You are such a resource for repairs. I love watching Louis Rossman as well. You two are true technicians instead of just being able to swap cards out of a desktop and/or changing and upgrading hard drives or ram like some other so-called techs that claim 30 years of experience. I find you to be intriguing as you go through your thought process and as you narrow the problem possibilities. Keep up the great work!

Hi Graham, fantastic video well done, as someone who's been spoiled by a nice microscope I'm in awe at the work you do without one. I know it's easy to become reliant on the thermal camera when you have it but sometimes the IPA method of finding shorts is still useful if the thermal camera helped you narrow down the general area but lacks the resolution to pinpoint the faulty component exactly. Keep up the good work

8:00 lazy like that sounds like something car mechanics do. They have a reason: it reduces the time spent on a job, and customers might complain that the mechanics caused a problem by touching something that wasn't the thing they were paid to fix.

Good work! Here's a suggestion, you can buy yourself an inexpensive ZnSe lens for lasers engravers I would suggest a F101.6 (focal length) and attache it to your FLIR to dramatically improve the image quality, it will allow you to see the actual components instead of a huge thermal blob you're seeing now.
@diesalweasel
@diesalweasel 2 года назад
Hi do you have a link my friend if possible
@beogeek
@beogeek 2 года назад
@@diesalweasel Seems like pasting a link isn't possible, go to eBay and search for ZnSe f101.6 if you go a lower focal point you will be getting a macro lens which will mean you will need to come very very close to the board in order for the image to come into focus. I personally have 2 lenses but I mostly use the f101.6.
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
Legend, I hadn't bookmarked the lens last time someone told me about it, cheers! Here's an example eBay listing that includes the f101.6 option: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363060096058
@beogeek
@beogeek 2 года назад
@@Adamant_IT You're most welcome :) if you do end up getting one, you don't need a fancy holder for it, you can hot glue it over your FLIR. Also, a point to notice with the FLIR is they have an internal battery that does eventually go bad, if you ever replace it get the Seek Thermal Compact Pro, it runs off of the internal phone battery and has much better image quality and I think they're around the same price.

Hi, I had problem with my Macbook pro A1502 which I believe the battery drained during sleep mode, its happened like twice before but it managed to turn on normally after battery charge or while on charge. It happened again yesterday and this time the charge indicator keeps red even charge for longer time and it wont turn on. I did try to reset SMC while charging, it did shown indicator turn green for few seconds after releasing the keys but it not running. I also did try to check the battery by removing the back cover and its not shown any fault in condition such as bulging. Please do help me before Im trying to change the battery since I cant think of something else. Theyre no warning about battery (before it happened) but I do believe the battery may also has an issue earlier since its getting so hot while on charging. Thanks in advance

@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
Damnit, I didn't bookmark it... I got a time from a comment somewhere for small laser lenses that were fairly inexpensive and basically acted as a macro lens for the Flir One, allowing it to focus at super short distances. Can't remember the details though 😩 - I'll keep an eye out.
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
Aha! BeoGeek called it out further down in the comments: ZnSe f101.6 - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363060096058 I don't know much about these though, I'm assuming you just have figure out how to place it over the stock lens. I have some ideas involving a bit of cardboard with a hole in it and this lens glued into the hole, so I can easily add/remove the extra lense as required. In any case, I've ordered one and will report back in a few weeks when it arrives!

Do you think the dodgy charger was the culprit for blowing those caps or the historic liquid damage?
@Rusty_Gold85
@Rusty_Gold85 2 года назад
Maybe LD . The Airs always seem to have Liquid ingress faults
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
It's hard to tell, with the amount of corrosion that this board has seen, it _has_ to have been Liquid Damage related, but at the same time, there was no corrosion at those caps. Maybe there was a lot of ripple on PP3v42 caused by corrosion, which was placing additional stress on the caps... Not sure.

Hi! I m beginning to repair video card. I found problem that have my gtx 980 but i have problem to desolder vram and mofset. I have tried with hot gun at 350° After 400° and After 480° with flux but i can t desolder It. Can you make a video ? How to desolder component(vram,mofset), which hot gun to use, which degrees to use and how desolder component if you have problem to desolder It. Br,Alessandro La Ragione
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
It depends on your hot air station. If you're using a hot air station where the blower is in the handle, it probably won't be strong enough for this kind of work. I would recommend a Quick 857dw+ or better, which has an air pump in the base station and delivers much more airflow, allowing it to move big parts like mosfets and BGA chips.

I do a lot of repairs; I would not be surprised if the prior technician was the cause of the secondary failure of the logic board, simply because he was lazy and did not complete the job. A true tech would have remove the board and clean the liquid stains preventing possible shorts.
@jaro6985
@jaro6985 2 года назад
How would the liquid stains cause a capacitor that was covered in glue to short out though? Possibly but unlikely.
@catriona_drummond

do not care the thermal camera, finger is the law!!!!!!
@Adamant_IT
@Adamant_IT 2 года назад
Finger is definitely the acid-test. But man, thermal cams make it soooo much faster to narrow down roughly where the fault is, and at much lower power levels. I used to do injection at like, 3-4amps. Here there was only 2.5amps, much more gentle on the mobo.
