M&R vs. ROQ | $5,000 SPEED COMPETITION

IMHO, anyone basing their capital equipment purchase decision based solely on the results of which press was the fasted based on the total elapsed time to set-up and produce 500 pieces of a (4) Color job with (3) *Flash Cure Units is being a bit short sighted. This would be especially true if one of the presses comes with a superior screen-pre-registration system, automatic no shirt detector, and print start / print finish functions that weren’t used to keep the contest fair. I believe the true test of which press is right for you should be measured over months and years with total production qty, the total amount of uptime, and total cost for service and support being some key performance factors to consider. *NOTE: I still have to ask Sam why they were running three flash cure units, on a four-color print. Getting back to Sam’s "Speed Test." M&R is in contact with Sam Schinhofen, and he has agreed to a rematch with the “prize-money” being doubled to $10,000, which the loser of the contest will donate to the Winners favored charity. FYI M&R Printing Equipment proudly supports a number of different charities in the fight against breast cancer, and I’m sure that Sam has some equally worthy causes he supports, so in the end everyone will come out a winner, and we can do some good for the community. Despite our belief that a “one & done” short run speed test is not all that meaningful in the grand scheme of making an informed equipment buying decision, we sincerely thank Sam for his willingness to get behind a great cause, and to provide a little fun for the apparel decorating industry. To keep things moving forward, M&R isn’t placing any complicated stipulations on this “ROQ vs. M&R Speed Test.” Our primary list of requested conditions include: (1) The Presses to be used for the ROQ vs. M&R “Speed Test” print off will be the 20 Station /18 Color ROQPRINT NEXT https: www.vastex.com/Literature/Automatic%20Presses/Roqprint_next.pdf.php vs. the 20 Station / 18 Color M&R Gauntlet III Series www.mrprint.com/brochures/gauntlet-iii-automatic-screen-printing-press-20161103-9r6CnCmVr20144yr.pdf (2) Both ROQ and M&R to have the right to have a Manufacturer Factory Trained Technician visit the Anchored Imprints facility within (7) days before the Speed-Test to inspect, and where required *tune-up their press, and any associated accessories to full operational condition. *NOTE: No non-standard modifications to made to either press by either ROQ or M&R during this pre competition tune-up service call. (3) M&R proposes that all garments be unboxed and stacked on carts ready for printing, with screens, pre-mixed inks, squeegees, floodbar’s, spatulas, up to (5) set -up shirts, and other regular screen-print consumables typically used in a production set-up to be supplied on *carts to be readily accessible to all members of the press crew. M&R proposes that the Speed Test be expanded slightly to begin with an empty press ready for production, to perform set-up, production, and tear down leaving the press ready for the next job. Sam Schinhofen to confirm total number of personnel in the Press Crew for set-up, print production, and tear down operations. *NOTE: Action Engineering makes some cool looking press carts, and maybe they could be convinced to donate (1) for use with the ROQ, and (1) for use with the M&R that we can auction off after the contest with the proceeds going to the winner’s charity. (4) Anchored Imprints and M&R to come to agreement on the design to be used for the Speed Test, to include the number of colors, number of flashes, and garment type, to be printed. Once agreement has been reached, the original artwork, and all relevant specifications to include line count print, order, pms color callouts, mesh selection, etc. to be made available to both competing teams no later than (14) days before competition date. (5) M&R will prepare and bring (1) set of screens for the Speed Test, and a second set of back-ups, that have been imaged and pre-registered using the I-Image Computer to Screen imaging system with M&R Tri-Sync compatibility. (6) M&R reserves the right to use all M&R print quality and production enhancing features during the Speed-Test that came supplied with the Gauntlet III as standard equipment, or that could have been bought as optional accessories at the time of equipment purchase to include. • Automatic no Shirt Detector • Winged Stainless Steel Flood-bars • Test Print, Print Start, & Print Finish • Tri-Sync Screen Pre-Registration Pallet

Great video, but I do have a couple of questions: How are your screens imaged, and why didn’t you use the M&R Tri-Loc (Tri-Sync) system for set/up? Do you not use the Tri-Sync on any of your production jobs, or just not for your speed test? Also, you don’t appear to be assigning any value to the M&R patented “skip shirt” function. Why would that be?

This is great! I would like to see more of the setup process in the rematch. It’s cool to see the presses are pretty close, but seeing how the operators set up quickly would be cool too. For example is the ROQ faster because the operator is using “fetch platen” or because of the team, reg board, or etc

4 screens on my MRs are triloc'd in in less than a minute. Lol .. we set up 12 color designs in 11 minutes.. user error here. Everyone who goes roq ends up going back to MR. All of their ancillary equipment is also far superior in build and longevity. Theres no comparison when commercial printing. MR is an industry standard

No Tri Loc? They set up the M&R crew to lose from the beginning.

You spent all that money on machines and don't have Tri-Loc? I can set up a 4 color job, test print, and go in 5 minutes by myself.

go blue or go home. the gauntlet 3 does make it a bit of pain to register if you dont use triloc. not a fan of that overpriced carnival ride at all
