I do at least 12-13k per session 2-3 times a week. I'm in tahiti so I get both ocean and lagoon water conditions which help me navigate through both water conditions. Practice makes it perfect. ☺💪💪

Great video. I've been scouring RU-vid looking for some sort of training regimen or tips for getting up to M2O shape. Is there something specific that you could share that really stepped up your game for this race. Be it balance training, strengthening your core, simply putting miles on the board, focusing hard and mastering a solid stroke, etc. Also, I definitely would like to know about the equipment you guys carry during the race and what you could recommend. For example: things that make a hydration pack more favorable than another, such as features, volume, construction, etc. But what I've mostly been wondering about is sun protection. If you can't answer anything else, PLEASE answer this. What sort of sun protection do you use? I can put on an spf 70 or 100 and it'll last me maybe 1 hour before I sweat through it. How can you do 5 plus hours of open ocean paddling and not arrive like a piece of bacon at the finish line? Long comment, but I love all your videos and your insights are like gold to me. Aloha.

Hi David, thanks for the comments. Regarding training and equipment, I wrote some blog posts about the M2O race a few years back with good information, you can read them here: zenwaterman.blogspot.com/search?q=molokai Probably the most important is training in rough water, the rough conditions are probably the most challenging part of the race for most. Regarding sun protection, that's important. First of all I cover up, using a long sleeve shirt and a Shelta hat. I apply several layers of thick, waterproof, tinted sunscreen. I use "little hands" sunscreen for a base layer, let it absorb for a while and then add a thick layer of Vertra tinted sunscreen. It stays on pretty well but does get rubbed off over time, that's why covering up is important.
