Thank you so much for telling us which skin tone the paint pots are best for. I always appreciate you assuring me that mature gals can wear a bit of shimmer. I 'm entering that age bracket and have switched to mainly matte eye colors but a girl has to add a touch of shimmer every now and then! I'm just so appreciative of your insights, which are just leaps ahead of the typical "guru."

Love the groundwork colour best, such a cool brown mole taupe!!!!!

I've got Soft Ochre & Painterly & love them both. They look amazing under shadows & make blending easier due to their finish. They're also both very opaque. Soft Ochre is more yellow based & Painterly is more pink toned. But they both work really well on my own skin tone. Hyperviolet is GORGEOUS! I took home a rather large sample & went back to buy bc it's so pigmented & rich. Doubles as a beautiful liner.

Gotta love Mac! And their paint pots are just spectacular!

I love MAC paint pots, so easy to work with some of my fav combinations are vintage selection with constructivist in the crease, also for an added pop, putting tan pigment over vintage selection! So many of my brides love this combo. I also love rubenesque with quite natural in the crease and again for more of a pop melon pigment over the top of rubenesque!

i use painterly almost every day, i even use it on a short shading brush to brighten the water line, as fleshtone eye liners seem to be slipping from my watery eyes, and my sensitive eyes have never had a problem with that so far. i love your positive attitude, cheers!

Thanks for recommending this great product. I am a mature woman and I recently bought two matt shades. They even out all discolouration and work wonderfully as a primer on my oily eyelids.

I use Mac paint pot as a colour corrector all over my face, eyeshadow base and spot concealer. The trick is to use little amounts and pat gently with fingertips, to melt into the skin. Applying with a brush especially on the face can make it crease.xx from Australia

I LOVE painterly paint pot!! I wear it everyday alone or with color on top. Its the best!

Hey I went to mac yesterday and the artist there told me you can use them on their own OR as a primer under shadow... she said the best one for use as a primer is bare study (for light skin) because it is the one that's generally going to naturally brighten the eye up and not 'compete' with other colours if you want to use other shadows. Hope this helped :) x

rubenesque looks gorgeous on medium skin tones and groundwork is a fantastic colour also!

I love MAC paint pots. As Wayne says, the shimmery ones are a little trickier than the matt ones but still very good. If you have dry eyelids you can also try the MAC paint tubes, which are a little softer and easier to work with. Although you don't get as much product with those (but they don't dry as easily in the container).

I actually use bare study as a highlighter on my cheekbones, as well as an eyebase! It looks amazing on the cheeks. It's very shiny, but it looks beautiful! x

I am very fair skinned (NC15) and the Painterly paint pot works perfect as an everyday primer for me! This is one of the only ones I've found that works well with my skin tone. :) I love this product also. I have hooded eye shape and it doesn't cake up along the eye crease like some other products do that I've tried.

Idyllic is gorgeous on hazel eyes, painterly is the best base for keeping shadows in place along with groundwork, love them all, far superior to any eye primers that I have tried.

Love Painterly as a eye shadow primer and can not live without The brown one to do my eyebrows. Nothing compares to using that.

If you have dry eye lids will it otherwise work if you apply lotion first or a serum . Do you think it would help with the application for someone with dry eyes?

Try the MAC paint pot called soft ochre. It's this beautiful very pale skin color. It creates the most lovely lid base for light to medium toned skin.

I love my paint pot! Best primer ever and I haven't experienced any creasing. I've had mine since September/October and used it almost every day, you can barely see that I've used it :D

You are most welcome, I am pleased my tip can help someone else. I don't change the cling film very often, maybe every few months or so? I do have a lot of cream products in jars & I tend to change all of them at the same time (a mini weekend cleanup project lol). Do remember when you are using a gel product (any cream product that won't run) to turn the jar upside down on the cling film when you have the lid off. It is just an extra precaution against air getting into the jar :)

Would you recommend using the color layin low as a color corrector for dark circles?

You should get Indianwood. It's absolutely stunning antique gold with bronzy tone. Works with my pale skin and really makes my blue eyes look amazing. But i would say it would look even more beautiful on darker skin.

I LOVE MAc paint pots. and I have to say: I have quite oily eyelids and I ALWAYS use a paint pot as a base. because they do set and if you put a powder eyeshadow on top the last very very long!

when i find that someone has dry eyes either i use just a cream color base by MAC or i use a paint pot and soften the matte paint pot with a cream color base. usually this is the trick and it makes the eye shadow look soft and pretty all day long.

@pinkpearlpetty I have been taught it depends on how finely milled it is. And also shimmer can be different to glitter.

I agree, but to continue on this subject, maybelline has for a while now a metallic line of these color tattoos and the shade called ''barely branded'' from that line is pretty close to the mac bare study paint pot :)

Hi. I happened to see your comment here about the paint pots drying out. Just wanted to share with you that I've had great success by taking a creamy lotion or moisturizer and just swirling it over the top area of the product. You have to repeat it every few weeks, and you can't mix it into the whole pot. Just the top portion. This works great for me. Give it a go.

Totally agree about the shimmer paint pots. Some are hit and miss. I got Morning Frost which was limited edition. It's almost a taupe frost type of colour and I've had no issues with creasing or sparkles or anything! =)

could you use the last two (bare study & rubenesque) as highlighters of the face? i.e. to your cheekbones, bridge of nose etc

I love paint pots too, in fact I love cream eyeshadows generally. Something I have found that helps stop cream products in a jar from drying out is to place a doubled piece of plastic cling wrap over the jar & then screw the lid on. The plastic doesn't interfere with the threads on the jar. I have been using plastic food wrap on my cream products in a jar for about 6 or 7 years & I have never had a cream product dry up on me. I hope my tip helps someone else :)

My eyelids are veiny and transluscent with a weird texture. These did not work for me, looked crusty. I been looking for something to make a clean canvas on my lids since the early 90s lol. I'm close to giving up.

No they can still crease, but I notice if I powder mine and then apply shadow it lasts a lot longer.

@loriann0216 I think you're talking about the fluidline. MAC fluidline eyeliners, which are gel eyeliners are a completely different product than paint pots although they have similar packaging but they're completely different.

I agree.....paint pots are great.......painterly is my absolute favorite!

Oh Imaginary is GORGEOUS! & rubinesque (sp?) too....lovely. Quick, maybe even silly question....I still use an eyeshadow primer underneath painpots & the Maybelline Eye Studio pots (they remind me of the painpots in consistency). Am I just wasting time with the primers since the painpots do serve as a good base? THANK YOU!!! :-)
