Mabel is very popular now in Turkey . His songs stay at number one for weeks . Especially latest song Oyle Kolaysa. His videos are always creative , this one looks colourful and fun but the song hss deep meanings. He is the writer and composer of this song and most of hus songs. English translation may mislead you since he uses too many synonyms in Turkish . Name of the song is what are these issues in English. Aman! means Oh! in English but not 100% matches it...
Hi Dylan :) Yes, Mabel Matiz is very popular in Turkey, indeed. His latest album "Maya" was released back in July and it's his most popular album so far. Almost everyone loved every song in it. It's a double album and has 23 songs in total. He uses different themes and motifs in each song from Anatolian and Middle-Eastern culture and brings them together with more popular and electronic sounds in the album. For example, in one of the songs he uses Anatolian folk music style and instruments and then he switches into Sufi music in another one. He uses Aegean/Mediterranean themes in one of the songs and then he journeys into arabesque in another. He sometimes performs pure modern Turkish pop and sometimes he uses Ottoman-kind of old Istanbul themes. He even has the Turkish counterpart of Madonna's "Vogue" in the album (Yıldızların Peşinde). And the best thing about the album is that it has a 90's sound and style overall. It has a very contemporary yet nostalgic feeling at the same time. It's an instant classic and arguably the very best Turkish pop music album in a decade. I strongly recommend you to add "Maya" on your Spotify list. I'm sure you'll love it. The two videos you reacted so far (Öyle Kolaysa and Ya Bu İşler Ne) is from this same album, as well. He's shooting the third video right now and we're eagerly waiting for it. And this song is actually about two lovers who separated and one of them has to deal with the pain of being forgotten. He says he's hurt from the bottom of his heart and wonders if there's a cure for this wound. He imagines two lovers as standing on a cliff and hints that their arms aren't long-enough for them to come together. He talks about what's hurting the most is not to forget but to be forgotten and love means letting the one you love go. But in the chorus he realizes there are much more important things going on in life and says "Never mind me but what about all of these things/issues? The world collapses and our heads are on the ground (meaning we don't do anything about these issues so we drop our heads maybe with shame because we don't take action against such issues and we don't have anything to say). And the music video has lots and lots of symbolism about these issues. For example, the woman hand with the luxurious rings moves around the globe implies that the world is ruled by rich elite, the banana phone and the chain around his neck most probably imply that we became something like slaves to the sex culture, the part with the water guns on his head implies the violence and cruelty to those who are "othered" (racially, sexually, religiously etc.) and the part with a hand offering money to him (probably to buy him out) and he refuses it strictly means we can say "no" to such things etc. At least, these are what I can interpret myself from it :))
he is openly lgbt+ singer and i'm proud of his success in turkey. he is very creative and his lyrics are meaningful and great to listen. thanks for the video 💜
Mabel Matiz is a famous, creative and great singer in Turkey he has a different style as special to him. And this video clip was awarded may be you wanna know :) everyone commentate this video from different perspectives but basically it is criticism of popular culture as you see in every scene we see carpet there is same figure in Mabel and this is for criticism for the people who always wants to look same with others and to be afraid of being different. There are toy guns and they are for the people who can’t accept each other’s differences they are our guns which shoot each other sociologically. The song basically says we can be different and nobody can change for anybody. But these are just my comments. And everybody has their own ideas i’ll respect them 😀 btw you’re good I hope you really enjoy with Turkish culture. Have a nice day.
Mabel Matiz is a very popular singer in Turkey we really love him and his songs. I think you should check out the new song of him named "a canım". Love you Dylan ❤
Yeah the song is pretty serious actually! He criticises society, the political situation (especially perception and treatment of LGBTQ+ people in Turkey) there are many hidden and subliminal message in the lyrics and in the video of course :) Great video as always! Greetings from 🇩🇪 :)
Between the lines there is a criticism of popular culture and social life in this song. The characters in the video actually represents this criticism in an exaggerated way....
'Ya bu isler ne' ; als je het letterlijk vertaald is het 'wat zijn deze werken' , maar het wil eigenlijk 'wat is dit toch allemaal' zeggen. Mabel Matiz is inderdaad heel bekend in Turkije. :)
