I was laughing, jamming, and scared the entire play, the weird sisters were the jamming part, all of the comments I read have mostly been about them dropping fire bars.

Incredible! And a minor, but important, detail I liked was the earthy thumps and thuds of the furniture and the doors. Everything was solid and believable as a castle. Top marks to the costumiers, too.

This whole production was incredible! From the acting to the lights sound and stage, it was all really high quality. I'm extremely grateful this was made available online and for free at that. Thanks to the numerous talented artists it takes to pull something like this off! You all deserve to be famous and very well paid!

The hell is Lady Macbeth's deal? How'd she go from a scary man eater to a terrified basket case so quickly?
@gauntel2301
@gauntel2301 4 года назад
She goes insane from the aftermath of the murder - her conscience can't handle it, and she loses sleep from re-enacting the murder while sleepwalking every single night.
@cd-rom8220
@cd-rom8220 4 года назад
She forces herself at the beginning to be more vicious. She pushes past her kindness and forces herself to be evil in order to be the encouraging factor Macbeth needed to accomplish the murder. Guilt of what she's done, tension from bottled up emotions and keeping appearances, worry about the decaying mental health of her husband, growing concern from having to kill more and more to protect their secret, fear of getting caught, it all crashed down on her like a tidal wave. Eventually, her walls eroded and she went vulnerable. She started hallucinating, losing herself in the sea of anxiety. She wasn't so much a scary man eater as she was playing a part, putting on a mask in order to be what Macbeth needed her to be. All the pain was still there, just hidden behind curtains. Slowly, it starts to break free until she's overcome by it.

@@cd-rom8220 well said. I think Shakespeare wants us to see ourselves in her to some extent, that every one of us could go down that dark path with just a few strides in that direction, rather than seeing her as some outlandish crazy beast.

The emotional portrayal of the Macbeths, now separated, was I think successfully carried over from the first half, with particular note on how the news of Lady Macbeth's death changes Macbeth (not evident in dumber productions). Most pleasingly was the inclusion of two key speeches (perversely omitted in other productions) of Lady Macduff (mrs-wren-against-the-owl) and Malcolm's dialogue with Macduff about how vicious and vile Kings tend to be. The strong theme of the play, that male valour is as much a myth as female cowardice, to the extent that the reality is more likely a reversal, is almost embedded in this worthy performance/production, but it does cut a few relevant speeches. In finishing, I would like to praise some of the acting, stagecraft, design and basically leaning-into-it that has made this the most satisfactory Macbeth for me since I first saw the play and was wowed by it.
