Macaws screaming to go outside… 

Quick disclaimer Both of these birds are free flight trained and have been flying outdoors almost daily for about 4-5 years. To free flight train a bird takes time and patience, anywhere between 3-6 months for a flighted bird. It’s a lot of desensitisation, positive reinforcement, a bunch of recall training, a great diet etc. There are professional free flight trainers and experienced mentors which help. It’s great that they can tell us they want out by looking slightly unsettled, screaming and staring outside haha. We are in Bedfordshire UK where most of the birds of prey around us are either scavengers or would never even attempt to take down a bird like a macaw so no real risk there. Noise wise for the neighbours, their are only loud a few mins a day, after a few flies, they chill out a lot and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Hope this answers everyone’s questions and DO NOT let your untrained birds fly out your living room doors!

I would adore it if my neighbour had a Mikey and Mia. They are very well trained and their calls are amazing.

I worked at a doggy daycare and my boss had like 50 bajillion macaws. They were hell, I just want to work with some cute dogs. Nope I’d have to mop the floor in the morning in the front room where the macaws were. Morning was their free roaming time so I got macaws that don’t like me biting my mop, trying to bite me, succeeding in biting me. Every day lol, I’d pet them and be nice but they have bolt cutters on their faces. Everytime she’d walk outside they would scream top of their lungs. 5 macaws all trying to out scream the other it was literally ear piercing from the other room. I’ve owned small parrots and they are chill but just thinking about macaws make my ears ring. My boss. Left them at the shop and had a house separate and I don’t blame her at all

Our budgies used to fly around our family room and unhook the curtains. Always comic. I'm sure that some people must take a double take....no, those birds are not robins. Lol

Can you train a Green-Cheek conure to do this my Bella got out one day I was literally up 24 hours on the back porch calling for her ringing her Bell calling her name about 5 a.m. I heard her chirp. I went downstairs and she was in the grass just yelling and screaming looking up at at our apartment she noticed me an instantly flew to me she was really scared and cold and would literally not leave my shoulder when I step out on my back porch to check on my plants she seems to want to come but I'm scared she will fly away again I feel it was luck that brought her back to me and I'm scared to chance it how did you know your birds would come back to you?

@mikeythemacaw Hi, I was wondering if you could help me please…. I am an experienced parrot keeper but had my 18 birds stolen 15years ago now. It has taken me this long to come to terms with it and be ready to get another one (I am thinking umbrella cockatoo but a large macaw would also be an option)…. I have started looking but am coming across some really unsavoury characters and I just don’t feel like they are people I can trust to be honest about the birds history etc. I am in Birmingham uk so was wondering whether you knew any reputable breeders in the uk or where I could go about finding them pls? I have been out of the loop so long I just don’t know where to begin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
