an M1 14" for less than a 15 with 16gb ram and 512gb memory, its only 8 grams heavier, better screen, more ports, better audio, comparable performance, doesn't throttle and will fit in your existing bags.

When playing y tube videos does it show a full screen and if not is it the same for the 16 inch pro? thanks

Bigger is better but at that price after the "necessary" upgrades, the 14" Pro seems better.

Ya the pros are overkill for most people today. But if you want a big screen Mac you had to pay a premium for that bigger display even though you didn't need the extra performance. Finally, mac users have a big screen option without paying more

i feel you but at the same time, i think apple is marketing the air as an ipad upgrade yk? an ipad pro 12.9 goes for $1099 if im not mistaken, and that is with 128gb and same ram. i feel like the air is just for those who dont want an ipad as they need to do actual work, but also dont need the performance of the pro’s. yeah in a perfect world i would love apple bumping up that 8 to 12 and 256 to 512 but i also know that would be too good for us🥵

I would accept if the baseline comes with 16gb ram OR 512ssd

Most casuals use their computer for literally just internet they don’t need 16GB

@@akapeegly6463 I actually agree with Dave and Marques. They’re marketing it for ppl who want a basic MacBook 15 inch at the cheapest price. And that person doesn’t particularly care about ram, but they do notice build and screen quality and those are incredible on macs

I know the 14 MacBook Pro is a beast. You are correct the display is amazing and the speakers out a laptop are so good. I dont find it heavy at all either.

I agree once you go 120hz or above 60 it really is hard to go back but if Apple wants to take gaming seriously they'll have to start putting higher refresh rates in all their products.

@@MatthewMoniz 100% agree. And windows laptops are putting high refresh screens in most but the cheapest machines now. I also think it applies to the phones, 60Hz in the non pro iphones is really miserly, when we have things like the pixel 7a at 90Hz. Apple may not see it as a priority, for example someone going from an iphone 14 to a 15 won't notice high refresh if they never had it. But as more android devices get high refresh at lower prices, it'll absolutely be something more and more switchers notice.

For what you listed the M1 Pro 14" seems like overkill. Battery life will be better with MacBook Air 15. But I'd go with whatever one you can get a better deal on

You're definitely not in the minority a lot of people will still prefer the 13 inch notebook due its size especially when travelling. But now that the weight is so light on the 15 i don't mind it for travelling since I can use the a bigger display

the 15” mba was the sweet spot for me. the 16” mbp feels too big-and heavy

Webcam on MacBook air 13 (M2) and MacBook Air 15 (M2) are both 1080p as shown in this video. You're thinking of MacBook Air M1 that's 720p.

Apple doesn't have a touchscreen in any of their laptops. Only iPads and iPhones.

Not sure where you're getting your RAM information from but MacBook Air 13 / 15 with M2 can only go up to 24GB. Also no one really needs more than 16GB of RAM on MacBook Air's. Apple's unified memory works VERY differently then traditional memory layouts. You can get away with a lot more with less ram.

As Samsung found out when they made their A5? phones better it meant a massive drop in sales on their Galaxy S20/S21 line. When you are competing to a small market, Macs sell less than 10% of all PCs, something like adding extra RAM and storage can have a catastrophic effect on profits. It would be a bad move. That is why every other premium ultrabook starts with 8GB/256GB as they all know about business. Obviously you as a consumer want something for nothing, but that is not how Apple makes money; most of their profits are from RAM and storage upgrades.

I know apple is well optimized (and it's a unified chip). and I know 24gb is the max. but having the same amount of ram as a laptop from a decade ago is ridiculous in my mind. imagine a 2013 laptop having the same amount of ram as a 2003 laptop. Apple recently tried to make a push for gaming in there keynote, saying developers can now "easily" port of games. good luck running recent AAA games on 8gb of ram (shared between graphics and cpu). that can never be upgraded. People are slamming NVIDIA for putting only 8gb of ram on there mid tier GPU for Planned obsolescence. Personally I feel like apple are doing the same thing here. and will play the "but it's not for professionals" card. For many this laptop is a 5 year investment. do you believe 8gb of ram will still be usable in 2028?

@@andyH_England Im in Australia. 24gb of ram and a 1tb 15inch macbook pro is $3500 aud. at that point apple have lost a sale, similar 15inch ultrabooks with 32gb of ram, amazing screens..... etc are less than $3000 (usually 2000-$2500 aud). I can not in good faith recommend this laptop to anyone who wants to hang onto it for 5 years (how is 8gb of ram in 2028 sound) I understand this move by apple is partly to force upgrades (and partly for planned obsolescence). It's a buisnses move. doesn't mean I can't call out apple on it though. I';m not asking for free shit. but at $3500 AUD for a workable amount of 24gb ram. I've lost interest myself, and wouldn't reccoomend it. a 2013 laptop using 512mb of ram from 2003 would not fly. I don't know why people are ok with 8gb in 2023 (2013 macbook retina came with 8gb of ram)

@@legendp2011 Having used Apple Silicon I am not returning to Intel so for me the extra cost is well worth it. In any case in the UK the MB Air M2 15-inch competes well with the rivals (Dell, Samsung and Lenovo) in the premium market (not cheaper ACER and ASUS models that are mid-range). Also Apple has to pay 10% import taxes and there is a VAT charge of 10% (at least). So a $3000 Mac is really $2500 plus taxes. Also the US dollar has risen 15% in the last two years versus the Australian dollar so Apple will have to grab that loss back.

I just wish they still made 15 inch MacBook Pro’s.
