I do not claim to be 100% on everything, this is a guide to help better understand the weapon. Please follow the policies and procedures for who you fall under.
Any M2A1 Machine Gun Barrel can be shot on any M2A1 receiver. All M2A1 barrels are interchangeable without affecting the headspace or timing of the weapon. There is no restriction that you must use only the two barrels as you describe
You are correct! There may have been a misunderstanding on the barrels. Our unit policy has us verify head space and timing with the barrels that are getting issued with that receiver, hence the same color zip ties on the barrel carrying handle and the receiver. That way we know those selected barrels are happy with that receiver. Once they are back, we can change the barrels around and it doesn't matter. I am not saying those barrels are only married to that receiver till death. However, that could be a situation and policy of other units. But yes, it is possible to do the headspace and timing check with any barrel on any receiver then mix them around if it passed. Just be sure to follow the policy that you fall under.
@@godiamo89 The propent agency made a decesion to "Tag" the barrels by SN for gageing purposes Units had a pile of barrels and would send all the barrels on top or in front of the stack to annuals with different receivers by SN. So most barrels did not get gaged at annuals at all So that turned into the belief that ....
Your videos definitely helped me tremendously get through CSWI I appreciate it! Would love to see some videos of small arms diss/ass if you have the ability!
It's been a while since I looked at my profile, but I might have some of those. Just go to my page, and check out the different play list I have for different fire arms. Once I get to a unit that has fire arms again, I might make more to fill the gaps.
Depends about the top cover, follow your commands policy. If there are rounds in the feed way and we are standing watch on the side of a ship; probably don't want to charge the bolt back for it to feed a round on the bolt face, then open the top cover. You would have to trust your download buddy to catch that round out the bottom and not loose it over the side. If it's range day and hot gun operations, then yeah, it would be better to leave it closed. But the course of fire for qualification might say to open the top first. Hope this helps for the dummy rounds. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-agxg7JNDt_s.html
It's about 95% the same. Still functions the same and shoots the same .50 round at the same RPM. The tolerances might be tighter on the M2A1's but from what I can remember most of the internal and external parts are the same. I know the accelerator stop and accelerator stop lock are now the same piece instead of two. For the Navy, they pinned the timing adjustment nut and breech lock so those can't be moved or changed. The threads on the barrel and barrel extension have been modified to enable the quick change. You can see the barrel is a bit different and the J-Slot that is cut out in the barrel support. Basically they made it more user friendly but the parts you can replace are a lot less. More than likely if something is wrong, you would have to send the whole thing back. But use your references to verify what you can work on. You can also check out my M2A1 disassembly to see the parts. Unfortunately I did not make a video of the original M2 to compare it with.
Sadly we no longer have the M2HB and I am not in a unit that has crew serve weapons at the moment to make more videos. Here is the playlist I have of my other videos that I have done for the M2A1/HB, hope this helps and best of luck to you! ru-vid.com/group/PLFPJQf_U0FId5cGt8BWQqCESYnP_cuhEk ru-vid.com/group/PLFPJQf_U0FIcEyuTdqAPwjqrSw1SPi_YB
Could you do a video on how to check the headspace and timing with this weapon? I'm assuming that the M2A1 has a new headspace/timing gage so it may be different from the older M2.
Unfortunately I’m not in a unit with M2A1’s. But yes, it does have a new M2A1 headspace and timing gage. The armorer checks the head space and timing before the weapon goes out. As long as the barrels stay with the same receiver that it was checked with, the operator does not need to check it again. From what I remember, the gage is similar to the old one. The difference is that there is no “go gage” that you check. There is only a “no-go gage”. And it is all one piece, no chain connecting the head space and timing gauge. You can’t use a m2hb gage, it is different.
@@godiamo89 Okay, but the timing gage will be used the same as the original correct? I'm assuming that when you were referring to the "no go gage" you were talking about the headspace side of the new gage.
@@cameronjaycowan correct, I’m sure once you see it, you’ll get how to use it. And like the M2HB gage it’s etched into the side what it is, “fire” “no fire” “no go”
