A lot of people might know rhis, but as far as I am aware, China had a point system for determining who would make olympics by how they performed in international tournaments. Yes Ma long won the world cup, but that wasn't really enough to justify. He didn't really beat any crazy international player to make the finals. Yes he beat Felix Lebrun, but he's not really good at playing chinese players. He beat Togami, but that was expected. In the semifinals and finals he played chinese players and beat them, which doesn't really matter, because with the two person limit per country, it is unlikely he will face any chinese player until very deep in the tournament if he were to participate, so that would be of no use. Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin honestly make much more sense, they've done some great things in tournament and even have been clutch against non chinese players and showed strong mental game. Look at world championships, they were down 2-1 and they still came back to win because of fan zhendong and wang chuqin. With that said for 3rd player for teams I'm not sure whether Ma long will play. Could happen, but there's still a lot of competition. There's Lin Shidong, Liang Jingkun, and Lin Gaoyuan, who are all competing for the 3rd spot. There's also Zhou Qihao, but I think he's 100% not gonna make it, not good enough.
The limit of 2 players per country should be abolished -- it is unfair to some of the best players from a single country. Otherwise, they need to also put a limit on other sports.
They do no wish to see all Chinese players win 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc dominating position to embrace other country players and hurt their self esteem. Therefore we see this wield competition system.
I wouldn't want to see too many athletes from one nation but maybe if there was a wildcard system to allow a particular player in circumstances like this
I like how you shared your own opinions on table tennis matters. This kind of content is what keeps table tennis interesting and engaging. Sadly there aren't many channels like this. The best two I can think of is emrat and GTT but it's not enough to be honest. RU-vid needs more of these channels. Your channel might be small now but I believe it will grow as the niche is pretty interesting. I've subscribed and looking forward to more of you opinions in the coming future.
@@TableTennisOpinionswithAsh Chuqin for the triple at Saudi Smash and 2 singles men Smashes in a row. Not really worried about him getting gold at Olympics and on a 95% winrate atm. I just miss the Chinese penholders legends lol.
Ma Long not making the team is completely fair and square. He has never won any WTT singles titles since the establishment of WTT more than 3 years ago. In fact, he didn't even reach that many WTT finals let alone win titles. Losing a lot to so many foreigners like Lee Sangsu, Franziska, Lin Yunju and most recently Jang Woojin. He even lost to teammates like Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun. Yes he did play well in the World Cup but that is too late as he past average WTT performance resulted in a huge point gap diffference between him and the top two Chinese players making him unable to qualify for Olympics even with his impressive World Cup win.
@@geraldcarino5009 hH did. Even WCQ did but at least FZD got a couple of WTT singles tournaments under his belt. Ma Long at the moment is still at 0. Winning the world cup was too late for him as his ranking points severely lack behind FZD that's why he didn't qualify not just because of losing to foreigners.
I think ma long won 2020 wtt Macao singles. But agreed, he didn’t make the cut for Paris. Glad that China didn’t play favorites and made their decision based on merit
Ma Long is an all time great of the sport, that's got to mean something right? Sentimentality and how we feel about the players matters from a fans perspective. Selectors have a different priority,. which is understandable
@@TableTennisOpinionswithAsh This has been an ongoing issue for as long as I have been following the sport since the mid nineties. The higher-ups want to prevent China winning in all sorts of ways other than the rest of the world actually getting better. This was already a travesty when the limit was three players, with dominant world number one (and my favorite player of all time) Wang Liqin not playing in the 2000 Olympics despite being the world number one. Instead of fixing this, they go the other way and DECREASE the limit from three to two so that China cannot get all the medals. Xu Xin never got to play singles at the Olympics. Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun never will either. The two-time defending champion is missing out this year. Meanwhile, you have relatively worthless players from countries that suck at table tennis who are like five-time Olympians and can play every time. In terms of level, the Olympics are far inferior to any decent WTT event (though at least they have not adopted the ridiculous best of five format for the earlier rounds - WTT is also a joke, but for different reasons), which is insane.
