mad cause you can do it cheaper but you have to carry 1 extra item? Would you complain if windows did the same cause it’s the same way with windows laptops 😎
Ima be honest if the day Apple makes the base model MacBook Air m3 with a 16 ram and 512ssd Under 1600 Then that’s the day their sales are gonna sky rocket in macbooks
The OS plays a large role in the speed and battery life. Their OS only needs to be made for apple and can therefore be highly lightweight compared to Windows where they need to implement way more compatabilities for a large variety of machines.
I work at Geek Squad, doing lots of warranty fulfillment, troubleshooting, and advice. Don't buy a Macbook unless your software is exclusive to Mac or you use Final Cut. Just my advice.
@@PeytonPoole-k9u Roblox was just an example that my son plays on my MacBook. He pointed out that the computer heats up after just 3 minutes of gaming time which is absolutely ridiculous.
its the software optimization and the fact they only have to optimize everything for one chip, that gives them the ability to make them better than the rest
Here's the issue the software is shit, it's all good optimising for your OS but optimising your chip for macOS that is dying on the developer front due to compatability issues if your not in an art or design field you'd be better served getting anything else.
x86 vs ARM cpu. ARM is what M2 is, it’s sleek, efficient, but specialized. X86 is a workhorse, it’s rough but can do it all. It’s the difference between a power drill and an excavator. Both make holes, but different kinds and different sizes
The new M2 is really fast for a RISC processor that uses small amounts of power and takes up very little space. But an intel processor of the same price range would absolutely mog it in every aspect. It’s perfect for a slim low power laptop with a battery that will last forever, or even put it in a phone with how big phones are getting. But it’s mediocre for desktop standard.
Yeah but thats why people buy macbooks to be able to do intensive work on the go. On battery macbooks out compete most laptops while also lasting twice as long.
@Tristan-ne1vz mac books only redeeming quality is you occasionaly don't need to bring a charger, in the specific circumstance you are planning on using it for precisely 6-8 hours.
@@howtocookdis4801 I think thats 90% of why you buy a laptop though. If you need to be glued to a wall then why not just work on a desktop. Macbook for me is the most productive machine because I can work anywhere at any time. Which is what I need a laptop for. For my workload (software development) mac works just as good (if not better) than windows. For most workloads other than gaming and 3d modeling that will be the case. I think only real downsides if u arent in those niche are repairabillity and price. But tbh there are very few portable laptops on the level of the macbook that are significantly cheaper. And if ur buying used macbook ur getting same quality for cheap price. Repairabillity is a non factor for me bc i never find myself with broken computers. Nice to have but not completely necessary
You can literally use the laptop all day without being tied to a wall plug. My windows laptop often dies every single day before my classes end. Its amazing that its so powerful but windows laptops are absolutely useless because they burn the battery in an hour actually fully using the laptop unlike a MacBook
Qualcomm elite x can acually compete with the M series chips since it is about there with performance and also is based on arm technology (same as apples) which means it doesnt need a lot of power to run
@@ilcarlino752 sadly to say, M2 wins out on performance for power to heats generation and power efficiency ratio to intel every time. I’m a PC and windows laptop user myself and so far no companies have put out a chip that’s more efficient than the M2 yet for the power it brings | Power in general though Intel and other CPU manufacturers win easily
i was confused at first but honestly yes. even if a software compatibility layer is super optimized and stuff im sure an app running on the native platform it was designed for still could be better (in some ways maybe the software layer could still do a good enough job though)
Depends on your use case realistically. If you're a digital creator , Yes. Video editing and Photo editing is better on Mac If you're an Engineer or Software Developer Windows is where to go. Engineers generally use ProCon which is a specific design software for engineers. Developers likely use local servers to test web APIs. Both those use cases are not supported for Mac
You used to be able to install windows on Macs, but I'm not so sure on these arm chips. Also, there are rumours that Microsoft is creating Windows for arm, which might be able to run on apple silicone. That's the exciting part about this, even if what you said is true, the success of Apple Silicone will undoubtedly be copied into more systems!
