The struggles showcased in rookie historian is the most realistic I've seen in a k-drama, the misogynistic nature of old Korea, the corruption, the limitations put on authors... all of these are issues which still exist in society but in different forms compared to how it was a long time ago. I really love the female character for how strong, independent yet realistic she is. She knows what's right and wrong and isn't afraid to say what she thinks, yet she isn't indestructible and to face against all prejudice put on women and question the social norms of the past in the series is incredibly difficult. Especially since the drama is portraying a period in time where what she is doing is rare and seen as weird and wrong. I don't think I've ever seen a drama battling these issues so upfront. Anyone watching the drama I'm sure would boil in hatred towards some characters at times. I am most definitely fuming in quite many of the scenes yet how they (the directors and screenwriters) handle it is amazing. Instead of making it into a joke or downgrading the issue they really highlight the inequalities. I don't know what more to say then that it's just great, it's high quality drama imo AND it's educational in a subliminal way.
I am watching "Rookie Historian" (신입사관 구해령) now. I am very impressed by her portrayal of 구해령. She enlivens the character with a balanced deliverance of beauty, charm, wit, intellect, and principle. Those are attributes that embody the essence of a Joseon noblewoman. I was particularly moved by the scene in which 구해령 (신세경) sobs intensely while in Prince Dowon's chamber. While 윤미래's "My Dream" resonates in the background, you begin to sympathize with a deeply-hurt 구해령. The apprentice-historian is experiencing loneliness, frustration, suffocation, and helplessness. The kind and understanding Prince Dowon grants her the needed space to express her inner emotions. He, too, having spent his entire life in the royal palace, has experienced lengthy periods of loneliness and isolation. Perhaps that is the reason for which Prince Dowon metaphorically-characterizes 구해령 as a sparrow, a beautiful bird who yearns to be set free. He writes the Chinese Hanja character for bird on her left cheek. Quite the scene to watch again and again!
Yes. You really pointed out the moral of this drama. Which is what is one of the greatest among all the dramas in my point of view. Moreover, the storyline is also one of the basis to love this drama as it has no toxicity and heavy storyline. And cha eun woo and shin se kyung has one of the sweetest and heart touching scene. I really Miss this drama ♥️♥️♥️
I completely agree with you. One of the biggest problems the world has endured for thousands of years and up until our generation is the social norm that we’re too familiar with. Women is seen as a weaker gender than men which I find unacceptable and unjust. Gender inequality hasn’t changed much even in the modern century. Women’s role in our society has shifted a bit but, we still have a long way to go. We only have to see the income inequality between men and women to see that to be the case. The world’s governmental power rest in the hands of a patriarchal system, and even in the religious institution are the same. We can’t see a woman Pope yet, if even we desired to have one, it will never happened. These drama has demonstrated that the role of women in our society hasn’t changed much even though we are getting momentum and have proven ourselves to be reckoned with yet, we still catching up in terms of gender equality. It’s quite off putting after all those years men still wants to dominate us women. It’s no wonder that the world around us is in turmoil. Humanity is at war within themselves because, men is hot wired to roam and populate our planet and destroy the things when they can. It’s sad. There are few good men left. Also, greed plays the major role in the destruction of mankind.
Well, said indeed. This drama has brought so much tears in my eyes when Prince Do won discovered his true identity that had been suppressed for all his life. His feeling of abandonment, unloved, confused, isolated, feeling of imprisonment, deprivation, and the worst kind of abused from his father was heart wrenching part. Yet, he managed to survived and overcome those obstacles. Confronted by the new revelation, all he could think is freedom, and being able to follow his heart’s desires, and live a simple life with his beloved Hae Rae yeong. This drama is well written, and the plots evolved in motion surrounding greed and domination. This drama highlighted that a person’s life experiences can truly defines a person’s character. Ultimately, rookie historian offers us something great to watch and enjoy it. A truly wholesome and lovely drama. The acting are simply superb. I highly recommend anyone to watch it because, it’s an excellent piece of work. A superb assemblage cast which is worthy of recognition. What an amazing drama.
I was deeply touched and moved with Shin Se Kyung's acting during her crying scene. I felt the depth of the emotion that she was portraying. I cried as well! Kudos to you Sekyung ❤️

Im very picky when it comes to watching k dramas and oh my gawd, I’m so happy this kind of kdrama exist!, the inequality and other dirty deeds of the past was well portrayed and I love how the episodes didn’t always focused to Hae Ryung and Dowon but its always about facing the conflicts! 10/10.
I literally don't understand the lyrics, but the melody itself leaves me 😭... I am deeply moved into tears. I so love this historical drama, Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. ♥

When this is one of the must-watch Kdrama that all of us must know. I really love the story, I also learned so many lessons and knowledge on how historians put their own lives at stake just to secure and restore the history that they will give to their descendants in the future. The love between these two main characters also gave us butterflies in the stomach. This is really 100% must watch Kdrama!
