Many people forget that for example rendering a video is often a very small part of the whole process of editing videos. So it really doesn't matter a lot whether rendering takes 15 or 20 minutes when the total time editing the video is several hours. Besides you can do many other useful tasks in your life while waiting for video to render
@rfichokeofdestiny
@rfichokeofdestiny 6 месяцев назад
That’s true. The real workhorse problems involve AI, real-time ray tracing, Bitcoin mining, server-like database loads, etc. And if you can parallelize those tasks, you have a real test.

@@jonnanieminen8848 Maybe not as often as other platforms but you’d be surprised. I’m running database, web, and application servers for development purposes on my MBP right now. Congratulations really!!! As a 3d artist, I watched hundreds of videos and nobody could get the blender test right. this is it!!! You tested the right version of blender on a beautiful scene, you compared the metalRT support with and without, this is golden information. I searched for dozens of hours for this. you are great, I found the answer I was looking for! Thanks for a very good review and great content ☺

Results from other reviewers: default settings Classroom: m2 max: 43.31 m3 max: 18 Ripple dreams: m2 max: 38 m3 max: 25 Junkshop: m2 max: 14 m3 max: 09 Barbershop: m2 max: 5.36 m3 max: 1.88 Its kinda sad how they only run one scene and call it a day. Also what about other 3d applications, I get that blender is easy to benchmark and saves you time but it does a disservice to the viewers
@CreatedTech
@CreatedTech 6 месяцев назад
@@mosesdavid5536 It's not sad at all. If you want a super in-depth comparison in a specific app or workflow you need to watch a dedicated video on that topic (after a more general one like my video). Regardless, the Blender GPU benchmark combines several scenes and gives you an average, so it's actually the best indicator of general Blender performance.
@mosesdavid5536
@mosesdavid5536 6 месяцев назад
@@CreatedTech The combined benchmark doesn't make sense... it makes 21% slower than 4060 laptop. Other reviewers say the m3 max challenges 3080 desktop even. So Im not going to believe those scores 100% because optix in my system increases render by at least 50%, while metal Rt only increases 35% over regular. So Im expecting at least 3400-3670
@CreatedTech
@CreatedTech 6 месяцев назад
@@mosesdavid5536 The combined GPU benchmark does not yet support raytracing. Only the latest version of Blender (which was in beta at the time of this video) supported MetalRT. You are also wrongly assuming that MetalRT will have the same performance benefit as OptiX. NVidia + OptiX is still more powerful and above all else, more supported and optimized at this stage. This may change in future, we still don't know. But again, like I said in my previous comment, this video is certainly not supposed to be the "ultimate Blender comparison". It's just a quick look.

For me it comes down to this analogy. I'm currently driving a really beautiful 600 HP sports car (M1 Max). I use it to go run errands, occasional road trip (obeying the speed limit of course), etc.. I love it because it's the fastest (and sexiest) car I have ever owned. The latest model just came out! It's a 900 hp beast (M3 Max)! Now the question is, do I really need the 900 HP beast for the exact same use? In that context, I just don't see trading in the paid for 600 HP car. It does everything I need it to do with plenty of headroom.

I can't see myself needing to upgrade this computer ever unless it fails, it performs all of the video editing, Motion graphics, picture processing, data base and spread sheet work I do flawlessly and fast, very fast. Unless you are really pushing the limit with ray tracing etc the M1 Max is the best value out there.

5:37 Do you mean there is no improvement in that particular workflow? Those are some disappointing pieces of news for DaVinci Resolve users. I like Resolve, but once you apply noise reduction and add Fusion motion graphics, the timeline playback gets sluggish.
@CreatedTech
@CreatedTech 6 месяцев назад
The majority of timeline scrubbing and playback performance is based on the hardware decoders, and all 3 have the same. You can get into really heavy Fusion + noise reduction etc workflows and potentially the gap between M3 and M2 is bigger in that area, but that would likely be a whole separate video to dive into and explore. A big takeaway for me is if you're stabilizing a lot of footage regularly, M3 Max is twice as fast as the others. That's important because in Resolve you can't do anything else while that clip is being stabilized.

Great comparison. For those shopping around, I'll add: less than a week before the M3 Max went on sale, I picked up an M1 Max (14", 64GB, 2 TB, max CPU and GPU cores available) *new* from an authorized Apple retailer with Apple Care for somewhere around $1900 or $2000 less than what a model customized like that would have cost at debut. So far, I've taken it to a professional conference, and I've done plenty of work with it at my desk, away from my desk, and in the air, and I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. For my purposes, this was the right machine--largely because of the storage, ports (especially HDMI and SD), and PRICE. I certainly don't push it to the limit when video editing, which I'm just starting out with, but I know it will give me plenty of room to grow. There are great deals out there if you take some time to look!

Depends on your budget. If you can afford the upgraded M3 Max I would go for that. That being said I don't think you need a fully upgraded version. A base model M2 Max should perform perfectly well. The only upgrades you should think about is possibly a bigger SSD (if 1TB is not enough), and upgrading the RAM to the "next" level up e.g. 48GB or 64GB. RAM is a good upgrade because those apps can use a lot of RAM.

The hard thing for me is that I’m into coding, video editing and 3D modeling/animation. While I’m sure for coding and video editing it is no problem, 3D is another story. I want power and portability, I love the battery life on these MacBook Pro laptops. I have a 2017 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM so it’s not great, it was my high school laptop. While I love the value/bang for the buck of M1 Max, since I do a lot of 3D work I worry it may not be enough. I know the M3 Max laptop seems great but the price is a lot… then there is the issue of the iPad Pro coming out with the M4 chip already. It just makes me think it will be much better to just end up not buying anything new for now and just save up and wait for the M4 Max MacBook Pro 16 inches 😅 I’m sure the M4 Max MacBook Pro will be even more expensive but by then I should have more money saved up and I will just max out the RAM and storage. That iPad Pro M4 chip is too tempting though. I’m waiting for the WWDC announcement to see if the iPad Pro will get some OS updates. But knowing myself, I am more of a laptop person and I am willing to wait it out for the M4 Max MacBook Pro.

If I check the prices between m2 max and m3max the prices are really similar (around 3500 euros). I could get a new M1max for 2500 euros. What I wonder is how long does Apple support their products??? I have a late 2014 macbook pro and use it mostly for regular office works (Word excell...) and also Ableton. And after now 10 years there is no support anymore for my laptop (10years max.) So the most value for buck would be the M1max. But if I have to consider 3 years less support time then I would prefer to spend more and keep my macbook pro longer.