Right now almost no software is supported on M-chip. What software are you talking about? The most supported software is for Intel. Pre-2021 models. Even 2020 has only 1 Intel model.
The battery's a shit. Tell me otherwise. Last week, my classmate brought a brand new MacBook to the science class. We did an exam in Word (idk what it is called on MacBook). When it was break time, smoke started coming from it. Fortunately, it didn't explode, or, at least I think so, because the owner threw it out of the window.
Lenovo Slim 7i - 4070 - Intel i9-13900H - Pretty decent battery life - Super Thin for being a gaming laptop - Not loud at all (unless you put in this extreme turbo boost mode)
The fact that it’s quiet and does not burn my legs from overheating has me in its clutches forever!!! I have a 7 year old MacBook Air that I purchased brand new for college. And it’s still my every day driver laptop wise.
I think for the very basic user the MacBook Air is perfect. For anyone with a very specific or professional use case they definitely will need a very specific machine with very specific specs. The MBA is a sort of a “one size fits all who can afford it” kind of laptop
Post 2021 gaming laptops have skyrocketed in battery life my 2022 legion 5 pro gets a solid 6 hours on 1080p youtube at 70% And honestly who needs that 21 hour battery life by that time you'll find a charger 💀
Thats the thing though. Its based on settings which typically are limiting the power of your hardware. Apple laptops run at 100% capability and still get 10 hour battery life. If you're using a laptop for mobile work which is what MacBooks are for it just makes more sense. If you're doing software development or video editing on then a macbook will last significantly longer than any gaming laptop. While being faster on battery. I recently switched from a 2019 windows gaming machine to a macbook m1 pro. For light work, the battery life of the gaming laptop went from 4+ hours to 1 or 2 which was attrocious. The Macbook pro runs faster on battery and can handle intensive work for 6 hours without me even needing to think about charging.
@@Tristan-ne1vz multiple advancements in battery life for gaming laptops have been made post 2019, and for me my laptop multitasks pretty well on the 6000 series's igpu while still giving me insane performance when plugged in via the dgpu, admittedly I still worry about the battery sometimes when it dips below 20%, but by then I'll already be done with whatever I'm doing
xps 15, the graphics aren't insane but the cpu is on par with the m2, (rtx 4070) battery life is great, and its probably the best work computer to get if you don't like macOS and don't wanna pay several thousand dollars for the next 10 years of work
That's a fair point. There was a point where apple is over priced for the samey performance, but they're killing it right now. Also also, can't help but think that Microsoft shot themselves in the foot by making windows exclusively x86 when arm has been getting more and more powerful. Even as someone who probably wouldn't buy an Apple pc, I'm glad that they came here and challenged what a laptop can do : >
Yeah issue is apple have shot themselves in the foot worse with macOS and the way they've set it up for developers outside of art and design fields developers don't develop their software for mac because it's so much easier to develop for windows and Linux when less than 1% of users are on Mac it's not worth the nightmare of macOS the only reason art and design app developers do still develop for mac is most of their user base is there
@@hafizhperdanaARM offers more efficient power to watt ratio, that not any x86 chip could competes. basically the ARM is already there in your phone, perfect for portability while having reasonable performance right? the problem with windows is they're sucks at pushing devs to support ARM or even making the compatibility unlike Apple does.
Imma say that as an ex Apple hater, there was indeed reason to hate the MacBooks of 2019 but all those complaints mean nothing ever since the m series chips came out, it’s just been pleasant to use
Razer Intel Nvidia Acer and AMD: This man can't be serious💀. broski intel has the ultra series, Nvidia has the 4090, AMD has the RYZEN 9 7900X3D Processor and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX Graphics, and lastly razer has the razer blade 18 models i think i'll stick with them instead of the same thing every year.
Yes, you’re right, but gaming laptop are horrible, the battery lasts very little, to have the right performance you always have to carry around the cable with a lot of power supply as big as a brick. If you want to play, you either buy a console or buy a desktop computer.
