This video shows that it's 99% likely that 18gb ram is enough to export 8k video from FCP without using swap memory, which is what i'm having issues with on a 8gb machine and is going to murder the ssd in the long run. Thank you for this video.
Great test! I have an M2 MacBook Air that I'm going to give to my wife. I was on the fence about buying another MacBook Air or M3 MacBook Pro. I settled for the M3 Pro (base spec) MacBook Pro and am glad that I did. I do a ton of work within FCPX, so saving time rendering will be awesome! Sub and Like added.
I would expect an actively cooled M3 to perform significantly better than a passively cooled M2 in rendering, so looks like a RAM bottleneck to me. Makes sense why people are so upset with 8GB on a pro model.
