I don’t get the first take. It’s started off as a donk isn’t top five take but then it became about how spirit rely on him so much. That seems like to me, he’s so impactful that his team needs him to perform insanely just to win

Pretty insane. Post player break has Donk had a good series vs top 5 team? I think ZywOo post player break is clearly the best player against top 5 teams.
I think I understand what Kassad means when he says IGL is not a necessary role if you have the right players, its kinda like the total football philosophy of Johan Cruiff if youre familiar with that. His vision was that if everyone can play every position you can achieve a very fluid style of football and it proved very effective (tho obviously not to the extent that EVERYONE is able to play EVERY position). In CS I suppose you could theoretically reach that with players like monesy/niko who clearly have a good read on the game. In fact I think this is maybe kind of what Blade is trying to do in Navi as well with trying to make bit the "playmaker" who is allowed to go for timings/reads (tho im basing that on some comment from either another podcast or just an actual yt comment lol). I just think CS doesnt quite work that way with how taxing it usually is on aim to have to think about the macro play constantly. The closest we wil get to that is teams like current Navi and era Astralis where team cohesion is so good and obviously those teams both have/had very respectable IGLs anyway. @@Catangerine I actually think that we kinda had it in cs in Fnatic ~2016 when they had Dennis. They were just a bunch of great players and most of them had a great understanding of a game so they could be playmakers. But u still must have a guy who is gonna make that last call, like gather all the info from players and make it. It just doesn't work without it since your playmakers are so isolated and you don't want them to kinda overthink and both try to make a play and think of a call at the same time. Also it works better when 1 guy has all the responsibility to call since star palyers in their mind can just blame him and not ruin the confidence in themselves when their call loses them the round (kinda what happened to Niko and yekindar, who thought that being a 2nd called is the same a IGLing)
@@Molsdas Fnatic is a good shout too with players like Flusha, Olof and JW. The dennis roster was considerably worse and achieved a lot less though than the one with pronax (which also had the famous pronax timeouts which would pretty much always lead to round wins for fnatic). And once again thats an era level team like Astralis where it all just clicked perfectly. So yeah I think IGL is definitely an important role that we wont see leaving the game for a long time if ever. I would be super interested to hear Blade's take on this though and how he has approached making this current navi team and how he views the roles of his players because I still think his vision is the closest to it.

jl is insane but if he was in donk position as a aggressive rifle with 3 bot teammates and Shiro who is passive as hell i think he do much worse. same with niko.
Even before the player break, Ultimate was playing out of his mind for Liquid. He's top fragging most games as well. Ultimate is 100% a top 5 AWPer this year.
Going on that last hot take, if Astralis bomb out of the major again, do we see Device to Falcons with Niko? Reunite with zonic and magisk, possibly dupreeh if they keep him over maden, and it gives him a structured IGL in snappi. If monesy doesn’t follow niko, I think that could be a great move for falcons on all fronts, as device is absolutely an upgrade to sunpayus.

I think Liquid (-Yekindar) and Col (-JT) would both be better teams with Hooxi, and it’s certainly worth waiting a season to try and grab that NA bag. Falcons for Snappi is also sort of a wash and a legit option.
Astralis should bring back Hunden and recruit Config. Stop caring about results but make their money by creating documentaries of all the backstabbing drama 😜
