I was issued one of these whilst in the field with the Australian Army in the late 1960s. No instructions, no idea how to operate them, we nearly blew ourselves up a few times, haha! Then I remembered how I used to light the big Primus blowtorch for my Grandfather when I was a boy and we worked things out after that. But after using the little folding stoves and the hexamine tablets, this was like being upgraded from a windowless room to the penthouse! I had to hand mine in when I got transferred to the tank regiment. I have since picked up another which I am unable to get going, but I'll be checking out the gang at oldcolemanparts! Great Video thanks, but seriously, a BioLite? Mateeeeeee, that would be like wearing those silly super skinny tapered jeans. HaHa! Just teasing. I use a Folding Firebox!

Where can I get replacement parts for one? The Rubber in the thumb pump is wearing out on mine.
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 2 месяца назад
Are you talking about the pump tube gasket or the little rubber pip at the bottom. A properly sized oring will work for the gasket in a pinch. Use nitrile or viton rubber components. Viton is better and will last longer but nitrile(buna-N) work well too. For the pips you can use 0.177 o-riing cord and slice off little pieces or use a leather punch and cut them out of rubber sheet. See McMaster Carr.

If it's burning right, there is no smell at all until you shut it off.

Hard to believe these were made so you could burn gasoline in them. There’s no way in hell I would do that. But I think I may try burning diesel in mine just for fun. The old H1 heaters work fine on diesel so I’d be curious because these are technically “multi fuel” stoves. Maybe I’ll make a video on that.
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 2 месяца назад
Uhhh, no. They are not like modern "multi-fuel stove". These will burn unleaded, leaded, and white gasoline. You MIGHT get away with trying a lot of fuels, but you soon find out it's a bad idea. They run best on unleaded and white gasoline for low maintenance and clean burning. Diesel is WAY too heavy and requires more heat to vapoize than these can conduct to the vaporizer tube. It will probably work with a big yellow sooty flame for a while, but it'll be a sooty mess. The stubby vaporizer tube(generator) on these is only about an inch long with a roll of brass screen inside. It will clog up pretty fast on diesel.

Soak the leather in WD40 OVERNIGHT

Your kidding me lolol awesome tip
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 2 месяца назад
@@ordinancesgt6716 That's fine for cleaning it, but WD-40 will evaporate and dry out in short order. It'll get it working for a short time in pinch just fine, and won't damage it though. It just won't last. Any motor oil will work, but pure neatsfoot oil(NOT neatsfoot oil COMPOUND) is what Coleman, the designers recommended(this is a copy of the original Coleman 536. Lots of companies won contracts to make these over the decades). You can get neatfoot oil at farm stores or wherever horse saddles and tack items are sold. That leather is fine, just needs oil. Try to get the leading edge in the tube without it folding back. It will reform to the correct shape on it's own. We were still able to get these in the Army in the late 1980s and early 90s through supply. I ordered one, the supply sergeant stole it for himself, I ordered another one and used it in the field until I PCS'd back to the states in 93. I couldn't get one after that. I started picking them up at surplus stores and ebay and have several now. Great little stoves. In my opinion, the ones made by Coleman, Aladdin, and Rogers are the best in fit and finish, but they all work fine. Just keep you eye on that pump handle. If you see it start rising, shut it off and flip that check valve rubber pip over or install a new one. Enjoy these gems. If you have any questions about them, feel free to reply here and I'll help if I can.

Anyone Know where I can buy one at a reasonable price, and can you get a SILENCER for these stoves? I seen other People put silencers on other types of stoves and I want to know if you can do the same with the Coleman M 1950?
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 2 месяца назад
This IS an M-1950. It just a copy of the original Coleman 536(original M1950) design made under Govt. contract by the low bidders later on. The parts are all interchangeable. And yes you can get silent caps for these and just about any impingement plate(roarer) burner. How well they work over time, I cannot attest to.

how is the fire regulated here, if you make less
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 2 месяца назад
Not easily. You can use less pressure or try to throttle the control knob, but it's like a half a degree of turn from off to full. It's designed as a boiler, not a cooker. You can turn it to the LIGHT position after is warms up to bleed off tank air faster for lower pressure safely but it takes some time. And when the tank gets hot, it will keep self pressurizing. So, while you can do it, it takes some practice, trial and error..
