Most occupation forces are hated, but, General MacArthur's unusual empathy and fairness towards the Japanese was notable. His occupation administration reformed the ancient corrupt feudal system with a modern democracy. His legacy was applauded which was confirmed by the Emperor's personal farewell.

Remarkable footage. Modern Japan, a wonderful nation, is in significant part a result of the work of MacArthur's enlightened administration. Whatever his faults and failures, he is one of last century's greatest military leaders.

He left a lasting impression on the early postwar generation of Japanese. Years later, they still rated him as "the best general" the US ever had -- whether historians agree with that or not.

Astonishing that 6 years prior they were mortal enemies that saw each other as unhuman monsters.

@@pmccoy8924 The greatest honor you can give an enemy upon their defeat is to let them maintain their dignity. He arrived in Japan as a Conqueror but left as a friend. Allowing the Japanese people to maintain their dignity.

İlk defa daha bir Türk ile karşılaştım. Her neyse, Hirohito'yu akladılar ve onun itibarını kendilerine bağımlı bir ülke haline getirmek için kullandılar.

How weird. A military general as if he were some Caeaser type emperor. How much gold was pulled out of the Philippines by MacArthur & Co.?

You mean the Philippines that the United States won in a War against Spain and decided it should be given back to the People for self determination? The only reason the Philippines is an Independent Sovereign Nation today is because of the United States.
