the saree which amma wrapped, is specially weaved for her and it got popularised as ms blue..... royal blue.... and also she donated lots of her costly silk sarees to needy
the thing is, i barely know what most of the old telugu words in these kritis means, but based on the words you know and the tune, you rarely feel like an "outsider." how sublime.
EVERY WORD AND SONG OF HER IS DIVINE, NO WORDS TO EXPLAIN HER TALENT AND SINGING, ANGEL SENT BY LORD FOR US, THANKS TO LORD. BHARAT RATNA ITSELF IS FACILITATED BY CONFERRING UPON HER. SHE DESERVES MORE THAN THAT. MY SALUTATIONS. SHE IS MY EYES, MR PRANA, MY THINKING,.....AMMA...... U WILL NEVER EVER LET ME DIE............NO WORDS...........
This is a rare kriti in a rare ragam. MSS has rendered it with so much of bhavam! Lovely! Particularly enjoyed the second sangati in the first line of the charanam ... and the violin and mridangam accompaniments are so perfect!!
Superb by MSS Amma Thought I will share my compiled Views ! Devadi deva sadasiva Ragam sindhunmakriya- Desadi Talkam Thyagarajar Krithi Aro - s g m p d n s Av- s n p d p m g s Sindhuramakriya is derived from the 15th melakartha raga Mayamalavagoula. Rishabha is varjya throughout. It has a little resemblence to Kamalamanohari. Svaras taken by this raga are Shadja, Antara gandhara, Sudha madhyama, Panchama, and Sudha dhaivata and Kakali nishada. Tyagaraja had composed two kritis in this raga, „Sudha madhurya‟ and „Devadi deva‟ both set to Desadi tala. Sancharas :- s g , m p , - p d p , m g , - g m p d n , - d p m - g , p m g s - s n p d , n , s , - s g , m p , m - g m p d n s , - s n p d p m - g m p d p m - g m p d n s - d n , s , - s n s s , s , m g , , - m , g , s n p m - g m p d p m - s n p d p m - p d p m g s - s g m g s n - p d , n , s Analysis :- In the kriti „Devadi deva sadasiva‟ - raga Sindhuramakriya, Tyagaraja sings praises of Lord Siva. It is a bhakthi filled composition. Tyagaraja is pleading with Mahadeva. „p d p m g s‟ is a visesha prayoga. Sindhuramakriya has to be handled with some care. Kriti begins with madhyasthayi shadja and ends with madhyasthayi gandhara. Raga ranges from mandrasthayi pancham a and tarasthayi madhyama In this Sanskrit Kruti Tyagaraja describes the glory and form of Lord Siva with many attribtes. Lord of the Devas! SadAshiva! You possess the sun, the moon, and fire as your three eyes. You are beyond the reach of even Brahma, Indra, and others. Peace and calm are your ornaments. Paramashiva! Lord of PArvati, wearing the crescent moon, and with a blue neck with the effulgence of a million suns, worshipped by Vishnu. Friend and relative of those who have none to care for them! Sporting a gentle smile on your face, condescend to grant me devotion to your feet.In this Context it is interesting from the Epics to have a glimpse of of Story of brahmA and vishNu trying to find the beginning and end of Lord Siva. There are tweo versions of the Story Brahma and Vishnu were touring the Universe one day and found a pillar of light which extended farther than they could perceive in two directions. They were curious and decided to split up to see if one of them could find an end. Vishnu went in one direction and Brahma the other, After some time, they returned to their staring place. Vishnu said that he was unable to find the beginning, no matter how far he traveled. Brahma said that he found a beginning. He lied. Thereupon, the Pillar of light immediately changed into a form of Shiva who called Brahma a liar and sentenced him to be little observed in the divine ceremonies. This is why you will not find many pujas to him. 2 ) Another Version Once there was a fight between Brahma and Vishnu. Brahma said, "I am superior because I created you". Vishnu said, "You cannot live without me sustaining, so I am superior." After much argument, Shiva was consulted. To solve the dispute, Shiva created a pillar of light and Shiva said whoever can find the end of this light, will be superior. It was decided that Brahma would go up (towards the sky) and try to find the head of this pillar of Light (Shiva) and Vishnu would go down (under the earth) to find the foot of Shiva. Brahma then assumed the form of a swan and began his journey into the sky. Vishnu on the other hand, assumed the form of Varaha (wild boar) and bored through the earth to descend into the very depths of the world. The two of them went thus on their quest for thousands of years and even still could find no end to the pillar of light (as light has no limit). After proceeding in their quest for so long, the two of them got tired. Vishnu decided to end his search (becoming humbled) and proceed back to the earth. At the same time, Brahma saw a Ketaki (fragrant screw pine - Pandanus Sativa, kewra in hindi and thazhampu in tamil) flower slowly wafting downwards from the sky. He stopped the flower on its way down and asked it where it was coming from. On being questioned by the creator, the flower replied that it had been placed at the top of the pillar of fire as an offering by a devotee and had fallen from there. Unable to find the head of the pillar, Brahma decided to end his search and instead use the ketaki flower as evidence of him having reached the head. Both Brahma and Vishnu came back to the earth in the end and when asked, Vishnu replied truthfully that he had been unable to find the feet of the fiery pillar even after a very long search going to the very ends of the universe. Brahma on the other hand (to prove his superiority over Vishnu) lied by saying that he had in fact reached the head of the pillar of fire and that he had brought the ketaki flower from the top as proof of having reached there. This false claim angered Shiva and he revealed his true form and then cursed Brahma that he would have no temple dedicated to his worship as he was undeserving (as a result of his falsity) and he also cursed the ketaki flower that henceforth she shall not be used in the worship of Shiva (as she had given false testimony when questioned). P dEvAdi dAva! sadAshiva dInanAtha sudhAkara dahana nayana O Sada Siva the supreme lord of Devas, the sun, the moon and the fire are your divine eyes. AP dEvEsha pitAmaha mrgya shAmAdi guNabharaNa gaurI ramanNa Sri Maha Vishnu and Brahma tried to search in vain, for the ends of your limitless body. Patience and other virtues are your ornaments. You shine with the effulgence of a million suns. Maha Vishnu the consort of Lakshmi adores you. Please bestow me the fortune of devotion to your lotus feet. You are the magnanimous succor to hapless. Your face beams with gentle smile. Tyagaraja worships you.