Bro my Mac is ligit ass one off the worst computers I’ve ever owned like it was literally more worth it for me to break out my old school, Chromebook, then use this MacBook
@@howtocookdis4801That's a lie m3 chips are way faster than that i3 plus unplug that and use it on battery power and see how it performs against the macbook
but for what do you need such a great chip on a macbook? performance? trust me when i say this, my intel core i5 10th gen is enough for what apple has to offer on they're macbooks. and you can't even game on the macbook, so such a powerful chip isnt necessary for the macbook. And you are definitley false about why people buy the macbooks, its because of the brand, design and software that it comes with.
Catch up on recent macbook reviews. A lot of creators, software developers, etc take advantage of those chips. For the past few years, Macbook chips have demolished a lot of it's competition on geekbench scores for both single and multiscore performances (This is someone whose owned the early 2015 macbook pro, as well as now owning a 2022 Asus G14 6900hs w/ the 6800s w the RX 6800s gpu). The newer macbooks also come on top when performing in cinebench, all the while keeping its cpu temp cooler than its competition without needing to rely on a fan. This is because of the M1 chip's power efficiency, which allows the newer macbooks to run with needing less power to get to the same performance level. A lot of people's bias (mostly those who barely have any idea of how tech works) show when it comes to tech. A lot of people don't like Razer and call them shit, but they honestly have really good performance if people took the time to actually consume knowledge, be analytic, watch reviews, and put aside their biases. There's problems w every laptop. Most people find Razer's laptop keyboards uncomfy (so do I) because of their really shallow keytravel (similar to the Apple's butterly keys) which results to really hard typing and fatigue. Build quality on them is solid though (as well as the macbook), apart from the Razer's black variants suffering from paint chipping. Asus black versions of their G and M series also suffer from paint chipping. Asus has a great keyboard and trackpad (one of the best in the industry apart from the mac) due to its keytravel, accuracy, and the trackpads stability, meaning that it doesn't sink and tilt when pressed (which many windows laptop trackpads suffer with). The only problem w the ASUS Zephyrus trackpad is towards the bottom corners where it does sink a bit, but not as much as others. Only the macbook doesn't have this problem because it's the only laptop in the industry to use haptics for its trackpad instead of a mechanical one. The razer trackpads are pretty stable but unusually require a lot of force to register a touch. Razer laptops surprisingly cool decently though. the Zephyrus line is known to heat up a lot, and with this year and the 2022's design of the exhaust facing the screen.... let's just say it's not the best decision when running triple a titles for extended periods of time. Macbooks also have always been known to have great speakers in comparison to its PC counterparts and bright colorful displays (though historically lacking higher refresh rates). These new macbook pros though can reach 120hz due to Apple's ProMotion feature. People fault the Macbook for not being able to game when it's not MEANT to be a gaming laptop, it's aimed for productivity. Most gaming laptops have dedicated graphics cards, which are rare for laptops under the productivity category. People can't fault a badminton racket for not being able to fuction well against a tennis ball. I recommend the "Best Premium 14in Laptops in 2022" by Just Josh. I think it's a really good comparison between different laptops and their capabilities. Honestly, any updated comparison video will do from an actual tech reviewer that combines stats, real world usecases, and comparisons to not just other laptops, but as well as the laptops previous models to see where it improved and what got taken out.
The x86 architecture isnt as good as the ARM-based architecture thay a mac uses, but now that ARM architecture is coming to other laptops, which allows them to be even better now.
I actually agree with this as a hardcore windows user. In terms of efficiency Apple wins easily, however it is pretty much only good for creativity based workloads and not everyone needs a machine specifically for that. Conclusion? Apple is the best at what it is designed for, profesional work.
The question is. Are you going to use it for accounting purposes?. Excel is not good in mac. They're not that really good. And most accounting softwares wouldnt work in mac either. Just don't get mac... Coz I got one...
@@levi166yt im on Intel mac. And my problems with mac is not a problem with me anymore coz I use the parallels. And it's good. I'm not sure if the window softwares that runs on intel would work on M series. But in my Mac that runs intel, it works well. My printer also doesn't support the latest version of macos but they support the latest windows os. But luckily I have parallels. My printer is canon g2100.
