𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟯𝟬 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯.
In May this year, a body was found on a beach in Macassar in the Western Cape. The victim, a young woman, had been brutally raped and murdered before being dumped in the sand. There were no witnesses, and over the next few days, three more bodies were discovered in this small community. But it wasn’t always like this: elderly residents who have lived in the once-peaceful fishing village their whole lives recall happier times. But in the past decade, conditions have deteriorated so dramatically that Macassar is no longer safe, with gangs from inside and outside the area roaming the streets. With the police apparently powerless to help, Macassar is under siege.

As an avid fisherman in SA in the late 90`s and early 2000`s I decided to give it up when it became as necessary to have my 9mm on me while fishing as it was to have a cooler box full of bait and a tackle box full of weights, sinkers and hooks... What a shame that NOTHING is sacred in SA any more...

Most of the time the kids are forced into the gangs, either by threat against their families or they have nothing else to do. Let them learn and educate themselves so when things change they can get a job.

South Africa's police service is entirely controlled by the central government. They ultimately make all the decisions. The Democratic Alliance has long sought a federal system where the individual provinces become responsible for things like their police force, water supply and so on, but the ANC opposes this because they don't want to release their grip on power. If the local government were given free reign to fund, recruit, train and allocate police resources, then we could blame the Democratic Alliance. It looks like what is happening is the gangs in the nearby areas are spilling over into neighbouring areas. It's a constant problem that requires the national government to provide sufficient, high quality police to these areas.

Macassar is the best place to catch fish. The only time we go there now, is when there are competitions. As you cant come on your own. You MUST go as a group

that is a doomsday cycle. Poor nations have hardship and are nothing on this scale of violence. Drugs and addiction, lack of authority and discipline causes this situation. People have left countries to build new homes with nothing but the skills and cloths on their backs, you are making excuses for predator behavior. Millions have it hard but choose to work a minimum paying job to start at the bottom to climb up, these criminals do not like this idea and rather prey of the hard working classes. Inequality is nature, even in gender or genetics, never mind wealth and position. If I am born with one arm, I dont not expect you to cut yours off for the sake of equality.

Under Apartheid there were clean and safe areas, nowadays since every public service has been neglected by the new government, many areas and services have become unsafe, unclean and out of bounds for ALL citizens (unless you're a criminal). We were on the right track, almost had utopia and just as democracy came the things started to go downhill. Such a shame, now all citizens can't enjoy such areas.

Such a monumental beach was supposed to have 24hr beefed up security so that locals and tourists can enjoy the beach. The government is able to sponsor such security but they won’t because their greed comes before the nations growth. 🇿🇦

@@0BuLLeT01 not necessarily. Provincial governments have the authority to appoint provincial commissioners, who can exercise power over policing in that province. The DA has majority rule over the provincial gov of the Western Cape.

They also cannot simply magically have enough police to combat the gangs that are the problem in the slums and areas adjacent to those slums.

This is why I will never vote for the DA again. They only take care of their own and "others" will never benefit. Then we get most DA members blaming ANC for an entire DA led province. I am not a fan of ANC either but people know this is the DA camp. Gugulethu, Khayalisha etc. are great examples on how horrible they are and think CT is an entire WC province.

SAPS falls under national government. Local government have no influence over them. This is the very reason why Metro police and Law Enforcement exist - because SAPS can't fulfil their mandate.

Ridiculous claim. The Democratic Alliance does all it can for those poorer areas. The councillors for Khayelitsha and Gugulethu are in fact ANC. So stop whining about the DA. They rightly blame the ANC for things the ANC controls, like national policing, power generation, water supply and so on.

@@kurhula The City of Cape Town municipality does not control every aspect of government within Cape Town. The municipality is already employing hundreds of policing officers on its own account, but ultimately it does not have the same budget that national government has. The SAPS is entirely controlled and funded by the national government - but the national government is more concerned about protecting ministers and other officials with VIP security (and they have no regard for regular citizens). Basically the province needs greater autonomy to be able to take over (and improve) electricity, rail, policing etc.
