Mac was so good man. Lyrically top tier but his delivery was too chill for alot of people so they didn't really listen

You really need to get into his non rap songs, he's a genius the way he looked at life was insane. Mac Miller was able to show you how he saw the world, he would put all of his emotions and feelings into a song and made it as best as can be. Check out his last album he literally States how he felt after his breakup.

so many songs on mac that go unheard by so many. this is one of many gems he has in his discography. he's one of the greats that not too many legitimately recognize. ofc bc of his death many will overhype him without having listened to what his discography had to offer based upon their nostalgia. but when i tell you this man had bars, incredible production and unrivaled cadence im not over exaggerating.

I consider Mac Miller to be the chill version of Kendrick Lamar. I know that might not be a popular opinion, but it’s what I think. He rhymes and flows naturally, something that I don’t really see in many modern rappers.

cool review dude glad you seemed to like it. song is dope, but really it's the references that make this song so good. mac gives us deep insight into his spiritual and emotional struggles. **this is all just my thoughts. not facts. but think hard about this and honestly this makes a lot of sense, especially after listening to Mac's last two albums, Swimming and Circles. "the industry a lie all the promises were hollow". this song is called rap diablo, and this line is a reference to Mac metaphorically selling his soul to the rap game and all of the glory and promises that Mac perceives to come with being a famous rapper. right after this line he says "follow Me, I could show you where we bees at". this is a reference to Jesus Christ telling Peter and his brother to leave their lives as fishermen and to "follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men". This was basically Jesus inviting them to save the world with Him. "I'm not a hero, I'm amphibian. fake superhero like the mystery men. I aint saving nothing". >> this is a warning to Mac's fans. it's like in his song New Faces when Mac says "you are drinking from a shallow soul". Mac knows that he is idolized by some of his fans, but he doesnt have the answers that they are looking for. Mac was depressed himself. He was struggling with life, especially spiritually. He knew that if people followed his path in life, then they would end up like himself. "Im getting faded til the angels come and skipping all the famous functions" >> deepest line of the song. this is a reference to when Jesus is being tempted by the devil, (Matthew ch.4) and the scripture says that Jesus resisted the devil, "then the Devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him".... but Mac couldn't resist the devil, and he wasn't led by the spirit like the scripture says that Jesus was. Instead, Mac sank deeper and deeper into his drug use as a coping mechanism, waiting for the angels to come and save him. "skipping all the famous functions" Mac was even avoiding his reward for giving his soul to the rap diablo. He didn't find happiness in the famous functions, or even in the money. In Mac's song Small Worlds, he says, "you never told me being rich was so lonely". "I find Jehovah in the darkest places" >> pretty self explanatory. the thing I find interesting is that Mac says he finds God, instead of God finds him. In the scriptures, God says that if you seek Me, then you will find Me. The insight that I take from this is that when Mac is in those darkest moments, he reaches out spiritually and seeks to find God. "empty as apartment basements" >> a metaphor for the current state of Mac's soul. "this a marathon, gentlemen go ahead and start the races" >> the Apostle Paul refers to his work of spreading the gospel of Jesus as a marathon race, where he has to endure many trials such as being imprisoned and crucified. "lost inside my mind, it's a prison homie, leave me be" >> self explanatory Mac starts talking directly to the Rap Diablo here >> "Look at what you did to me. Look at what you did to me." **repeated twice to let that sink in "Running to the underworld with guns and set the sinners free" >> I have a lot of speculation for Mac's emotion on this line. I think it references the chorus of "Everybody got dead homies". Mac has friends that have died as sinners and Mac wants to save them from hell. give it another listen with this in mind. gives me chills. Mac is two years older than me, and I've gone through alot of the same things that he has expressed in his music. I'm grateful for his life, hoping he made it to Heaven