Basically he is saying M2 is inspired by apple's phone chip which makes m2 more power efficient but it still can't compete with the raw power that intel generates + graphic cards on the windows pcs.
The problem with apple computers and laptops is that you may need to download software that can be downloaded on a non windows device. I know people who couldn’t do their university courses because they bought a macbook and by the way there were doing engineering.
You forgot about the Lenovo yoga pro 9i. Cheaper, 14 inch, 165hz display, i9 Ultra, rtx4070 mobile, 64gb ram, 1tb m.2 nvme, display delta e accuracy < 1, large trackpad, great camera, all amazing ports, quality keyboard, high quality frame. This beats any apple laptop in its price range or size range.
I just watched a short that said that the mac books cant run 3rd party games (steam games) and i watched another video saying that macbook applications are designed to work only with apple applications and not 3rd party applications meaning its slower on downloaded applications compared to the ones that come preinstalled.
Its more of a question of whether the application has native support to run on apple silicon and software. Most games don't, but all the software I use for work (software development) and video editing work on apple and they work better in many cases bc of the cpu.
To all of you guys saying you want 16gigs of memory…. 8 gigs on a MacBook is 16 on anywhere else because it’s UNIFIED memory, meaning any part of the laptop can access the memory immediately without having to go through the cpu
Best laptop I ever had was the Air M1, and it's after years of Dells, Sonys, Asus laptops. Not gonna lie, the change from linux user to OSX user was hard at start but after some months I don't want to go back.
Surface has already had very neech consumer market, especially outside the US. The only good thing that came out of the surface line is the introduction of arm in windows for mainstream market. But optimisation for windows for arm will take some time.
THESE CLOSE KINDED WINDOWS USERS NEED TO LEARN THAT MACS ARENT BUILT FOR GAMING THEY ARE BUILT FOR WORK AND PORTABILITY BECAUDE THWY DONT NEWD TO BE PLUGGED IN YO ACHIEVE MAX PIWER
I’ve had my ROG zephyrs g14 for a while now and I believe it basically offers everything the MacBook does. It has decent battery life with great performance and a solid build.
May be wrong, but how does it deal with intensive work loads on battery. The reason I chose apple is I couldn't find a windows computer that didn't power limit on battery mode to maintain reasonable battery life.
And then none of them can compete on battery life, Apple literally won in that department. (Except they charge 200$ for an SSD upgrade that would get you 2TBs but they only give you 500gb)
Im not against MacBooks, im against the MacBook air tho , also the new MacBook alternative is gonna be the new SD X Elite laptops , which if Qualcomm's claims are right (which they usually are , apple likes to lie the most in keynotes) we will see a direct alternative to MacBook in the efficiency to performance categories, but still if you want raw performance or your working in ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF DESIGN, don't get a MacBook
Real shit. I own a Mac and I don’t even think they really all that. I just liked it for the ecosystem that connects to my phone and the “clout” I thought it gave me. Overall Macs are good but windows still great as well. Don’t let people tell you otherwise
A lot of ppl complaining havent tried the new chips. The main reason its so much better is cuz they changed the architecture from the ones intel use which is the same one(albeit slightly optimized) theyve been using since the 1970s. They mainly changed from cisc to risc architectures with macbooks making them use much less energy and expending less heat.
In my opinion. The Razer Blade is a good alternative. Its got the performance, but Carter said it was too heavy and dies quickly. Getting the 14 inch solves the weight problem with 3.9 pounds and you can adjust battery life settings in Razer Synapse. I got about 9 hours out of it running simple browser games like Krunker or Roblox after changing some settings (with max screen brightness).
I mean I got a refurbished m2 air for £899 down to £824 with a discount code and it's a banging laptop. best computer I've ever had, battery lasts for days, way more powerful than I need etc
Only thing I hate about Macbook is their lack of upgradability. I understand that for the sake of design everything is soldered into motherboard like a phone. Also, they charge 400 dollars extra if I want 16/512 spec which is just plain ridiculous
