important they are just ask and I will tell you and in all honesty even Angola is better than Kenya for me
@@maureenkaki3090 like what I heard their new leader is doing way better and their economy surpassed Kenya and theirs more corruption in your country then theirs I kinda feel Sry for you 😂😂😂😂
The world thinks Kenya is all about running and hungry people. Well all we can do as Kenyans is laugh at all yuh coz this is magical Kenya. Land of geniuses and despite all odds its definitely a country to watch out for.
Great move for CNN journalist taking that chance to market Kenya globally, Kenya a place to be where once innovative becomes true with a promising economy .
my grandma is 96 years old. I send money to her back in the village via mpesa. I dont have to go there. Sometimes i just buy goods directly from a shop near her and ask them to deliver the goods. Thats it.
MPesa is great BUT WHAT IS THIS CNN JOURNALIST UP TO??????? Are they doing a PROMO for CASHLESS SOCIETY? KENYANS BE WARNED. THERE IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE HERE? WHAT DOES IT MATTER TO A MZUNGU LIVING IN USA working for CNN and WHO IS NOT KENYAN that there is MPESA making waves in Africa???? Be careful Kenyans lest MPesa be linked to the Mark of the Beast which the same CNN WAS PROMOTING ON ANOTHER SHOW RECENTLY. Sneaky NWO agents on the prowl. Kenyans DON'T BE GULLIBLE
Some people here, including the reporter are less informed. Imagine in Somalia, they call it EVC and there are no charges. MPesa will charge 0.27USD when withdrawing 15USD and the rate increases proportionally. Using EVC in Somalia, you can send and withdraw without any charges. Good thing, it is also connected to the bakn where you can also withdraw and deposit with zero charges at any time.
Nigeria relies solely on oil, which is why their economy stagnated when oil prices fell. I'd say the leading countries in Africa will be Ethiopia (Which is dubbed the new China and will be the manufacturing capital of Africa due to cheap labor and the fact that Chinese companies are moving there fast) and Kenya (Which will be the tech capital of Africa. That's where tech companies go to test the waters when they're trying to enter the African market)

@@samoche4614 I believe the question was "which country will lead Africa in the next 20 years?" rather than "which country has the largest economy in Africa today?" My answer to the former is Ethiopia followed by Kenya and I gave the reasons for my answer. Nigeria's economy has been shrinking since oil prices fell and the trend is expected to continue for a few more years. Ethiopia, on the other hand, is among the fasted growing countries in the world and as long as they sustain their current growth, they should become Africa's largest economy in a few decades. Kenya and Tanzania have also been growing strongly and they're in a good position to be among the top economies in Africa in 20 years, should the current growth be sustained. Nigeria needs to diversify its economy for it to be among the top economies by 2038. Nigeria's current FDI has done little to save the country from a recession; it's just not good enough if the economy is barely growing.
fckingkim I agree Ethiopia in terms of labour market and in politics is moving forward. I mean 50% of the seats in parliament are held by women where as in Nigeria there is still a halt on women in most employment field.
In kenya we don't need to visit hospitals on small nausea. An mpesa confirmation heals acts as a fuel tu blood pumb . unless you have a chronic disease😂😂 long live mpesa
Please leave South Africa out of this poll. Our focus for the next 20 years will be on domestic issues. We have long learned hard way the consequences of being labeled leader of the continent and we are not interested anymore...
Delta Frost Well, I visited both countries and saw on my own eyes. SOMALI EVC is 10 years old and it is FREE to use. How old M.-Pesa is? on the other hand Iam happy for all these countries development and I would like to see more.

Sad part is that we've never known the team that worked on M-Pesa the devs, the marketers etc. We should have a documentary and hear the story of mpesa through the experiences of these pioneers
NOBODY BECOMES A MILLIONAIRE OR A BILLIONAIRE BY WORKING FOR OTHERS AND DEPENDING ON THEM, GOOD INVESTMENT BRING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, AND CONSISTENCY BRING BILLIONS, THE MARKET IS ALL ABOUT BTC AT THE MOMENT NOW...........
I always tell people Kenya could be Africa's economic giant in 10 years, I came to that realization last year after seeing how democratic their constitution came into play and I still believe so.
@Project Fi Wireless kenya economy is leader in east and central Africa. Kenya GDP is $88bn for 45 mm people Ethiopia is $85 bn for 90mn people. Ghana gdp $ 47 bn for 30mn people Tanzania $52 bn for 57 mn people. Clearly Kenya is richer than all this countries and it is has no minerals. I always say Africa should admire and learn from Kenya. But many countries are rising which is good.
@@ilovejesus9303 I'm Kenyan so I'm just offended by your no brainer. Idk where your from but facts speak for themselves. Kenyans are not American puppets infact if you checked you would have seen how the US is always anti Kenyan and even our presidents are ever fighting with US. We don't joke with people who called us a hotbed of terrorism. Secondly we have high foreign exchange with tourism being our highest revenue earner. Why? Because we have great places to visit . Another thing is the genuine drive to work hard yes people are in the US but then show me a busdiness opportunity anywhere in the world and I'l show you a Kenyan who is already there. We wotk hard we believe in taking opportunity. What do you do? maybe create some in your country before being so negative Nancy.
@@truethots3088 Stop with ur hidden conceitedness. The white guy is a CEO who was hired by the company. The mpesa was an idea developed by a young university guy who sold the idea to them.

Kenya has a very beautiful and brilliant population. They never cease to puzzle me. Apart from our sirkal(government) letting us down, Kenya is an awesome country.
M-pesa was founded by a group of researchers and innovators both local and foreign but working on prototypes in Kenya under Vodafone and it seems it can't be accrued to one individual. Those stories of a student from JKUAT or whatever seem to be fabricated lies.
