There's a new addition to the macaque crew at Chester Zoo! This tiny baby monkey has plenty to learn about its new family - luckily the keepers are on-hand to make sure things run smoothly.
From The Secret Life of the Zoo Season 2 Episode 3: Illness strikes the Humboldt penguin chicks. The radiated tortoises are joined by two new females from Sweden. Sulawesi macaque Lisa gives birth and dad Mamassa is being useless so older brother Beaker steps in to help with the babysitting. Andean bear Bernie is determined to woo Lima when she enters her short window of fertility.
The Secret Life of the Zoo follows the keepers and animals at Chester Zoo, one of the UK's largest zoos. From cheeky orangutans to peaceful penguins, this show offers fascinating tales from the animal world.

Dear Foggy Day, gosh I just love your name since I grew up in the fog and fog is such a magical thing. The caregivers at Chesterfield Zoo in The UK , are extremely attentive , caring , mindful and. Observational. They believe letting nature dictate the course if things, but they will intervene if life and limb of young are in serious peril or they are in in danger of being killed , abandoned or rejected. Watch their show SECRETS OF THE ZOO on Animal Planet ,ALSO featured on Nat Geo Wild You will see the tenderness, sincere love and affection these individuals feel for their non human charges. Seriously. It will change your mind forever .

@@lisar.veneziano1517 actually, according to the last video of theirs I watched they claimed that is not the case. The title was something like baby spider monkey traumatized by birth. They were saying they were very concerned that the mom was not adequately caring for her newborn and it was becoming dangerously weak yet they stated that they would do nothing about it and not take and care for the infant because "it would not survive and the mom would be unhappy if they did!!(what???) I couldn't believe they were saying that was their standard procedure/policy!!

This entire video is utter bullshit there's not an expert primatologist in this entire group. I don't know where they come up with half the shit they say. With an absent father? This subspecies of macaque and almost every single subspecies of mechanic never know which male is the father for a crazy. It does not necessarily mean just because there is an alpha male near or in the group actually it's a matriarchal pack so they're never in the group they are in a bachelor group that follows close by but I digress . As I was saying the alpha male is not necessarily the father there are other bachelors that follow closely and sneak in to mate with the females in the group. There's even a couple of Runners up to the alpha that he will allow to have contact with the females in certain subspecies of macaque. Most if not all National Geographic or other produced documentaries like this shit are made up as they go along. They show the female for example dragging after birth and then in the very next Cliff which is supposed to be a few minutes later they show a two or three week old female infant being inspected by more than likely sisters of the birth mother. And then in the very next scene they call it a male LOL They simply take a bunch of footage of these animals piece it together and try and make some kind of story out of it to slap a documentary together
@ClownWhisper
@ClownWhisper 3 года назад
Also they show this beaker and say that how unusual it is etc etc etc yeah it is unusual in the wild because male mechanics are driven off long before they reach this stage of maturity LOL. They're driven off to live in Bachelor groups far from the females typically. There is like I say a bachelor group that follows the matriarchical group but it's not where The Offspring go they go. There's a rule there not accepted in the neighboring Alpha group and are driven off even farther to other Bachelor groups further away this is how nature ensures a very low likelihood of interbreeding.

@@ClownWhisper these people are from the Chesterfield Zoo in the UK they are on a show on animal planet called SECRETS OF THE ZOO. they are very very responsible and sincere caretakers of ALL of the animajs in THEIR care. They are the furthest thing from bullshit you could probably ever get. The British are not very sensationalist on film or radio ( in print yes ) These people are very matter of fact and REALLY DO LOVE ALL OF these creatures and Consider them family. You should research the source of the information before criticizing. I can't think of more responsible & educated keepers than these people. There are animals that would no longer exist on Earth, if it were not for the Chesterfield Zoo crew. I would post a recant seriously I can't imagine ANYBODY hating on this group of caring , hard working, conservationist British folk accross the pond. These people spend more time with these animals than their own families, so I can say most definitely YES, they are coming from a place of knowledge & intense extendended familiarity.

These are Sulawesi created macaques. They only live in one tiny area on the island of Sulawesi and are critically endangered. . There are 22 species of macaque. The “long tail” and “pig tail” species RU-vid has so much of are absurdly prolific and anything but rare. The Sulawesi however are rather rare.

How is it that these people don't have their information straight? Much of what they are saying is incredibly inaccurate. It's not only extremely disappointing, but also quite unbelievable, that people who spend so much time with these animals could have their facts so twisted and misconstrued. Truly appalling, if you ask me. What idiots, people are.

@teresacastro1263 2 года назад
@@philipnewlun9641 The professionals in the video did not get anything wrong. There is a youtube community that is into seeing these infants abused and spreading misinformation about them. The abuse is pretty horrific as they enjoy watching these infants freak out. There are articles about it. RU-vid is being sued for providing a platform for the abuse. The video breaks down how there is a lot of interest in the infant, leading to unwanted attention and maybe the infant getting hurt. They mention how the male stepping up to babysit is unusual by often there are females in the group the new mothers can trust with their infants. The video is accurate it just does not allow framing the situation as the infant needing discipline or the constant attention as being the infant's fault

@@teresacastro1263 I totally agree with you. Thats why i was asking what they got wrong? People for some odd reason compare baby monkeys and Infants. The Black Crested Macaques are one of the most docile and unlike other macaques they raise there young in groups. like baboons men take up a father/ babysitter role instead of trying to kill others young. I compare Sulwasesi to other Macaque groups, like i compare chimps to bonobos.
