Fun Fact: this video was upscalled to 16K resolution but was compressed down to 8K because RU-vid cannot support anything higher than 8K.
This is the last time I'm doing it.
Update 3/16/2022: Wow this blew up suddenly. I had a lot of critiques on this video and a lot of shit thrown my way towards this video saying how there were a lot of artifact bugs, I was known as a shitty upscaler. I only worked on this project to experiment with it. I decided to make one last attempt to fix those bugs (while also upsampling the audio to make it sound more clearer and nice), if you are interested (and manage to read this part of the description) here is my last attempt to fix those artefactual bugs.

It's delightful to see this in HD but there's something bout the lower resolution version that is so charming. Just like how the 80's people saw it from their televisions back in the day.

Agreed. While the quality is astonishing, and it's neat to have this for reference, the old, lower res version, with it's subtle hiss and warm, mild blurring of the image, is iconic. Sometimes a thing's flaws are a part of its beauty.

But they would have seen analog copies. Early digitization was poor and made things look pretty bad. So what they saw in Analog would have looked better. Not all pixelated like the "original" digial copies.

This is where interpolation actually looks decent, I never understand why people force it on animation where it's all blurry and not stuff like this where it makes the original product look so much better.

I don't think the interpolation looks better. It's too smooth, it gives the food a plasticity. The reason it doesn't look so garbage is because the camera is slow moving but it still removes the glide it has.

for the past year or so i’ve been listening to a ton of Bobby Darin, on one of his albums “That’s All” the first track is titled “Mack the Knife”. I was watching a video before this when they played a snippet of this commercial and I swore I recognized the song, and now I can confirm I do! Technically they were. All those old commercials you see on RU-vid were recorded on VHS which always had worse quality, especially in the 80s PLUS they degrade over time too.

The drama about this character (correct me if i'm wrong) For short, some people, i think from 4Chan or a website like that, used a character mamed "Moonman" that looked exactly like the Mac Tonight character (i'm not sure if they are the same. If i'm not wrong, they are different characters that simply look the same), then used him on a racist website to say.... Things, giving the character a bad reputation (associate it with racism, of course) and leading McDonalds to get rid of everything they had about Mac Tonight (statues on restaurants mostly). Sad because the character was so iconic and looked cool