This is not a Thiruvaiyaaru video. Amma performed a concert in the memory of Indira Gandhi sometime in 1986, this is a clip from that concert. I am not sure exactly where this was performed, but definitely somewhere in Tamil Nadu, as MGR is also present
Million thanks V Srinivasan. for your "Yaan petra inbam peruka ivvayyakam" attitude of sharing this video with the world. This is the first time I'm listening to this ragam, Sindhuramakriya, that too in the mellifluous voice of MS amma. I want to hear the "swaram" for this song. What a wonderful ragam ! After listening to this, I just wanted to ask God, "Ethanai kodi inba ragam vaithai iraiva" ?

Karma & Rebirth means We are ACCOUNTABLE for our actions. We take Responsibility. Karma & Rebirth means that we enjoy the Gift of Life, over & over again! Karma & Rebirth means there is no place for a Hell, no sadistic God running a torture chamber Karma & Rebirth means that We EARN everything. A Hindu must never beg nor take anything that is unearned Karma & Rebirth means we Hindus earn Praise FROM God! Anyone fool can praise God, but Blessed are the Hindus that aim to earn Praise FROM God!
M.S.Subulaxmi,the name of the Great Maestro to the statute of Bharat Ratna is synonymous with Sanskrit Devotional Songs .Whether it be the Maa Annapurna Temple at Kashi or the Avadhoota Seat of Guru Gorakshnatha the DailyOpening of the Temple is characterized by the rendition of the Blessed One.Pranam.
Shez not just the empress of Carnatic music . . Shes BhaktiMahaRani down to earth in a woman's form! :) As soon as it comes the namamudra of the composers, amma's hands are joined! :) I never saw that with annnnieee other artist . . Now we see the same with S Aishwarya :) sweeeet :)
Great video. We will always miss MS. Interesting to see Rajiv Gandhi in the audience, along with MGR. I actually attended the aradhanai at Tiruvaiyaru that year. While Rajiv Gandhi attended with good intentions and announced the opening of a new Cultural Centre, his visit ruined the festivities to some extent because of the excessive security restrictions and the mindless arrogance of the policemen.
The woman on the violin is smt Dwaram venkataswami naidu's daughter and no wonder she plays so well.I wanted to know who she was. Thanks for the information Paramparaa!!Would not have known about her otherwise!!! I dont know, but till the spirit of unity concerts came in the TV,people were watching them avidly later the rush for dollar dreams came and turned even the sanest person into an "Anniyan",people kind of became split personalities and forgot the artistic bent of mind in them, unfortunate!
Quite a few politicians in the audience - besides MGR and Rajiv Gandhi, one can see PV Narasimha Rao, and P Chidambaram in the audience. Wonder where in TN was this concert conducted.
Hi paramparaa sir, thanks so much for the information regarding Dwaram mangathayaru garu, because I was wondering who this woman might be.No wonder she supports so well on the violin,a true vidwan she is sri dwaram venkataswami naidu. Thanks for the info sir.
telugu is dervied from sanskrit,so the root words are same as in sanskrit, only difference is that grammar is different. There are very few telugu words that dont match with a sanskrit word.Like ology means study, biology means study of bio-->life and living forms. also kesavam prathi(sanskrit)===towards kesava==kesavu+niki(telugu)
All south Indian languages have same genre. They are all derived from the Dravidian language, called ancient Tamil. Be it Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, all share similar words with same meanings. Infact they share similar words in Sanskrit too. But Tamil Janya Vaadam has been widely accepted, and not Samskrita Janya Vaadam. That's the reason why Tamil was chosen first for the classical language status among myriad languages in India.
